The company is a very well established and historic cremation authority.  The company’s principal activities are carrying out cremations and providing memorials at its crematoria.  The company owns and operates crematoria across London, Surrey, Oxfordshire and Kent.

Job Description:

The Regional Crematorium Manager will report to the Managing Director and will be responsible for crematorium site managers (currently 4-employees) as well as third-party contractors and suppliers.  Indirectly, all employees aside from the Head Office teams and Executive Management will report to the postholder, i.e. Gardeners, Cremators, Administrators, Maintenance etc.  The post will be based at the North West London Head Office and will require frequent travel (at least once a month) to all other sites.

The Regional Crematorium Manager will be a key figure in the organisation, responsible for shaping the future of the Company.  As Regional Crematorium Manager, you would be responsible for service delivery across the organisation, ensuring delivery of exceptional quality services to our customers.  The Regional Crematorium Manager has full management responsibility for overseeing all staff, budgets, health and safety practices and operations. 

Key Accountabilities and Outputs:
  • Work closely with each Site Manager to ensure every Crematorium is being led and managed effectively.
  • Improve productivity, quality and efficiencies across the business.
  • Ensure best practice is applied consistently across the Company.
  • Engender a culture of mutual support and respect and working together as a management team.
  • Ensure appropriate procedures are in place and regularly reviewed.
  • Prepare, manage and control numerous budgets.
  • Drive and deliver a health and safety improvement plan for the Company. Provide competent advice and technical guidance where necessary.
  • Work closely with the Crematorium Managers to ensure that equipment is inspected and serviced in line with environmental legislation.
Expected experience, skills and competences include:
  • Ideally degree educated or equivalent.
  • Current practical knowledge of health and safety and previous experience of managing Health and Safety.
  • ISOH or NEBOSH qualification.
  • Proven Regional Management (or equivalent role) experience.
  • Strong experience of leading and managing employees remotely.
  • Good knowledge of different business functions.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal, and the ability to quickly build a rapport with a wide range of people.
  • Highly organised and proactive.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Strong business acumen, understanding priorities and functional requirements.
  • Excellent IT skills with a high level of accuracy and strong attention to detail.

Job Description:

To be responsible for the daily completion of all specified projects within your area of responsibility. To efficiently manage your co-workers within The Company whilst maintaining the highest standards and working within a programmed timescale. To liaise with the H&S Coordinator, Team Manager & Directors to ensure that all works are delivered to the customers’ expectations.  The Team Leader will be responsible for implementing Company operations after consultation and instruction from the Team Manager & H&S Coordinator. This will include ensuring works are planned and executed in a manner compliant with company H&S policy and legislation.  You will be expected to demonstrate good working practices and supervise your co-workers.

This will be a hands-on role, so the successful candidate will need groundwork skills and be experienced in the use of petrol cut-off saws and hydraulic breakers.

TEAM LEADER KEY ACTIVITES:
  • Assist the Team Manager in planning and organising each job, ensuring that sufficient resources and materials are available. Also ensures that the job is completed in the most time-efficient manner
  • Assist the Office Manager in completing incident/accident reports ensuring all information is recorded and corrective action followed through
  • Participation in The Company’s quality assurance, environmental standards and procedures
  • Inform the Team Manager & H&S Coordinator where appropriate, take corrective action on mechanical defects or breakdown of equipment
  • Assist the H&S Coordinator in ensuring the correct PPE is worn on all projects
  • Completes necessary paperwork including time sheets, check sheets and site inspections
  • Liaise with the Team Manager to ensure that company assets and resources are used in the most economical manner
  • Assisting the Team Manager in monitoring Company/hired plant, equipment and machinery
  • Work irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls when required
  • Report to the Team Manager on a daily basis

Main Duties and Responsibilities

As the Indoor Plant Maintenance Gardener you will be caring for around 700 indoor plants spread across 8 floors including meeting rooms, communal spaces, the main reception and restaurant areas.

Maintaining interior planting displays to a high standard, this will include:

  • Watering all plant displays across 8 floors (not including desk plants)Identifying and treating pests promptly, and organically
  • Feeding as required
  • Pruning and tidying plants to maintain good plant health, ensuring all plants look their best at all times
  • Replacing and repotting plants as and when necessary and liaising with our staff to ensure new plants are supplied
  • Making sure all work areas are left clean, tidy and ensuring maintenance work doesn’t interfere with staff activity.
  • Friendly communication with staff on site.
  • Reporting weekly any issues arising or concerns about planting.
  • Carrying out any other reasonable duties as required by us, and responding to any immediate issues raised by the client on site.
  • Some administration including email correspondence with the client

The unique 2-acre private garden is undergoing extensive redevelopment and is now nearing completion.  The project has so far included the laying of 500 square metres of lawn, planting of shrub beds, climbing plants, seasonal bedding, a green wall, water feature and irrigation system, as well as a number of newly planted trees, of which some are up to 10 metres in height.  The garden now includes a glasshouse, a kitchen garden, hedges, herbaceous borders and ornamental planting throughout.

The successful candidate will be expected to assist in maintaining the grounds to a high standard under direction of the Senior Gardener and to provide some guidance to less experienced team members where appropriate.  Applicants should hold an academic horticultural qualification and have a good understanding of horticulture and seasonal garden maintenance/management, excellent practical skills including the use of petrol-powered machinery, and ideally, PA1/PA6 spray certificates and a CSCS card.  Applicants with experience in indoor plant management will be at a distinct advantage.

Candidates must prove they are eligible to work in the UK.  Applicants must have no criminal record as strict security checks will be undertaken prior to employment.  No driving licence is required for this role.  A 6-month probationary period will apply to the successful candidate from the date of commencement in the role.
