Junior/Assistant Gardener (Live Out) - EC5352

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Junior Gardener to join a talented Head Gardener on a stunning private garden in the New Forest, Hampshire.  The impressive estate gardens are being further improved at the hand of the Head Gardener, such that the successful applicant will have the rare opportunity to learn directly from a true plantsman, whilst assisting in the development of new and exciting garden projects.

This stunning Grade II listed private country house was designed by John Nash and includes two cottages, a gate house, a staff flat and a 5-acre formal garden.  The main residential buildings and associated gardens are nestled within 180-acres of parkland in the beautiful New Forest of South West England.  The village of Bramshaw is a highly sought-after location; close to Lyndhurst and the historic market town of Romsey.

The main garden comprises a cuttings garden, greenhouses (that are currently being renovated), a kitchen garden to supply the house with a small amount of produce, formal lawn areas, hedges, mature trees, mixed borders, a pool and tennis court.  New and ongoing projects will ensure the successful candidate’s interest and continued learning, under the guidance of the Head Gardener.

The requirement for assistance with the development of the gardens has resulted in a genuine and rare career opportunity for an enthusiastic Junior Gardener.  Suitable candidates will have some knowledge and a genuine interest in herbaceous plants, shrubs, basic pruning techniques, and the ability to identify common garden plants and weeds.  Spray certificates PA1 and PA6 would be beneficial but are not expected at this time.  Experience with common garden machinery is desired of applicants, i.e. strimmers, mowers, hedge cutters and leaf blowers.  Candidates should have a positive attitude towards their work and colleagues, be reliable, punctual and physically fit.  It is essential that applicants hold a full UK driving licence for commuting to and from work, as the estate is located rurally.  It is of paramount importance that candidates have a genuine enthusiasm for developing their knowledge and skills in horticulture, and therefore their standing within the industry.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join a large and impressive private estate at a time of significant development, and to improve your skills and knowledge under the guidance of a talented Head Gardener.
