Skilled and Experienced Gardener Required - ADV221

An exceptional opportunity has arisen for a qualified and experienced gardener at a private estate in Highgate, North London. The successful applicant will join a busy team and will have the opportunity to develop their skills and experience in a garden which is maintained to the highest aesthetic and horticultural standards. Candidates must have good plant identification skills, a thorough knowledge of garden maintenance practices and demonstrate confident use of garden machinery. We are looking for someone with a positive approach who is flexible, responsible and proactive, with a meticulous attention to detail.

The 11-acre estate includes extensive lawns, woodland areas, water features, mixed shrub and herbaceous borders and formal gardens. Duties will include planting, pruning, propagation, weeding, lawn maintenance, hedge trimming, leaf collecting, mulching and also occasional upkeep of pathways and hard landscaping.

Candidates must hold a recognised horticultural qualification, such as NVQ or RHS Level 2 or equivalent. Experience of working in a large garden of a similar nature would also be advantageous. PA1/PA6 spraying certificates and other additional qualifications would be desirable, though not essential as training can be provided if necessary. Experience of irrigation systems would also be advantageous. Some weekend work may be required and all applicants must live within a commutable distance.

The successful applicant will report to the Head Gardener and will play a key role in contributing to the development and improvement of one of London’s largest gardens, where our aim is to consistently achieve excellence. Contract will be 6 months initially, possibly extending to permanent employment. Full uniform and PPE will be provided.

Experienced Gardener - EC4252

A hands on Experienced Gardener is required to work alongside the existing gardener who has been with the private estate for 21 years. The estate is near Evesham in Gloucestershire and recently changed ownership. It comprises 6 acres that includes herbaceous shrubs, rose borders, small orchard, old rose garden, knot garden, patio area, yew and box hedging, topiary meadow and a number of ponds and small streams. There is also a number of climbing plants, vegetable/cut flower garden and a greenhouse that the current gardener looks after.

The ideal applicant will be a practical gardener with hands on experience who can manage their own time and work independently. You will need extensive knowledge of pruning and plant maintenance combined with an eye for planting combinations especially in the herbaceous borders where the owners need advice. An RHS Level 2/3 practical certificates would also be an advantage, though proven work record is more important.

The vegetable garden is organic, however PA1/PA6 certificates are required along with knowledge of fungicides for treatment of roses, box etc. Chainsaw certificates would also be desirable though not essential.

Whilst the owners are keen to take on a new gardener they wish to retain the existing gardener, therefore you must be willing to work alongside somebody who has been with the estate for an extended period of time.

Working hours will be Monday to Friday though flexibility is expected. The garden is also open one Sunday each year for the NGS.

Gardener/Groundsman (Live in) - EC4229

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Gardener/Groundsman with gardening experience to assist with a mixture of gardening, handyman and estate duties as part of a small team running a beautiful 130 acre private estate between Salisbury and Southampton. The 10 acres of garden are a mixture of formal lawns, mature herbaceous borders, terracing, water features and box/yew hedging and topiary structures in a classic English country estate setting.

Applicants for this role need to have a good knowledge of gardening/plants combined with the ability to also undertake handyman duties, look after two Great Danes and two Labradors for the owners, undertake security of the property, and assist with any estate duties as required.

The owners require someone who is seeking long term employment on the estate, prepared to work hard, flexible and willing to take on responsibility for their duties whatever the task may be. You must also be able work with minimal supervision and think on your feet to manage the workload. The ability to work in a team and be able to fit in and get on with others on the estate is also essential as there will be some overlap of duties as there is a part time gardener and contractor that form part of the estate team.

As part of your duties the owners will expect you to live in the main house with the dogs whilst they are away to ensure the security of their property.

A full clean driving licence is required, and own transport would be an advantage as the vacancy is situated in a rural area.

Pets are allowed, but not at work. The position may be unsuitable for a family with young children.

Our client is looking for looking for an Experienced Gardener with a real desire and interest in maintaining the extensive grounds of a 30 acre private property in Alresford, Hampshire to exacting standards.
