Job Brief

The ideal candidate should have a real drive and desire to deliver exceptional quality garden (maintenance focused) services to high-end residential houses. The role will involve client management and supervision of a horticulturalist that works alongside you. A hand’s on and joyful attitude is required to fit into the company culture and a thirst for knowledge to continue progressing within the role.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Confident with plant health and cross contamination measures
  • Confident with all areas of shaping and pruning (with plant health as the main priority)
  • Understanding of pests and diseases with preventative and treatment methods being ecofriendly (we are environmentally conscious in everything we do, this is at the core of our ethos)
  • A strong knowledge of tools - we use a wide range of electric power tools everyday
  • (mowers, blowers, strimmers, hedge cutters) - as well as hand tools and other equipment - and how to use them effectively
  • Strong delegation skills and the ability to follow-up with the horticulturalist you are working with.
You will need:
  • Be a people person - personable, well-mannered and presentable. This is particularly important as they deal with high end clients
  • Full and clean UK driving licence and confident in driving electric vehicles around London roads
  • Have a strong horticultural knowledge and plant base and ideally at least 2-5 years experience working in high end residential gardens
  • Horticultural qualification(s)
  • Be physically fit and able to carry out a demanding and fast paced role 5 days a week
  • Be able to work on your own initiative both in a team and alone
  • Be flexible with work hours and pitching in with other tasks, when required - to get the job done
  • Be focused, hardworking and swift when on the job
  • Have excellent time management and organisational skills - as a guide they can maintain up-to 5 gardens per day
  • Tidy and considerate (side access is not always available so we often go through people’s homes)
  • Excellent communication skills - client management and constant communication with the management team is key to the success of the role.
  • Good garden management skills and the ability to plan ahead across the gardening year.
  • The ability to support the management team to ensure that your gardens look the best and that your clients receive the best possible levels of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Horticulture Care: Oversee all garden maintenance tasks throughout the year, including planting, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, pest control and irrigation management. Issuing monthly maintenance tasks for the teams and checking in on the teams to ensure the correct horticultural care is being carried out.
  • Quality Control: Regularly inspect gardens/sites to ensure maintenance standards are met. Implement improvements as necessary to enhance garden aesthetics and health. Careful monitoring of irrigation systems, including planning and overseeing the dormant season shutdown and spring start up programmers.
  • Health & Safety compliance: Ensure all teams comply with health and safety regulations. Provide training and enforce safety protocols among the teams.
  • Equipment Management: Oversee the maintenance of gardening tools and equipment. Ensure all equipment is in good working order with regular maintenance service checks. Work with the Team Leaders to ensure all operatives are fully equipped each day with the necessary tools, equipment, and materials to complete required tasks. Ensure vehicles assigned to the Maintenance Teams are kept in good working order every week.
You will need:
  • Excellent horticultural knowledge with at least 5 + years’ experience in garden maintenance, with at least 2 years' supervisory or managerial role.

Ensuring superb quality in terms of plant / tree health whilst on site is key to realising the garden vision.

Responsibilities include:
  • Reading and actioning site design plans to ensure the horticultural elements are delivered as prescribed
  • Managing landscaping staff on site
  • Reporting to the Contracts Manager and Contracts Director with proven ability to deliver on business objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Liaising and communicating with all external stakeholders whilst sensitively managing those relationships
  • Maintaining and managing all horticultural elements on site to ensure sustained good health
  • Turfing and its maintenance
  • Tree planting - working alongside specialists where required

Responsibilities include:

Day to day responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

Horticulture:
  • All aspects of horticulture; specialised and more general
  • All aspects of lawn care
  • Chemical applications and record keeping (PA1 & PA6 preferable but not essential) – subject to training and supervision as required.
  • Ground clearance and seasonal work
  • Sweeping and maintenance of hard surfaces / furniture within the gardens
  • Tending to beds, borders, and containers
  • Specialised pruning and trimming
  • Maintenance / cleaning of water features and day to day maintenance of irrigation systems
  • Safe operation of machinery subject to training

Our client is an established company operating from West London specialising in the design and construction of bespoke residential gardens. They have won a number of industry awards for their work and unique designs which often incorporate specialist materials and features requiring the highest standard of workmanship. They currently have a vacancy for a career driven and passionate Senior Horticulturalist to be part of their successful and progressive company.

Job Description:

The person appointed will be working within a small team of 2-3 working on individual projects reporting to maintenance manager. The successful candidate will be assisting in high end domestic garden maintenance.

  • General ground care, use of strimmer’s/mowers/hedge cutters
  • Maintaining beds and boarders
  • Weeding
  • Mulching
  • Planting
  • Pruning
  • Communicate with clients
  • Be aware of health & safety on site
Key Skills:

Candidates must have a dedicated and positive attitude to work with the ability to work in a team but also supervise where needed. The successful candidate will have a keenness to learn and have experience in operating garden machinery with an eye for detail. Normal hours of work will be 07:30-16:30 with overtime, salary and level of position will be dependent on previous garden maintenance knowledge and experience.

Candidates must hold a full drivers licence for this position
