Job Description:
The service has grown over the years through building working relationships with new and existing clients and companies alike. Through these relationships come recommendations from delighted clients, and they take great pride in enhancing the beauty and function of their outdoor spaces. Using exceptional quality, utmost integrity, close relationships, and proven expertise the Horticultural Consultant will play a key role within the company. The Horticultural Consultant will be the main point of contact with clients, both new and existing. You will travel to appointments to offer an at home planting and horticultural consultancy service, where you would meet with clients, provide them with advice and planting recommendations for their requirements. This requires providing expert advice to customers on their site, followed up with a comprehensive professional report.
Main Duties Include:
- Frequent site visits to new and existing customers, providing them with excellent horticultural advice and planting recommendations for their requirements.
- Displaying excellent customer relations with the ability to confidently and openly discuss elements of the client’s garden that need improving and additional care and expansion.
- You will support ongoing sales efforts including researching/prospecting, preparing client pitch materials, and handling ongoing follow-up with prospects)
- Manage and track client prospects and client outreach efforts as well as oversee and manage the client database and ensure regular contact is maintained with each client.
- Network and add new potential clients on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients and be the first point of contact should any queries arise.
- Liaise with the design, sales, and landscaping team to ensure all projects are running smoothly.

As Horticultural Consultant you will be in regular contact with clients and be responsible for ensuring their outdoor spaces look impeccable all year round. - Excellent horticultural knowledge, with good plant identification and knowledge of the seasons

- The ability to put together prices and quotes
- Experience in creating garden designs both hand drawn or using computer software are extremely desirable.
As this role will involve travelling to different sites, candidates must hold a full clean driving licence
The role will be working Monday to Friday with flexible working hours based on the individual candidate with unlimited overtime available
Although this is a full-time role, the client is willing to consider part time applications for the right candidate.

Skilled Gardener
A great opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener on a stunning Edwardian estate near Chepstow, Wales. The gardens and grounds have recently undergone significant renovation and redesign by Arne Maynard. As a Skilled Gardener you will work with the team on the continued development and maintenance of the gardens which are maintained consistently to a high standard.
The two-acre formal garden incorporates the original structure of the Edwardian Garden as created at the beginning of the 1900’s, whilst bringing back the rich planting palette that has been lost over time, as well as hard landscaping materials appropriate to the period.
The formal gardens incorporate many outstanding features including a large terrace with clipped enkianthus in pots with borders planted with irises. There is a large pergola garden supporting wisteria and roses together with a separate rose garden surrounding a formal pond planted with water lilies. Large copper beech topiary is set alongside the roses and provides structure and scale, with cloud topiary providing variation of form and a contemporary edge.
A formal bowling lawn is enveloped by an original yew hedge, framing various sculptures, with large yew topiary, two water features and deep herbaceous and shrub borders to provide colour against the deep green background. An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and competent Head Gardener to maintain a historic private estate located near St Andrews in Scotland, to a high standard throughout the year, as well as helping to shape the future of the gardens as part of long-term planning.
The established gardens extend to 16 acres and comprise of formal areas including lawns, mature yew hedging, mixed shrub planting, herbaceous borders, ponds and planted pathways. A heated greenhouse and cold frames are used for propagation. This role also encompasses the care and maintenance of all the estates house plants. The Head Gardener is a key position and the person appointed will be responsible for ensuring that all areas are maintained to the highest horticultural standards in order to preserve its unique character for the benefit of the family and visitors.

Job Description
This Technical Grower will assist the head grower and the Directors and must have experience in all aspects of similar crop production and a good knowledge of composts, fertilisers, watering and pests and diseases. The job involves constantly monitoring our crops and growing them to the highest quality, displaying good knowledge of seed and cutting production. Responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
- Assistance to the Head Grower with the forward planning and management of the nursery
- Purchasing of all stock and sundries required for nursery operations
- Leading teams on growing related tasks to timescale and agreed standards
- Pest, disease and quality control
- Ensuring the team are working safely and complying with relevant legislation

Key Skills:

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified hands-on Gardener in Charge to manage and maintain a beautiful and unique 10-acre private estate near Cheltenham, with some very unusual features.
The stunning family garden is south facing and made up of ten different character areas consisting of manicured lawns, terraced front lawn, Italianate terrace, a formal olive garden, herbaceous/mixed borders, a fruit orchard and three different character pools: The Bear Pool, The Cave Pool & The Folly Pool linked by a natural stream through a wild garden area.
The ideal candidate will have good horticultural knowledge and the ability to apply this to plant selection in respect of each character area. The work will involve maintenance and enhancement of the existing garden and as such, the position would suit a practical, knowledgeable and physically fit horticulturist with a keen eye for detail.
Applicants will be positive and proactive gardeners with self-motivation and the drive for the hands-on aspect of gardening. A long term and reliable contractor comes in to assist with the basic gardening e.g. mowing the lawn, cutting hedges and weeding along with other support staff as and when necessary.
The Gardener in Charge will ideally hold an academic horticultural qualification and have considerable gardening/horticultural experience. Good plant identification skills are essential, and propagation skills desired as there is a greenhouse on site. Chainsaw certification (CS30/31) and spray certificates (PA1/PA6) are desirable though not essential, as training can be provided. A wide range of garden machinery and equipment is provided, with which the gardener must be experienced and adept as well as having associated knowledge of health and safety. A driving licence is essential. General maintenance / handyperson knowledge would be an advantage as assistance may occasionally be required such as fixing fencing and laying slabs.
The successful candidate must be happy to work in all weather conditions, tidy in their work, proud of developing estate gardens to the highest standard and comfortable with giving direction to the contractor. Organisation and the ability to manage your daily work schedules effectively are important.

