Job Description
You will be responsible for visiting multiple clients each day and maintaining their existing plant displays to a high standard, as well as installing new displays. This is a responsible position as you will need to work on your own initiative and will be representing the company to the client. You will also need a keen eye for design and trends.
Duties
- Visiting client’s sites on a regular basis.
- Ensuring planting schemes are kept to a high standard

Key Requirements

The Gardens Manager will propose and implement weekly, monthly and annual programmes of work to include progressively raising standards with effective maintenance of all gardens and open spaces on the estate. The candidate will provide their horticultural expertise and will be expected to plan and budget for best value whilst achieving the objectives set out within the programmes of work. They will manage the administration of all garden task related operations, ensuring the professional maintenance of all digital tree, plant and financial records. Working closely with their direct manager and the gardens administration team, the successful candidate will make proposals where there is a need to consult outside of agreed authority. The successful candidate will be responsible for the direct management, safety, personal development and motivation of a garden team of four; one employee and three contractors. The Gardens Manager will also work closely with arboriculture specialists to oversee the delivery of the estate’s Tree Policy – both in terms of safety and sustainability. They will oversee the digital data collection (tree inspection programs and associated tree work), ensure compliance of all Health and Safety legislation and requirements in accordance with current Health and Safety at work and other relevant legislation. It is paramount that the Gardens Manager captures the health and safety inspections using a digital data collection system. Experience with digital data collection applications and programs is therefore required of all applicants for this role. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Horticulturalist with a minimum of 10 years’ relevant experience, supported by evidence of the innovative development and implementation of programs of work and long-term garden planning. As part of a dedicated team, you will share responsibility for the 42 acres of gardens; including rose beds, herbaceous boarders, lakeside planting & extensive hedging. The Gardens team is comprised of the Head Gardener, Senior Gardener and five Gardeners, which form a key part of the 26-strong estate team. The grounds have over 600 mature trees, extensive ornamental gardens and lawns.
Typical horticultural duties include bed preparation, planting, weeding, feeding and pruning across all garden areas. As the successful applicant, you will work under the direction of the Head Gardener and Senior Gardener, and alongside the rest of the team to ensure the highest horticultural standards are maintained for the benefit of all members and their guests.
Candidates must be friendly, polite and diplomatic, with proven horticultural ability and genuine passion. Good plant identification ability, experience with a range of gardening machinery and a PA1/6 certificate is essential, as is the willingness to learn new skills. The 12-acre gardens reflect the Arts and Crafts-style of the buildings, with structured formal hedges and clipped topiary blended with cottage garden perennials to create a soft pastel colour palette. The grounds are located within a conservation area with many native and ornamental mature trees. The elements of the garden include: a woodland glen, main lawn, sunken garden with an ornamental pond, formal bedding, shrub borders, rose garden, herbaceous borders, orchard, greenhouse and shade garden.
The Role
We are seeking an enthusiastic full-time Gardener to join our maintenance and soft-landscaping team, working for a prestigious 12-acre private estate in south-west London. Working hours are 8am – 4:30pm Monday to Friday.
Within the role the candidate’s duties would include the development and maintenance of the gardens. This is a role for someone with experience of working within the horticulture industry, who wants to be involved with a motivated, innovative company and has the ability to work with minimum supervision.
Duties will include:
- Planting and general aftercare
- Pruning and hedge cutting
- Mowing and lawn care
- Irrigation
- Weeding and border maintenance

- Good plant knowledge (a plant ident will be required at interview stage)
- Driving license (desirable)
Good communication skills are key, as well as being proactive and cooperative, with the ability to work to deadlines and high standards with minimum supervision. The role will involve interaction with other employees, residents and contractors, so you will ideally be outgoing and friendly.
