The Construction Division has experience in constructing landscapes from the smallest of roof terraces to the most expensive and luxurious of properties. They specialise, in particular, in the implementation of high-quality, bespoke landscape schemes, including bespoke water features, sculptures and intricate stonework. As the demand for maintenance services have increased they now seek a Maintenance Manager to join their team, and to lead this division.

Duties:

We seek an experienced Maintenance Manager, reporting directly to the Director. You will be responsible for the maintenance side of the company, working alongside the Director this varied role will involve coordinating the company’s ongoing & new maintenance contracts. The main responsibility would be to ensure that high-quality garden maintenance and soft landscaping is carried out and delivered to the client’s requirements. As well as undertaking large and small scale planting, turfing and plant procurement. This position will require candidates that have excellent organisation and client liaison skills.

- Up-to-date working knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in garden maintenance operations with a sound knowledge of horticultural practices (planting, pruning, fertilising, etc), growth characteristics and identification of a wide variety of plants.

- A confident managing staff able to provide a clear direction and inspire those around you, promptly and efficiently addressing personnel issues and training and development needs. Demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and create value not only for self but for others.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

The exterior technician supervisor will work closely with Operations Manager in motivating and driving team to deliver inspirational levels of service to the customers. Visit and manage all plant displays on allocated rounds on the days set by the service manager.  To include watering, dusting, cleaning, pest control, straightening, trimming, tidying surface dressing and replacing when required.  Also carry out reasonable request by the client.

-Learn and understand the habits and the different light, water and feed requirements for each species of plant.

-Learn names of all plants used and discuss confidently with clients.

-Cover other technician’s rounds when required.

-Build and maintain customer relationships with a cheerful and friendly attitude.

-Introduce yourself to all new clients.

-Assist the Nursery Manager by ensuring that the technicians keep the plant area tidy and clean.

-Monitor teams vans to ensure that they are kept very clean and tidy inside and out.

This is an excellent new opportunity for an experienced gardener / groundsperson to join the gardens team on a high-end static site in central London, on a permanent full-time employed basis.  The position will suit candidates with gardening experience and an academic horticultural qualification.

The site covers 11-acres and includes a variety of historic, majestic buildings. The grounds within comprise several different gardens and include features such as fine lawns, mixed and herbaceous beds and borders, a kitchen garden, fountains, flower borders, trees (including 26 mature London plane), shrubs and planted pots.

The successful candidate will primarily be responsible for maintaining the ornamental lawns but will also join the team in general gardening duties throughout the year.  It is essential the candidate is highly motivated, with a ‘can-do’ attitude and is able to work unsupervised.

Responsibilities of the postholder will include:

-Maintenance of the grounds using pedestrian and ride on mowers

-Renovation of grass areas by applying fertilisers, scarifying and aerating and other spring and autumn lawncare activities

-Irrigation of lawns using portable sprinklers and automated systems

-Edging and strimming

-Leaf clearance in the autumn/winter

-Weed spraying

-General gardening duties including hand weeding, pruning, digging, planting and watering plants

-Helping receive deliveries, which involves manual handling of bags up to 25kg

Applicants must have a minimum Level 2 horticultural and/or lawncare/groundsmanship qualification, spray certificates (PA1 and PA6), a valid full driving licence.  Applicants should have 2 years’ minimum experience of greenkeeping or a horticultural background and experience of caring for amenity lawns and/or playing surfaces.  Previous experience of using a wide range of turf care equipment is desired, e.g., mower tractors, cylinder and rotary mowers, and a wide range of turf renovation equipment, as well as hedge cutters, strimmers and similar.  Previous experience in grounds maintenance, ideally in an amenity landscape would be beneficial, and/or experience working in a high-profile public or private garden.

The site is a commercial development in Shepherd’s Bush with large grass areas, to be cut with both pedestrian and ride on mowers.  There are two courtyard gardens to maintain, both of which are planted with various trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants.  The main boulevard area consists of grass, hedging and ornamental planting, and seasonal bulbs with an automatic irrigation system.  There are several planters throughout the site planted with a range of both perennial and evergreen plants.

There is also a polytunnel to propagate cuttings taken from site for the purpose of growing-on and replacement where required.  In line with this company’s reputation and quality of staff, all works will be carried out to a very high standard.

The following will be expected of the successful candidate:

-Routine maintenance of a newly establishing high density planting schemes, to a high standard.

-Working to contractual procedures to ensure compliance with maintenance guidelines.

-Demonstrate a high level of detail and motivation with a strong work ethic and an ability to work well as part of a team.

Applicants will ideally possess the following:

-Horticultural knowledge

-Excellent practical skills in all areas of garden maintenance including the use of petrol-powered garden machinery

A CSCS Card and PA1/PA6 spraying licence are desirable, though are not essential as training can be provided if necessary.
