An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Gardener to join a very well-respected award-winning company on a permanent basis. The company has been responsible for numerous very high-profile projects and sites for many years and are now looking to add to the team on one such site near Woking, Surrey.  The company are offering an hourly rate of £10.80 with time and a half on Saturdays, and double time on Sundays.  A free bus from Woking station and Datchet is offered to employees, if required, to the site in question.

The high-profile commercial site comprises primarily of lawn and hedges, with some beds/borders and young to mature trees.  The job role will involve mowing, weeding, hedge cutting, spraying and using a range of garden machinery.

The following will be expected of the successful candidate:
  • Routine maintenance of the site to a high standard, alongside the existing team.
  • Working to contractual procedures to ensure compliance with maintenance guidelines.
  • Demonstrate a high level of detail and motivation with a strong work ethic and ability to work well as part of a team.
Applicants must possess the following:
  • Basic horticultural knowledge including the ability to visually identify weeds.
  • Excellent practical skills in all areas of garden maintenance including the use of petrol-powered garden machinery.
  • Good physical fitness and an ability to follow instruction where necessary.
  • A CSCS Card and PA1/PA6 spraying licence are desirable, though training can be provided if necessary.

Gardener / Estate Worker - Live In - EC7168

Gardener / Estate Worker required

A very attractive opportunity has arisen for a practically-minded and experienced estate maintenance person / gardener to take ownership of a beautiful estate on a live-in, permanent basis.  The position, based near Esher in Surrey, would suit a physically fit, friendly gardener with excellent estate maintenance skills and a strong work ethic.

The 4-acre private gardens predominantly comprise open lawns and laurel hedging with low-maintenance beds, topiary box and mature trees.  Applicants should have a horticultural background and be competent in the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery, including ride-on mowers.  There is no requirement for plant propagation or kitchen gardening, though candidates should be experienced private estate gardeners with good attention to detail.  Some experience of lawn care would be beneficial.

In addition to basic garden maintenance, the successful applicant must be well-versed in general estate maintenance, such that they are able to work confidently on their own and to solve problems as they arise.  Non-horticultural estate duties will include the basic care of a pond, swimming pool and tennis court, clearing gutters of leaves (from a ladder), keeping the paths and driveway clear, cleaning and refuelling of cars, minor indoor handyman duties (changing lightbulbs etc.), sourcing and managing contractors (tree surgery, plumbers, electricians etc.), care of dogs, cats and chickens when the owners are away, window cleaning (a few times per year only), airport runs (sometimes at unsociable times, 6 to 8 times yearly), take rubbish to the tip (3 to 4 times yearly), taking bins out to the road on a weekly basis, and other similar duties as they arise.

The family are an informal and friendly household, looking for a positive and trustworthy person to take pride in the management of their property.  Applicants must be positive in their outlook, friendly and easy-going, have a strong work ethic and have demonstrable experience in a similar role.  Applicants with academic horticultural qualifications and/or a strong private estates gardening and maintenance background are encouraged to apply.  Candidates must be non-smokers and hold a full UK driving licence.  The production of a DBS check (criminal background) may be required of applicants for this role.

Garden and Grounds Operative required

An opportunity has arisen for a physically fit and motivated hands-on grounds/garden operative to join the small team in Woking, Surrey. The role will involve the upkeep of crematorium gardens as well as additional duties associated with the smooth running of the site.  Applications are sought from experienced Maintenance Gardeners, Grounds Operatives or similar, with a strong background in the safe and efficient operation of garden machinery.  Applicants with good plant knowledge and experience in seasonal horticulture will be at an advantage.

The site comprises open expanses of lawn, beds and borders, shrubberies, hedges, a small pond and lake, and numerous trees.  The successful candidate will be required to carry out daily gardening tasks; mowing, hedge cutting, strimming, weeding, planting and pruning etc. and will also be required to assist with aspects of site maintenance typically associated with a crematorium;  maintenance of garden furniture, cleaning and maintenance of buildings, memorials, mounting of plaques, litter picking, car park duties etc.

Applicants must be physically fit, capable of heavy lifting and able to remain on their feet for long periods of time.  It is important that applicants are able to work to established health and safety standards all times, and to work well as part of a team.  Applicants should be competent in the safe operation of garden machinery and should have a good grounding in horticulture, i.e. basic plant identification skills and knowledge of correct pruning and planting techniques. 

Suitable applicants must also be able to follow instructions and guidance from the Senior Gardener and management, and to show initiative, in particular with regard to the development and enhancement of the grounds.  Applicants must demonstrate excellent timekeeping and attendance, and at all times behave, dress and act in a manner befitting the nature of the site.  The successful candidate will be asked to participate in any rotas where necessary, in particular for weekend services, security, Service of Remembrance, Carol Concerts etc.  Training is provided for successful applicants, so an opportunity to upskill exists and is offered on a regular basis.
