Skilled Gardener

A new vacancy has arisen on a spectacular private estate near High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire for a Skilled Gardener.  This role will suit an all-rounded horticulturist with drive to utilise their horticultural knowledge and experience on a full time and permanent basis.

The majestic eighteenth-century house is surrounded by 80 acres of land including parkland and paddocks. The main gardens consist of various terraces with different planting schemes, formal bedding, rose borders surrounding the house and a walled kitchen garden with raised beds to grow a variety of fruit and vegetables as well as provides shelter to an area that exemplifies ornamental gardening through each of the four seasons.  Great expanses of lawn, mature and young trees, lavender pathways, and ornamental planting all highlight the traditional English landscape.

The skilled gardener will work alongside a groundsman to care for the garden with great attention to detail. Outside contractors assist with the parkland and paddocks. Suitable candidates for this role will ideally hold a horticultural qualification and / or practical experience in private estate gardens.  The focus of this role is fine horticulture, so excellent plant identification skills are essential in addition to a thorough understanding the seasons.

Applicants should be flexible, energetic and cooperative in nature with a positive and friendly outlook.  The owners try to be organic as possible in the garden, though chemicals are used in some areas and therefore some experience of chemical-free gardening methodologies would be helpful as well as spray certificates would be an advantage. Chainsaw certificates would be a plus or the willingness to acquire as the owners would be happy to support the training. Good physical fitness and an eye for detail are required, with an ability to work well within a team as well as alone where necessary.

The role is offered with a competitive salary and a recently refurbished 2 bedroom / 2 bathroom cottage with council tax and utility bills covered by the employer.

This is a fabulous opportunity for a skilled horticulturist to join a stunning and historic estate, and to work for genuinely warm and welcoming employers. The role is also open to a couple where the other position would be either to assist on the garden or help with the animals on site.
