Sole Gardener - EC3455
A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced and talented Sole Gardener in the New Forest, Hampshire. This stunning Grade II listed private country house was designed by John Nash and includes two cottages, a gate house, a staff flat and 5-acre garden. The main residential buildings and associated gardens are nestled within 180 acres of parkland in the beautiful New Forest in south west England. The village of Bramshaw is a highly sought after location; close to Lyndhurst and the historic market town of Romsey.
The newly acquired property is now under ownership of a young and friendly family of four who are looking to bring the garden back to its full potential. The main garden comprises of a cuttings garden, greenhouses that need attention/renovation, a vegetable garden to supply the house with a small amount of produce, formal lawn areas, hedges, mature trees, mixed borders, a pool and tennis court. Staff currently working on the estate include a house manager, a chef, and a handyman who manages the mowing, hedge cutting and basic machinery maintenance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the routine maintenance, restoration and ongoing development of the garden on a permanent basis. Candidates will ideally hold a recognised academic horticultural qualification, extensive horticultural knowledge and gardening experience; ideally in a comparable Sole Gardener role. Applicants should have good physical fitness, excellent practical horticultural skills and experience of small scale fruit and vegetable production. An eye for garden design in terms of plant use and associated limitations will be necessary, as will the willingness to take ownership of the garden theme (of which you will play a key role) and its continuing development and implementation.
The client is looking for a friendly, positive and enthusiastic person to be part of the estate on a long- term basis. As the property is in a rural location, a full driving licence and your own transport are essential.
This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of a small friendly team on a large and historically significant private estate, in a beautiful part of the country, for friendly and generous owners.
