With over 40 years’ experience within the commercial sector, BALI award winning and recognised for their outstanding value and quality. Providing landscaping services to high end sites in London and the South East of England, with clients including business parks, urban civic spaces, office estates, hotels, restaurants, retail parks and hospitals. They are now looking to recruit a Landscape Manager for a static site based in Surrey since taking over the site in September 2021. The site holds huge potential, and this is an excellent opportunity for someone to be part of the development of the grounds. Covering approximately 40 acres the site includes manicured gardens, woodland walks, and expansive lawns; with plenty more plans for the grounds in the pipeline.
Main Responsibilities
As Landscape Manager for this stunning site, the successful candidate will play a key role as a member of the landscaping team, leading a team of operatives on the maintenance of all landscape and infrastructure. Playing an important part of the development and ongoing maintenance of the site.
Main duties will include:
- Effectively manage/supervise, motivate, and lead the landscaping team to ensure that activities and tasks are undertaken to the highest possible safety standards and in accordance with the contract terms and KPI’s
- Ensure tools, equipment, machinery, and vehicles are in good working order and routinely maintained
- Manage, supervise, and assist with landscaping projects and the ongoing maintenance of the site
- Proactively report incidents, or concerns offering suggestions regarding the site, clients, or team to the line manager.
- Motivate, and support the ongoing training of the team to help them reach their maximum potential and providing a supportive and visible presence.
Key Skills:
The successful candidate will have excellent horticultural knowledge with a recognised horticultural qualification being highly desirable, as well as a PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and chainsaw certificate. A minimum of 4 years’ experience in the horticultural sector with plenty of hands-on experience, as well as a good understanding a wide variety of landscape strategies and knowledge of.
Also essential for the role are:
- Hands on landscaping experience of bedding out, pruning and lawn edging
- Experience with use of a wide range of garden tools and machinery
- A demonstratable ability to establish and sustain a good working relationship within a team, as well as holding the initiative to work alone.
- Basic IT skills
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Full UK drivers’ licence, preferable with legal and practical ability to use a trailer
This is a full time, permanent role. Working days are Monday to Friday and working hours can be flexible.

Head Gardener
An exciting new vacancy has become available for a Head Gardener to lead a small team of gardeners in the ongoing care of a beautiful, mature 12-acre garden in North Wiltshire. Both the property and gardens are well-renowned. This position would suit a qualified and knowledgeable Head Gardener with excellent attention to detail and experience of supervising under gardeners.
The gardens are well established and varied. The main body of the garden consists of terraced lawns and mature trees with the local river running through the garden itself. Formal areas include a large parterre, clipped hedges dividing the garden into separate areas, established planted borders, a grotto planted with ferns and a walled garden (2.5 acres). The property has a large walled garden which is currently used to supply the house with good quality produce. The Walled Garden comprises of vegetable and cut flower gardens to supply the house, as well as a large green house and cold frames, fruit trees and soft fruits.
The new Head Gardener will liaise directly with property owner, organising the work schedules for the garden, leading four existing members of the gardening team. Additional estate and household staff work and live on site. Ensuring that the gardens are managed and presented to an extremely high standard. The successful applicant will need to be committed, motivated, have an eye for detail and a desire to achieve high standards. Applicants must possess good supervisory and communication skills as well as a positive attitude. A rare opportunity has arisen for a Sole Gardener to join the garden and grounds of a beautiful residential property located on the picturesque island of Jersey. The owner now requires a skilled gardener with additional handyman qualities to assist in the ongoing maintenance and development of the gardens and grounds to become part of a small, friendly, family-like team.
The stunning 2-acre gardens feature fine lawns, one of which at the front of the property provides unspoilt views of the ocean. There is a greenhouse propagating a wide variety of plants such as cyclamens, tomatoes, peppers, and herbs from both cuttings and seeds. The tennis court has been converted into raised bed vegetable garden growing produce for the house, a selection of fruit trees including lime, lemon and orange which are moved into the greenhouse for the winter. Also, within the grounds is a swimming pool and cutting garden growing roses and dahlias for the main house.
Our client seeks a highly skilled Sole Gardener/Groundsperson to help maintain the gardens on a year-round basis. Applicants should ideally possess an academic horticultural qualification, such as an RHS level 2 or equivalent, combined with several years’ experience working in a similar role. As such, excellent plant knowledge and technical skills are essential for this position with experience in propagation. General maintenance duties will include but are not limited to pruning, planting, weeding, mowing, strimming, and edging. The owner is a keen gardener, and where they can, get stuck in with the garden; they are open to ideas the Gardener will have with regards to the development of the gardens.
In addition to gardening responsibilities, the successful candidate will be expected to be fully competent in maintenance and groundsman activities, which include but are not limited to, power washing the paths and driveway, topping up bird feeders, monitoring irrigation, leaf blowing, raking, digging, and managing compost. As such, this is a physically demanding position which requires a fit and strong individual who is also flexible in their work to provide assistance around the house when required. Other general duties will include occasional chauffeuring and valeting of the owners 2 cars when needed.
Management of external contractors will be an additional feature of this position and therefore previous experience in doing so will be advantageous for prospective candidates. Applicants should be physically fit and with a ‘can do’ attitude. A self-motivated individual with a strong work ethic, ability to work to their own initiative and willingness to work to consistently high standards are qualities which are essential for this role.
A full, clean UK driving license, previous experience in the use and maintenance of a wide range of gardening machinery including PA1 and PA6 spraying, and chainsaw certification are a requirement for this position; however, external contractors are to be used for large hedge works. The house is well equipped with machinery, which the gardener should be capable of maintaining between services.
This position comes with a beautiful one bedroom, furnished flat, situated on site which boasts glorious views of the surrounding countryside. The flat is suitable for a non-smoking single occupant or a couple, however, not suitable for pets and/or children. A requirement of the role involves completing daily security checks and monitoring the main house when the principle is away.
The hours of work for this position are 7:30am-4.30pm, Monday-Friday with a coffee break 10:00-10:30am, and lunch break 1pm-1:30pm. Please note, the successful candidate will be subject to a DBS check.

Job Description
This is a unique opportunity for the right person to manage and oversee day-to-day operations throughout the site. Although reporting to the Production Director and having the full support of the senior management team, As Site Manager you will need to operate in a self-contained manner. Full training will be given. This role is based at the Sparsholt campus but will involve travel to visit apprentices in various locations, so a valid driving licence is essential. We are seeking to recruit to our renowned team of horticulture staff a further Lecturer to teach theory and practical tasks to students studying on the Horticulture and Landscape Operative Standard at Level 2 and 3 along with other teaching programmes as required.
The areas of teaching allocated will be dependent upon the successful applicant’s knowledge and competency but the successful applicant should be competent to deliver some of the following areas: Amenity Horticulture, Hard Landscaping, Business Management, Plant and Soil Science, Propagation, Machinery.
Applicants should have good all round horticultural and landscaping knowledge and must have a minimum of 3 years post qualification experience together with a Level 4 (or above) qualification. and preferably substantial industry experience and previous teaching experience.
