Our client is looking for looking for an Experienced Gardener with a real desire and interest in maintaining the extensive grounds of a 30 acre private property in Alresford, Hampshire to exacting standards. In particular an understanding of maintaining an ornamental and productive walled garden including a glasshouse is essential.
You will be working as part of a team undertaking garden maintenance tasks as required throughout the seasons however you will principally be responsible for the walled garden which provides vegetables and flowers to the house.
Tasks include:
- general garden maintenance
- grass cutting
- hedge cutting
- tending to herbaceous plants
- planting
- weeding
- harvesting of vegetables
- shrub pruning
- leaf collection
- lawn care
- assisting with fruit tree pruning and harvesting of apples and pears
You will be someone who is hard working, organised, enthusiastic, meticulous, have excellent communication skills with a ‘can do’ attitude and able to work as part of a gardening team. This is a rewarding role working for a young family who are keen to further develop their gardens and grounds.
This is a full time, live-out position working 5 days per week (with occasional weekend morning work on a rota basis during the summer months). You’ll have a real passion for gardening and the ability to carefully operate and care for machinery and tools. Your own transport is essential for commuting to work.

A fantastic new position has arisen for a part time, self-employed, enthusiastic and experienced grounds person/gardener working under the direction of the Garden Manager and her small team on a beautiful 200 acre Georgian estate near Winchester.
The family owned friendly estate comprises 100 acres of farmed land, historic ancient woodland, sweeping parkland and a two acre walled garden designed by one of the country’s leading RHS Gold Medal landscape designers.
The successful applicant will need excellent references and a hard working approach with great attention to detail. In return, the applicant will get the opportunity to be well remunerated and work with a friendly team, who are equally dedicated, in one of the most beautiful privately owned country estates in Hampshire that is maintained to the highest of standards.
A PA1/PA6 spray certificate and chainsaw licence would be preferable but training in both these areas can be offered if necessary. Typically, the role will involve mowing, hedge and topiary cutting, weeding, pruning, pond maintenance, leaf clearing, knowledge of garden machinery. The gardens are not open to the public but do have private charity garden tours during the summer months.
Above all, the successful candidate needs to be trustworthy, conscientious, wanting to work as part of a fantastic team, reliable, physically fit, self-motivated and have a great positive attitude. You must be somebody who can be relied upon to work on their own when the Garden Manager is not on site and the owners are away. A full UK driving licence is essential.

The owner is a trained horticulturist and keen gardener who works in the garden when time allows and will give overall direction for planning improvements and redevelopment of key areas whilst receptive to candidates own ideas and expertise. A listed barn on the property has recently been restored as the owner runs floristry workshops in it alongside her small cut flower and floristry business; she wishes to expand the range of garden courses offered and hopes that the chosen candidate can help support this.
Applications are sought from passionate and enthusiastic gardeners who wish to go the extra mile and take ownership of the garden and have pride in all the work they undertake. You will need a horticultural qualification, knowledge in the care of garden machinery, good plant identification skills and be skilled in pruning climbing roses, wisteria, wall trained fruit, standard fruit trees and soft fruit. A noteworthy part of the job involves producing fruit and vegetables for the house, as well as cutting flowers, so experience of this is essential.
As Sole Gardener, the role will entail general estate duties as well as gardening, so you must be willing and able to undertake typical handyman and estate duties such as clearing gutters, emptying the ash from the biomass boiler, helping with animals (donkeys, chickens and ducks), occasional car washing, airport runs and being responsible for the security of the property when the owners are away, as well as ensuring the property is kept tidy and presentable.
A full driving licence is essential as are qualities such as good communication skills, attention to detail and a strong work ethic.
