Plants Galore is a well-established family run Nursery & Garden Centre based in Roydon, Essex, now on its third generation. We supply Perennials, Topiary and Bedding plants on a wholesale basis to Garden Centres, Landscapers and Building projects while maintaining a loyal retail customer base.
Duties and responsibilities are as follows:
-Crop production of bedding/perennial plants from start to finish
-Supervision and training of team of workers
-Potting
-Spraying
The position requires good plant and production knowledge. The ability to manage and supervise a varied workforce especially agency staff is essential.
The applicant must be willing to work weekends and be able to work independently and on their own initiative.
Salary £30,000 pa

Estate Worker
An excellent opportunity has become available for a skilled estate worker to join a family-run private Grade 2* estate on the Essex/Suffolk border.
The estate is made up of about 50 acres including woodland, meadows, a 3-acre formal garden, a croquet lawn and swimming pool area. The garden has occasionally been open to the public in the past to help raise money for charities.
The Estate Worker will be part of a very friendly small professional team in a positive environment and will be responsible for the overall maintenance of the Estate. Duties include routine (both planned and reactive) maintenance, fault finding and general repairs to all internal and external areas of the Estate and with overall responsibility for security, the utilities, fire and intruder alarms. Carpentry, decorating and basic plumbing and electrical skills are required, and particularly swimming pool maintenance. In the summer, assistance with cutting lawns will be necessary.
Candidates will need to have adequate knowledge to be able to work on your own initiative and carry out repairs and work without supervision in the most efficient and proactive manner. You will understand and take responsibility for the successful day-to-day repairs & maintenance services on the Estate & grounds. The estate worker will be proactive, a good team player, have a ‘can do’ attitude and an excellent understanding of health and safety issues. The successful candidate must be a team player, hardworking, able to operate machinery, along with plant knowledge and a friendly manner with a flexible approach to their work. The estate is positioned in a secluded location therefore the candidates must be able to drive and be prepared to have a DBS check with references.

Gardener
A passionate and driven all rounded Gardener is sought after on a full time and permanent basis for a beautiful grade II* listed private estate on the Essex / Suffolk Border.
The garden was designed 25 years ago by the garden designer George Carter and has been developed into a stunning vista garden with incredible landscape views and expansive lawns. The estate covers about 50 acres including woodland, meadows and a 3-acre formal garden consisting of a rose garden, topiary, yew hedging a walled garden (cutting borders, raised beds, espalier fruit trees lining the walls of the garden, orangery), a large heated glasshouse housing tropical plants. There is also a croquet lawn and swimming pool area. The majority of the garden is kept organic, and the owners are looking to continue to promote organic practices and methods. The garden has occasionally been open to the public in the past to help raise money for charities.
The owners are friendly and have a positive working environment at the estate. A testament to this is that the staff have all stayed for long periods of time. The team currently consists of two other gardeners, a handyperson and a driver who occasionally helps with the gardening. The Lady of the house has a very keen interest in the garden and is passionate about plants. She used to be hands-on in the garden but has taken a step back and works closely with the gardeners. They are looking for an enthusiastic gardener to join on a long-term basis to manage and maintain the gardens.

Lambourne End Centre is looking for a Garden Instructor to work alongside the rest of the team; to manage the growing spaces and work on a daily basis with participants of the Food for Thought Programme, providing support and technical horticultural supervision.
The Centre is a fantastic 54 acre site in south west Essex which is full of opportunity. The Centre’s scenic location in a rural setting, yet on the doorstep of East London’s urban fringe creates a unique resource. The Centre boasts residential accommodation and training facilities, outdoor adventure activities, a garden project and a working farm with dedicated environmental areas. These are used to generate a wide range of programmes which promote and deliver personal development opportunities for young people, especially those at risk or struggling in traditional mainstream environments. All the programmes are designed to encourage team building, problem solving and communication skills, as well as build confidence and raise aspirations.
The Food for Thought programme provides a supportive environment which helps people develop practical and life skills whilst gaining confidence, increasing self-esteem and feeling valued. Food for Thought participants are (largely) young people who may have special educational needs, poor mental health including anxiety, or low confidence, and those needing assistance with transition into adulthood.
Suitable candidates should have:
-Experience of managing allotment style growing spaces (including inside growing spaces)
-The ability to plan a growing schedule that fully utilises the growing season and provides regular work throughout the year, ensuring that there is a regular flow of produce into the Centre’s Farm Shop
-Experience of working with people with learning disabilities, learning difficulties and those living with poor mental health
-Knowledge of organic gardening and permaculture
The post is based on a 35 hour week and may involve some evening and weekend working.
