Job Description
Delivery of contracts in line with safety requirements, on time, budget and in conformance to specification and to the client’s satisfaction.
Take responsibility for on-site work & liaise closely with the contract manager to deliver landscape projects.
- Manage all contracts efficiently to ensure delivery on time and to specification whilst achieving at least the tendered margins
- Strong operational experience, particularly of hard landscape construction, being able to confidentially lead on construction matters.
- A good understanding of health & safety Lead the team to ensure that they deliver the contracted specification within the set timescales
- Ensure all required resources, vehicles, machinery and materials are on site by working closely with the responsible contract manager for the project
- Responsible for onsite health and safety
- Provide clear instructions and taking the initiative with the on-site team to push forward the job in line with programme
- Accurate recording of times and materials used on site
- Deliver all works to a high quality
- Liaising with client/customers in a courteous and professional manner
- Delivery of all operational responsibilities in line with the company's policy and procedures
Key Skills:
Highly experienced Landscape Foreman ideally having worked within a landscape construction environment
- Problem solving and decision-making skills
- A good understanding of hard and soft landscape construction
- Ideally hold CSCS and plant operator tickets such as NPORS/LANTRA/CPCS (but if not training will be provided)
- Experienced in managing & motivating teams on site
General:
This is a hands-on position working with a team of 2 to 4 employees at any one time. The company works in a close geographical area travelling no more than 90 minutes and usually under 60 minutes.
This role entails being the representative of the company on the ground and will need to conduct yourself that portrays the business in accordance with its values and approach at all times.

This is a sole position, offered with a generous salary and a refurbished three-bedroom gate house. The role would suit candidates with demonstrable experience in all areas of private estate gardening/horticulture and estate maintenance.
This majestic Georgian home and surrounding estate comprises three separate dwellings, barns and stables, a workshop, swimming pool, bluebell woodland, a tennis court, excellent equestrian facilities including a manege, and a large garden made up of formal and informal areas, all surrounded by expansive lawns, paddocks and mature trees.
The garden areas include a kitchen garden, herbaceous and ornamental borders, a pond, gravel driveways, an orchard and a glasshouse, so applicants for this position must have good plant knowledge including that of propagation, fruit and vegetable production and the growing of indoor plants for the house. Although the more technical aspects of this role may be horticulturally-focussed, the position will involve hands-on management of the entire estate and as such, applicants must be multi-skilled with demonstrable experience in the management of paddocks, woodland and general estate DIY.
Applicants must have good plant identification skills, excellent attention to detail and a methodological approach to their work. Demonstrable experience in the above areas is essential, as is competency in the operation and basic farm and garden machinery; ride-on and pedestrian mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers, blowers, chainsaws etc. Spraying qualifications (PA1/PA6) and chainsaw certification are required for this position, as is a full UK driving licence. Applicants must be tidy in their work, presentable, positive in attitude and possess a working understanding of the considerations and sensitivities required of permanent live-in employees on private estates.
Good physical fitness and an ability to undertake heavy lifting when necessary is essential, as is an understanding of country environments, preferably with experience around animals and of horses in particular.
A refurbished three-bedroom cottage is provided with this position - rent, Council Tax and WiFi included). Payment of bills (electricity, water etc.) will be the responsibility of the occupant. Due to the nature of the estate, this position is unsuitable for candidates who have dependent children, and those without pets are preferred.

A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified gardener to play a key role in a beautiful private garden, designed by Arne Maynard. The renowned garden designer continues to work with the property owners with a view to creating a stunning and unique garden. This opportunity would suit a keen hands-on horticulturist with demonstrable experience in a similar role in a private estate garden.
The property encompasses 40-acres in total, with formal garden areas comprising a large orchard, kitchen garden, yew topiary, parterres, pleached beech trees, a large pond with water features, expansive lawns, mature trees and mixed/herbaceous borders throughout.
The successful applicant will join an existing small garden team and will be jointly responsible for maintaining the formal garden areas whilst ensuring implementation of new designs, alongside the garden team, to a high standard. The opportunity to assist with maintenance of the wider estate exists where necessary, which provides variation to the work and the opportunity to learn new skills.
Applicants should possess an academic horticultural qualification; ideally at RHS level 2 or above, spray certificates (PA1/PA6) and/or extensive hands-on experience in large private gardens. The ideal candidate will have good technical gardening knowledge including species-specific pruning techniques, knowledge of seasonal garden management considerations, good plant identification skills, competence with a range of garden tools and machinery, and good physical fitness.
The successful candidate will have a keen eye for detail, will work to a consistently high standard and will be self-motivated whilst being able to adopt a flexible approach to their work. The ability to undertake basic machinery maintenance would be beneficial but is not essential.
A full UK driving licence and your own transport are required in order to commute to and from work as the property is located rurally.