Senior Gardener
An experienced and enthusiastic Senior Gardener is required to work on a 108-acre, beautiful private estate located near Ely, Cambridgeshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled gardener to become an integral part of the ongoing development and maintenance of the gardens, on a permanent full-time basis.
Surrounding the main property, which is a 10-bedroom modern mansion, are formal lawns, a rose garden, mature woods and a vegetable garden. Much of the estate is occupied by a stud farm which features approximately 30-35 stabled horses. The rose garden contains a spectacular variety of roses and seasonal plants. The vegetable garden consists of trees, bushes and plants – providing the main house with produce throughout the year. There are various cottages on-site which are lived in by estate employees and all benefit from spectacular views across the gardens, to the paddocks and beyond.
The gardens require a Senior Gardener to be part of a friendly, hardworking team and will be responsible for maintaining a stunning private garden to a high standard. The successful candidate will need to possess a true willingness to work alongside and to support, train and mentor other staff and volunteers.
Applicants should ideally hold a horticultural qualification at level 2 or above and a minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a similar environment. He / She will have a comprehensive level of plant knowledge including herbaceous borders, pruning, rose care, fruit and vegetable propagation and fine lawn care. Applicants should have a demonstrable background in horticulture and possess a good level of competency in the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery. Part Time Gardener
A wonderful opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and knowledgeable gardener to maintain a beautiful private garden near Godalming, on a part-time (2-3 days/week) self-employed basis. This vacancy is open to driven and skilled Gardeners / Horticulturists in the locality.

The current gardener will be retiring soon, and the new gardener will be taking over 2-3 days per week, to be agreed. Applicants will have a minimum of 5 to 10 years’ experience working on private estates and will ideally hold a horticultural qualification. The successful applicant will be an all-round gardener with a range of gardening skills including specialist pruning and hedge cutting. Physical fitness and enthusiasm are essential as this is a hands-on role. Some knowledge of, and an interest in promoting wildlife and diversity would be beneficial but not a requirement.
Handyman experience e.g. fence building., basic electrical and machinery skills would be advantageous as the owners have mowers, a mechanical scythe and an irrigation system. They live at the property part time and therefore seek a highly trustworthy and personable individual to occasionally assist with checking in on the security, deliveries and provide access to builders and other tradesmen.
Although the position is part time, the owners are looking for a permanent gardener looking for a long-term opportunity to manage and maintain their beautiful garden for the foreseeable future. They hope the gardener would become a friend of the family with time.

They specialise in alpines, bedding plants and perennials, producing over 100 different varieties of bedding and over 500 varieties of alpines. Our clients supplies 90% of garden centres and over five major retailers across the UK, growing within a mixture of glasshouses, polytunnels and outdoor beds.
Our client wishes to recruit a skilled, Senior Grower to join the existing, experienced team. The individual will be joining a very stable and successful family business with a rich heritage built over 4 generations of growing.
Job Description
The ideal candidate will be an accomplished alpine or bedding grower with a wealth of experience and knowledge within the specific field. An extensive understanding of the entire alpine or bedding production and growing process is required, including an appreciation for all frequently used machinery. A track record within the horticultural sector must be held including relevant training and qualifications. They must possess a comprehensive knowledge of industry changes including new laws and regulations. A thorough understanding of both indoor and outdoor growing techniques is also required.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the growing of plants and implementation of reliable growing processes including pesticide application, irrigation, lighting, temperature, growing media, fertilization, nutrition and monitoring the overall health of plants. As such, the key accountabilities for this position are as follows:
- Determine nutrient and watering/moisture requirements.
- Control pests by implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM).
- Control environmental conditions by regulating humidity, ventilation and temperature utilising Priva climate controls software.
- Communicates cultural or plant issues to management immediately.
- Responsible for troubleshooting crop issues and diagnosis of unknown health or damage problems.
- Maintain records of crop activities and observations including pesticide applications and growth records.
- Help troubleshoot greenhouse mechanical/environmental control systems.
Additional Information
In addition to the aforementioned responsibilities, the successful candidate will also be required to engage in some weekend work and to perform other duties as assigned. They will also be responsible for following growing schedules by determining schedules with the Grower Manager/Head Grower, aiding in the training of Grower Assistants/Helpers and delegating and setting routines for Grower Assistants/Helpers.
This position offers a range of opportunities within a well-established nursery for skilled grower with a horticultural specialism in either alpines or bedding. This is a full-time position which provides a holiday allowance of 31 days including bank holidays.
