Sole Gardener - Live Out - EC4848

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a skilled Sole Gardener to take ownership of a beautiful and varied private garden, located in Central Wiltshire.  The position would suit a talented and well-rounded private estate gardener with demonstrable experience of working autonomously on private estates.

The garden is approximately 2-3 acres in area, the majority of which comprises managed lawns and wildflowers, with a stunning backdrop of mature beech forest and surrounding parkland.  The formal garden areas are separated into ‘rooms’ which include a kitchen garden (to be expanded) and fruit cage, open lawns, mixed herbaceous borders and shrubs, climbing wisteria, hedges, a variety of specimen trees, and a formal pool and tennis court.  A modern glasshouse is used for plant propagation and production of certain fruit crops.  The buildings themselves provide character to the property by way of a red brick clock and bell tower, with the main house in Bath Limestone, each with their respective garden areas.

An existing full-time estate management team take care of the mowing and hedge cutting, though the workload and future plans for the garden are too great for the part-time gardeners.  It is the owner’s intention therefore, to employ a full-time Sole Gardener to take ownership of the garden on a permanent basis.  The successful candidate must be a skilled and ideally qualified gardener with demonstrable experience in each of the above areas.  Good plant knowledge is essential, as is excellent attention to detail, time management skills and an enthusiastic attitude towards horticulture in general.  Applicants must be physically fit, motivated, and should be able to provide evidence of working in a similar role on a privately-owned estate.

This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled gardener to take on a beautiful garden, and to ensure its full potential is realised via application of your practical garden skills and horticultural knowledge.  The garden used to be open to the public as part of the National Garden Scheme, and it is the intention of the owner to open the garden to the public once again in the future.  Experienced gardeners who feel they may be lacking in certain skill areas are welcome to apply, as the client is open to offering the position to candidates with clear potential and a genuine passion for ongoing professional development.  A full driving licence and your own transport are required, as the property is located rurally.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a live-in couple to join a historic private estate near Chippenham, North Wiltshire. This opening would suit a skilled gardener and experienced housekeeper couple with experience in a similar role on private estates. The gardener role is full time, with the housekeeper position offered on a 30 hours per week basis (approximately).

The Grade II listed mid-seventeenth century manor house is surrounded by gardens that, until recently, have been part of the National Garden Scheme. The client is looking for a fresh, fun and interesting approach to the modification of their garden so applicants need not be entirely traditional in their approach, however quality and attention to detail are of paramount importance.  As this is a Sole Gardener role, applicants must possess a friendly, positive and flexible attitude towards the estate and their work, such that they are willing to assist with general estate duties as they arise, including some driving and occasional DIY.  The Sole Gardener will also be required to sometimes look after the owner’s spaniel.

In addition to the Sole Gardener position, there is a requirement for a housekeeper to assist in the management of the 8 bedroom manor house on a basis of approximately 30 hours per week. This post will involve housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, food shopping and some weekend cooking, and preparation for the arrival of visitors.  There are some full weekends (visiting children and grandchildren) and a pattern of informal weekend entertaining, though this occurs very occasionally.  .  The successful candidates will have the use of a car and will be offered accommodation by way of a three bedroom cottage with its own garden.  The tenants of the adjoining cottage help with cover for holidays and are good neighbours in every respect. The local farm partner and farm building tenants are also part of the supportive community. The owners are usually away midweek.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a friendly and genuine community on a beautiful estate in rural Wiltshire, located within easy reach of Chippenham, Bath and Bristol.  The opportunity is offered to couples that fulfil the Sole Gardener and Housekeeper requirements, with a negotiable starting company salary of £25,000 and £15,000 respectively.
