We are seeking an experienced gardener to lead a small garden maintenance team for a small, expanding business. The experienced gardener will be expected to manage a certain number of jobs throughout the day and liaise with clients so good customer service skills are also a bonus.

Good physical fitness is required as there may be some help needed in hard landscaping at times.

The working hours are 8:00am-4.00pm starting at the base in Chigwell. Salary is £32,000 - £35,000 depending on experience and negotiable.

Holiday is 20 day per year plus bank holidays with a standard pension provided.

Nursery Technician

The successful candidate will be someone with experience within the horticultural industry, who is happy to work within a team of 10 staff to ensure the nursery is kept to show room standards.

Our client has been established for over 40 years and currently occupies an area of more than 7 acres. The company provides the wholesale supply and distribution of hardy shrubs, trees and ornamental plants to the nursery, garden centre, architectural, design and landscaping sectors.

Candidates will work alongside an existing team and accept responsibility for the wellbeing of all trees and shrubs on the nursery. The daily routine will involve inspecting all plants to ensure plants are healthy, pest and disease is monitored and managed effectively, irrigation is performed efficiently and any issues with regards to the automated watering system are reported and resolved before any further issues arise. Ideal candidates will be comfortable with the maintenance and operation of the bore hole and pump house daily. On occasions the successful candidate may be required to assist in other areas including plant nutrition and pruning.

The successful candidate will possess PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates and a strong knowledge of ornamental trees and shrubs to ensure that all plant stock is labelled correctly.

The position is a full-time permanent role, offering a competitive salary circa £28,000 depending on experience. The annual leave is 33 days holiday including bank holidays. The working day 8:00am – 5:00pm Monday to Friday with some weekend hours and overtime available during busier periods.

Description

As a Parks & Countryside Officer at Maldon District Council you will be expected to carry out a variety of duties and tasks in order to maintain the grounds & infrastructure of our 25 parks and open spaces across the Maldon district to a high standard. These include the flagship sites of Promenade Park in Maldon & Riverside Park in Burnham on Crouch.

The Parks & Countryside team’s “annualised hours” means working 29 hours per week October to March, increasing to 46 hours per week during April to September, which are paid monthly at an average of 38 hours/week across the year (April to March). 

The role will also require you to work regular weekends/bank holidays as part of the team rota, with occasional additional paid hours available to support major events and Council activities.

About this role

We sell hardy nursery stock, bedding plants, herbaceous plants, trees, and shrubs.  A manager is now required to join us, taking responsibility for running and improving the Plants Department as well as acting as duty manager for the whole Garden Centre.

Job Brief

You will work closely with our sundries manager to ensure the smooth general running of the garden centre as well as taking specific sole responsibility for the plants department.

As Manager, you need to deliver a high-quality service to customers, ensuring the plants are presented to a high standard. This is a very hands-on role and you will be required to operate a fork lift truck and accept deliveries, as well as help out practically in dealing with issues that arise in the Garden Centre such as IT and tills. This position would suit those who have already gained some experience in garden centre retailing with good plant and product knowledge.
