KEY PURPOSE
The Consultant is a key role within the team, reporting directly to the Manager. The estate has been the residence for the family for the past 6 years and went through extensive renovations upon purchase. As the House Manager/Butler you will be responsible for the overall management, care and upkeep of the property which will involve managing a housekeeper, as well as organising and liaising with outside contractors. The House Manager will ensure the property is secure at all times, oversee the maintenance of the property, and take responsibility for household inventory. Administrative responsibilities will include managing the household budget, petty cash management and keeping accurate accounting. Day to day you will deal with correspondence including emails, posts and phone calls keeping the principles updated frequently whilst liaising with the team of staff and sharing information to the team on behalf of the principle. This is also a hands-on role, and where required the successful candidates will be expected to roll up their sleeves and help in other areas such as with the household staff in the upkeep of the property.
Additional tasks will include Butler duties when the principles are in residence during July and August. Delivering exemplary customer service skills and display a genuine passion for creating an exceptional experience for all. Candidates should have extensive silver service experience with the ability to lay up and serve at table, serving drinks and canapés and announcing guests upon arrival. On occasion, the successful applicant may be required to travel to the principles other properties to cover existing staff, these are located in Monaco, Mougins and Sardinia.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, hardworking, and knowledgeable Sole Gardener on a beautiful small private estate in Hertfordshire. Implementing their strong plant knowledge, alongside good hands-on horticultural skills, the Sole Gardener will be responsible for the ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the gardens and grounds of approximately 10 acres in size.
The Sole Gardener will have a hands-on role in all areas of the gardens and grounds featuring lawns, formal beds, herbaceous borders, topiary, box hedging, a glasshouse, a pond area with planting and a large paddock.
Responsibilities of the Sole Gardener include mowing, hedge trimming, pruning, dead heading, weeding, leaf clearance, planting, pond management and the identification of pest and diseases in order to continue to maintain the property to a high horticultural standard. The successful candidate will also have the ability to operate and maintain a wide range of garden machinery associated with these tasks. Suitable candidates will be confident and considerate, motivated, organised and professional hands-on gardeners who are able to inspire their team. The successful candidate will effectively manage the nurseries including labour, capacity, budgets, and quality of the product. Plant health and the quality of plant production will be at the forefront of the role. Successful candidates will use their expertise in horticulture to ensure plant losses are minimal and that targets are met, within budget. The nurseries are always to be maintained in a neat orderly fashion.
The company currently processes around 1 million plants a year, 80% of which are evergreens along with 20% being herbaceous perennials. The company is spread over three growing sites which they intend to continue developing in the future particularly with regards to growing under glass. Currently most growing is done within polytunnels and open ground. The successful candidate will report directly to the Operations Manager and be responsible for a team of 8 full time staff which can fluctuate depending on the requirements of the season, increasing, up to 20 staff during peak times. Candidates will be responsible for the smooth operation and organisation of all nursery processes, maintaining accurate records, monitoring, and controlling pest and disease to minimize losses and able to apply their horticultural expertise to improve the efficiency of all nursery operations.
Essential requirements for this role include:
- A formal horticultural qualification.
- At least 3 years management experience on an ornamental nursery.
- At least 3 years’ experience managing and implementing an IPM program.
- A Proven experience in building a team with a strong team ethos.
- A good working knowledge of irrigation systems and production machinery.
A forklift licence, PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates and 2 + years’ experience in dispatch would be beneficial, but not essential. There will be a managerial / office aspect to this role however, predominantly this is a very hands on role and the successful candidate will be expected to work closely with staff across the nursery.
Working hours will be: 7.00am – 4.00 pm with a 1-hour break, Monday – Friday.

An attractive opportunity has arisen for a Sole Gardener on a beautiful private estate in much sought-after location 7 miles from Hereford. The position would suit an experienced and skilled gardener with an active interest in biodiversity.
The stunning 17th century grade II listed building is surrounded by an interesting and diverse garden containing a Venetian Garden, Mediterranean garden, rose garden, walled garden modelled on an alpine garden with lawns, borders, flower beds and rose bushes. The Sole Gardener will be responsible for reinstating but also shaping the future of the garden. They will have initiative and a creative eye to contribute new ideas to improve and develop the gardens and estate e.g. irrigation, pollarding, hedging. The successful candidate will take ownership and great pride in their work delivering beautiful results.
Applicants should have experience of the above, be confident and skilled in pruning methods, i.e., of wisteria and roses, and be physically fit with good horticultural knowledge and plant identification skills. Excellent knowledge of lawn maintenance, shrubs and herbaceous plants is important. Candidates will ideally possess an academic horticultural qualification e.g. RHS level 2 or similar, previous experience delivering maintenance for a high quality garden. As the position is singlehanded, discipline, time management and organisation are essential. As the Senior Landscape Architect, you will be working on a variety of exciting residential gardens, urban spaces and historic landscapes. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate extensive experience in hard and soft landscape design with sound knowledge of technical detailing. Being a good communicator with both clients and design team, having proven ability to lead projects of various scales and complexities. The client is looking for a passionate individual who will contribute to the management of the existing committed and enthusiastic team. Candidates will have high level technical and design skills with experience across a wide range of project types and all work stages with the ability to deliver a whole package for medium-large scale high-end landscape residential projects.
Essential Skills and Attributes
Candidates will be able to demonstrate extensive experience in hard and soft landscape design with a sound knowledge of technical detailing.
- Extensive experience in High End residential projects
- Experience in using a wide range of software including Lumion/Adobe Suits/Autocad
- A qualification in Landscape Architecture or equivalent professional experience working in a landscape design studio.
- Dedicated, organised, self-motivated and willing to work across a range of projects.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills
- Ability to work effectively both individually and with a team.
- Can work under pressure and to the highest standard for project deadlines.
- Exceptional attention to detail with an ability to illustrate work with flair and creativity
- Full drivers’ licence is desirable but not essential
