An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced gardener at a private estate in North London. The successful applicant will join a busy team and will have the opportunity to develop their skills and experience in a garden which is maintained to the highest aesthetic and horticultural standards. Candidates must have good plant identification skills, a thorough knowledge of garden maintenance practices and demonstrate confident use of garden machinery. We are looking for someone with a positive approach who is flexible, responsible and proactive, with a meticulous attention to detail.
The 11-acre estate includes extensive lawns, woodland areas, water features, mixed shrub and herbaceous borders and formal gardens. Duties will include planting, pruning, propagation, weeding, lawn maintenance, hedge trimming, leaf collecting, mulching and also occasional upkeep of pathways and hard landscaping.
Candidates must hold a recognised horticultural qualification, such as NVQ or RHS Level 2 or equivalent. Experience of working in a large garden of a similar nature would also be advantageous. PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and other additional qualifications would be desirable, though not essential as training can be provided if necessary. Experience of irrigation systems would also be advantageous. Some weekend work may be required, and all applicants must live within a commutable distance.
The successful applicant will report to the Head Gardener and will play a key role in contributing to the development and improvement of one of London’s largest gardens, where our aim is to consistently achieve excellence. Full uniform and PPE will be provided.
Depending on your experience the salary range is £20,000 to £26,000, further training opportunities would be available as well as the possibility of promotion. There is also a discretionary yearly bonus. The hours of work would typically be 08:00-16:30 with 30-minute lunch and a 30-minute break.

Historic Royal Palaces (HRP) is looking for a dynamic and experienced hands-on Garden Team Manager to join our gardens team at Kensington Palace. Your role will be to manage a team of dedicated gardeners, taking responsibility for all garden activities, as well as external fabric and green spaces – maintaining and developing the gardens around the Palace to 5 star standards
Leading from the front and working closely with your team, your duties will also include responsibility for health and safety, staff development, work scheduling and the security of all equipment. You will also act as HRP’s representative in all matters relating to the day to day management of the gardens. Floral bedding designs and plant ordering will also be part of this varied role.
Working within this team and with a keen eye for detail you will have a passion for gardening in prestigious gardens; a professional all round knowledge of garden maintenance tasks; and an understanding of what it means to provide a 5 Star service to our visitors.
The successful candidate will be positive, team focused and competent in using a range of horticultural machinery, for example hedge trimmers, lawn mowers and other specialist equipment. You also need to have good range of traditional gardening skills such as pruning, clipping topiary, seasonal bed planting and tending to containerised trees and shrubs.
You will have a horticultural qualification at QCF level 3 with practical horticultural experience, as well as proven experience of managing a team. You should be a proactive, enthusiastic and well organised individual able to work both independently and part of a team. Excellent communication and IT skills are essential in this role. Previous experience of leading a team and the ability to problem solve would be an advantage.
A full driving licence, and PA1:PA6 certification would be advantageous
