Head Gardener - Live Out - EC4216

A superb opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head Gardener who has excellent plant knowledge and wide-ranging horticultural skills to supervise a team of 2/3 gardeners in managing the garden and grounds of a Grade 2 listed country estate in South Warwickshire. The garden is approximately 10 acres in size and has a number of themes such as walled garden, orchard, open parkland, wild flower meadows and extensive water garden. The garden is open to the public for an annual NGS open day and other private events.

Applicants will need to demonstrate comprehensive hands on experience in a similar role managing a large private garden to the highest of standards. Therefore you will ideally have a horticultural qualification to minimum of RHS level 2 and ability to manage the grounds with minimal supervision. Your primary responsibility will be the upkeep of various different compartments of the garden with an emphasis on the greenhouse and borders.

The owners are keen gardeners and work alongside current staff and wish to maintain the happy working environment that exists in the garden. Applicants will therefore need to be able to work not only with the owners but also alongside the two other grounds staff as team work is paramount. Part of the role would also be working with the gardeners to share and teach new skills as they are both keen to learn and develop their knowledge.

Other key attributes for the role are enthusiasm, sense of humour and pride in your work.

Whilst the garden is well established there are a number of ongoing projects meaning that the appointed Head Gardener will need to be flexible in his or her approach to work and willing to adapt to regular change and variation in the garden work as it is regarded by the owner as a ‘Garden in Motion’.
