Ecology and the environment are at the heart of this new Estimator role, supporting the rural economy throughout the UK. Clients will include large Civils, Local Authorities, Housing Developers and Architects. Contract values can be up to £3.2m.
Key points
The person employed would undertake all estimating matters for commercial soft landscape and vegetation management contracts. This will be a predominantly office-based role with visits to sites and clients. They could be based in either the Lichfield or Exeter office.
Responsibilities will include
•Production of PQQ’s
•Estimating new contracts
•Procurement of materials
•Client negotiation
•Pricing and agreeing variations to contracts
•Monitoring contracts and producing financial reports

Must haves

The Sole Gardener will be responsible for basic management of the newly-planted vineyard, established gardens, and will be confident in giving tours of the gardens to visitors when required. You will not be required to have an in-depth knowledge of viticulture, but rather an awareness and enthusiasm for the developing estate gardens and associated services. Applicants should possess an academic horticultural qualification, good horticultural knowledge and extensive demonstrable experience. Experience in the growing and management of cut flowers, roses, vegetables and fruit is required, as is a basic understanding of associated pest and disease management. Applicants should be physically fit with the ability and willingness to undertake planting and pruning, and the operation and basic maintenance of a range of garden machinery. Experience with plant propagation and glasshouses is desired, as is an ability to produce cut flowers for display in the main house. Additional rose beds and espalier-trained fruit trees are planned, so experience in these areas would be beneficial. As some chainsaw and spray work will be required in specific areas of the estate, appropriate certification is desired (PA1/PA6 and CS30/CS31). A positive attitude and good sense of humour is essential, as is the desire to become a key player in the development of this stunning and unique family-owned estate.

Skilled Gardener - EC3848 - This position has been filled
A career advancement opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to join a small team on a private estate in Marten, Wiltshire. The 50 acre site includes a two acre garden with a wide variety of plants and areas of horticultural interest.
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to become Assistant Head Gardener in future and so must be confident in the general running of the garden in the absence of the Head Gardener.
The existing garden team consists of a Head Gardener, two Under Gardeners and an apprentice. An additional experienced gardener is required to assist in the overall management of the garden on a full-time permanent basis. The garden consists of various beds and borders, a rose garden, kitchen garden, a cut flower area and areas of manicured and natural lawn as well as three glasshouses. The two acre garden is surrounded by paddocks and woodland. The property also plays host to small animals such as chickens and ducks which are managed by the garden team. Applicants should therefore be willing to assist with all non-horticultural aspects of the job when required.
Applicants should be experienced gardeners; qualified to at least Level 2 and must have experience of working on private estate gardens. You should be confident in your seasonal horticultural skills, plant identification skills, and must be proficient in the use of garden machinery including ride-on mowers. Spray and chainsaw certificates would be beneficial, but are not essential for the role initially.
The role will involve general garden maintenance with a focus on the more involved horticultural tasks such as kitchen gardening and the management of roses, beds and borders, glasshouse work and propagation. The suitable candidate will be confident and willing to work within a small friendly team but should also be happy to work autonomously in certain areas of the garden for the majority of the time.
This is a genuine opportunity for a skilled, qualified and passionate gardener to demonstrate their talents and to move up the career ladder into an Assistant Head Gardener role.
