Sole/Experienced Gardener - Live In - EC3683
A superb opportunity has arisen for a passionate and enthusiastic Sole/Experienced Gardener to enhance and maintain a 2 acre garden surrounded by 35 acres of fields and 180 acres of woodland. The garden consists of lawns, an orchard, cutting garden, working kitchen garden with heated greenhouse, pool garden, herbaceous borders, pleached hedges and a service area with a polytunnel and a cold greenhouse. The garden will open for the first time this year under the NGS scheme and provides an opportunity for the chosen candidate to play an integral role further remodelling and development of the garden.
The owner is a trained horticulturist and keen gardener who works in the garden when time allows and will give overall direction for planning improvements and redevelopment of key areas whilst receptive to candidates own ideas and expertise. A listed barn on the property has recently been restored as the owner runs floristry workshops in it alongside her small cut flower and floristry business; she wishes to expand the range of garden courses offered and hopes that the chosen candidate can help support this.
Applications are sought from passionate and enthusiastic gardeners who wish to go the extra mile and take ownership of the garden and have pride in all the work they undertake. You will need a horticultural qualification, knowledge in the care of garden machinery, good plant identification skills and be skilled in pruning climbing roses, wisteria, wall trained fruit, standard fruit trees and soft fruit. A noteworthy part of the job involves producing fruit and vegetables for the house, as well as cutting flowers, so experience of this is essential.
As Sole Gardener, the role will entail general estate duties as well as gardening, so you must be willing and able to undertake typical handyman and estate duties such as clearing gutters, emptying the ash from the biomass boiler, helping with animals (donkeys, chickens and ducks), occasional car washing, airport runs and being responsible for the security of the property when the owners are away, as well as ensuring the property is kept tidy and presentable.
A full driving licence is essential as are qualities such as good communication skills, attention to detail and a strong work ethic.

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an experienced and talented Sole Gardener in the New Forest, Hampshire. This stunning Grade II listed private country house was designed by John Nash and includes two cottages, a gate house, a staff flat and 5-acre garden. The newly acquired property is now under ownership of a young and friendly family of four who are looking to bring the garden back to its full potential. The main garden comprises of a cuttings garden, greenhouses that need attention/renovation, a vegetable garden to supply the house with a small amount of produce, formal lawn areas, hedges, mature trees, mixed borders, a pool and tennis court. Staff currently working on the estate include a house manager, a chef, and a handyman who manages the mowing, hedge cutting and basic machinery maintenance.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the routine maintenance, restoration and ongoing development of the garden on a permanent basis. Candidates will ideally hold a recognised academic horticultural qualification, extensive horticultural knowledge and gardening experience; ideally in a comparable Sole Gardener role. Applicants should have good physical fitness, excellent practical horticultural skills and experience of small scale fruit and vegetable production. An eye for garden design in terms of plant use and associated limitations will be necessary, as will the willingness to take ownership of the garden theme (of which you will play a key role) and its continuing development and implementation.

Part Time Estate Worker/Gardener - EC3435
A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a part time Estate Worker/Gardener to manage the grounds of a 50 acre family home on the West Sussex/Hampshire border that is situated within the South Downs National Park.
The grounds contain pasture, woodland and garden area that all require aspects of Estate Maintenance to include lawn mowing, strimming, leaf collection, sweeping/tidying, spraying, minor tree works, preparing firewood, gutter clearance, pruning, field harrowing/topping, fence and swimming pool maintenance.
Applicants will ideally have basic knowledge of gardening but more importantly proven hands on experience undertaking estate maintenance duties with the ability to work unsupervised and plan ahead their work loads. In addition you will be responsible for the property if the owners are away for extended periods. You must be willing to get involved with all estate duties and have a flexible attitude to whatever tasks need completing.
Key skills for this role are the ability to use a range of estate machinery such as tractors, topper, harrow, chainsaw and garden machinery with the capability of undertaking regular machinery maintenance so that it is always in good condition and a serviceable state. PA1/PA6 and chainsaw certificates would also be an advantage as would a full clean driving licence and own transport.
