Department

The Role
As Head Gardener you will lead a team of eight, including one seasonal worker and one apprentice. You will work closely with the Grounds Manager and the rest of the team. You will work Monday to Friday, 39 hours a week, over five days with regular weekend work required.
This is a fixed term role; the ideal candidate will ideally be available for approximately 14 months.Typical duties will include:
- To be responsible for, and develop, specific areas of the Club gardens.
- To organise and ensure the smooth running of the Gardens team and to chair and attend meetings in this capacity as required.
- To supervise the Gardens team on a day-to-day basis.
- To train members of the team in specific skills and new practises relevant to their duties.
- To undertake all horticultural duties to ensure that the Club gardens are maintained and developed to a high standard as directed by the Grounds Manager.
- To support the department as a whole by providing assistance in all other areas in which the department is involved.

The Role
As the Senior Gardener you will work a 39-hour week (plus compulsory 1 in 3 weekends overtime). You will work closely with the Head Gardener and the Grounds Manager on a daily basis to help lead and organise the gardens team.
This is a fixed term maternity cover role and the contract will last approximately 14 months. Start date TBC but the successful candidate will ideally be available to start working from the end of May/mid-June.
Typical duties will include:
- Deputising for the Head Gardener and attending meetings when required.
- Allocating duties to the team of Gardeners.
- To place orders and managing budgets.
- To manage the IPM systems and biological controls.
- To ensure all Gardeners are appropriately trained and carry out all duties in line with the Club’s Health & Safety Policy.
- To provide horticultural knowledge and guidance to the team of Gardeners.
- To undertake all horticultural duties to ensure that the Club gardens are maintained and developed to a high standard.
Our Ideal Candidate
Candidates will be passionate and qualified horticulturalists (minimum RHS Level 2, PA1 and PA6 Spraying Qualifications) coupled with an extensive plant knowledge. Previous experience of supervising teams and managing budgets would be advantageous. A sound knowledge of computers and IT systems is also required.

Our client based in Central London are seeking an Assistant Gardener to manage and inspire their horticultural team to ensure the delivery of experiences that are representative of Covent Garden as a world class destination. Job Title: Garden Centre Manager, Shop and Plant Area Management positions

You will lead and inspire the team in achieving all deliverables, whilst ensuring an exceptional high standard of customer care which is expected for a Hillier Garden Centre.
Must haves:
-Minimum of 3 years proven managerial experience in quality retail or plant areas preferably within garden centres
-Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
-Exceptional attention to detail and forward-thinking ethos
-Demonstrate a professional, enthusiastic and flexible approach
-Able to promote excellent team work to achieve exceptional customer experience
-Demonstrate strong people management skills
-Able to be responsive to challenges and demonstrate a ‘can do’ approach
-Knowledgeable in maintaining and monitoring Health and Safety on site
-Able to work with energy, pace and passion
-Efficient organisational and prioritisation skills
