An incredible opportunity has arisen for an experienced senior gardener to rejuvenate and restore a prestigious listed garden around an important Grade 1 house near Salisbury, with the objective to bring it back to its former glory. The position is full time and permanent.

The property is a large Georgian country house surrounded by a 3-acre formal garden that is part of a wider estate including listed parkland, paddocks, woodland, swimming pool and tennis court. The 19^th century formal garden to the West was terraced by William Butterfield and features yew topiary, stone urns and steps, fine specimen trees, water features, and extensive lawns. To the East is a large lawn and attractive pastureland framed by mature trees. To the North and South the property is bordered by woodland.

The owners recently purchased the property and are looking to carry out a complete restoration of the garden. The ideal candidate will have an eye for detail and a strong interest in getting involved in a rejuvenating and renewal project. We seek applications from professional gardeners who have proven experience of maintaining a large formal garden. Good plant knowledge is essential preferably backed up by appropriate horticultural qualifications plus PA1/6 sprayers certificates.

Duties will include, lawn care and mowing, maintenance of shrubs and planted areas - including new planting as required, maintain and trim box and yew hedging, maintenance of the vegetable garden including bringing on new vegetables and flowers in the greenhouse.

You should be familiar with the safe use and general maintenance of normal garden machinery and equipment including the use of small ladders.

The role of Senior Buyer involves working closely with the Buying Manager and Manager Director and will involve managing a Horticultural Buying Assistant. A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a live-in couple to join a historic private estate in Devizes, Wiltshire. This opening would suit a couple with demonstrable experience in garden/estate maintenance and housekeeping respectively. A generous salary of £23,000 each is offered to candidates in addition a two-bedroom cottage on site with bills paid.

The impressive eight-bedroom main house is framed by an NGS registered, former RHS garden of six acres. The 300-year-old garden is currently managed by a full-time Skilled Gardener who will require assistance from time to time with basic tasks such as mowing and hedge cutting. The remainder of the estate maintenance duties will consist of non-horticultural tasks, i.e. DIY/handyman jobs on and inside the property buildings, occasional chauffeuring and general care of seven chickens and three dogs on site. Duties under the responsibility of the Housekeeper will consist of the upkeep of the main house by way of cleaning, laundry, weekly shopping and some preparation of food for one child. An exciting new role has arisen for a Horticultural Buying Assistant to work under the Senior Buyer within the small close-knit team on a full-time permanent basis. The position will focus on buying for Seeds, Cut Flower Bouquets and House Plant Gifts ranges and to play a key role in the next phase of the company’s growth.

Reporting directly to the Senior Buyer, the role will involve administration associated with the department as well as the proactive management and implementation of company initiatives. Typical duties include completing Buying Sheets each season, requesting quotes from suppliers and collating product information from suppliers, and preparing sheets for sign off by Senior Buyer. The responsibility for checking invoices and credits each week against agreed cost prices will be fall within the post holder’s remit, as will the responsibility to resolve queries before passing to the accounts team.
