Skilled Gardener (live out) - EC5280

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join the existing team of four on a stunning private estate in Hampshire.  This role would suit a qualified and experienced gardener with the initiative to manage their own garden areas as well as the ability to work within a team.

The beautiful 8-bedroom period property is set within a wider 40-acre estate in the Hampshire countryside.  The expansive areas of lawn, mature trees, a lake and ornamental areas are managed to an immaculate standard to the benefit of daytime visitors, overnight guests and the estate owners themselves.  The gardens comprise traditional features such as manicured lawns and borders, yew and box hedges, a one-acre walled garden which includes a productive kitchen garden, a small orchard, glasshouse, rose garden, fishing lake and surrounding wildflower meadow leading to woodland beyond.

Applicants for this position should hold academic horticultural qualifications and extensive experience of gardening on private estates.  The ability to work to a high degree of detail is essential, as is the willingness to provide guidance to the apprentice when the opportunity arises.  Applicants should hold experience of kitchen gardening as well as that of fruit tree management in order to provide cover in these areas when necessary.  Candidates should be keen to develop their skills further, and to share their existing knowledge with team members for the benefit of all involved.

Suitable applicants will hold certificates in spraying (PA1/PA6) and chainsaw operation competence and must be able to undertake routine machinery maintenance (strimmers and mowers) when required.  The ideal candidate will possess experience in each of the above areas as well as good written and verbal communication skills, a working knowledge and adherence to health and safety standards, and a valid full UK driving licence.  The position is full-time (Monday to Friday) with occasional weekend watering duties during periods of hot weather.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a committed team on a full-time basis, in an immaculate garden located in a beautiful part of rural Hampshire.

Sole Gardener - Live Out - EC4987 - This position has been filled

A very attractive opportunity has arisen for an experienced and knowledgeable gardener/horticulturist on a beautiful private family estate near Petersfield, Hampshire.  The estate is looking for a skilled Sole Gardener to take ownership, and to continue the development of, the stunning gardens on a permanent full-time basis.

With expansive views across the downs, the 40-acre estate includes 10-acres of formal gardens that are currently managed by a team of four part-time staff and the property owner herself (who manages the kitchen garden, primarily).  The gardens, designed by John Hill, have been extensively restored over the past six years, and as such, are in need of a knowledgeable and practical horticulturist to ensure the continued development and general upkeep.

The gardens are designed in the traditional English country style and include formal lawns, large herbaceous borders, a walled kitchen garden, ornamental ponds, an orchard, fruit garden, hedges and topiary, roses, and a glasshouse used for the propagation of cut flowers and vegetables for the house.  The property is surrounded by 30-acres of paddocks and woodland, the former of which benefits from part-time help in terms of management of sheep in particular.  The successful applicant should be willing to assist in the wider estate if necessary, as well as with other duties that may arise as part of the Sole Gardener’s remit.
