Our client operates five of the largest destination garden centres in the southeast of England. The centre is a premium garden centre offering garden plants, houseplants, garden furniture, clothing, gifts and a large restaurant.

This role is at the heart of everything we do, you’ll be collaborating with the Trading Team and wider Garden Centre on a daily basis to support the smooth running of our centre. You will supervise the Plant team and departments to ensure high standards of customer service, maximise profit and minimise losses.

You will work with the Trading Manager in building horticultural knowledge within the Plant Team to assist our customers. You will be a trusted member of our leadership team, acting as a Key-holder and required to be Duty Manager on occasion. It goes without saying that customer service is essential to this role, and you will embed a high standard of both internal and external customer service in your team. You’ll be passionate about supporting your team, and involved in the recruitment, induction, and ongoing training of your people to deliver our high standards.

Our client is currently recruiting grounds/landscaper maintenance operatives to join their expanding business in New Build, Commercial and POS Schemes. The team carry out new build projects in Berkshire, Surrey, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, and Oxfordshire, and this encompasses the maintenance agreements on completion of the sites.  They also carry out maintenance to a number of commercial schemes. 

Candidate Experience/Qualifications:
  • Minimum 12 months experience

  • You will need a driving license to be considered for this position
  • General organisation of day to day operations.
  • Physically fit and dexterous.

Part Time Skilled Gardener

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a part-time Skilled Gardener to maintain a stunning private garden near Lingfield, Surrey. This position would suit a dedicated and knowledgeable plants person with strong horticultural skills and fine attention to detail, that appreciate working for friendly employers who enjoy their garden. This position is offered to experienced gardeners in the locality, on the basis of 3 days per week on a PAYE basis to keep the gardens maintained to a high standard.

The Grade II* listed Tudor manor dates back to the 15th century and has been home to the family over 40 years and is currently home to the 2nd generation.  The property is encompassed by 50-acres of farmland, woodland, paddocks and 5-acres of formal garden. Within the gardens are formal lawns, herbaceous borders, topiary, yew hedging, rose garden, orchard with a variety of ancient trees, ponds, and a conservatory growing a variety of produce.

The ideal candidate for this role will be knowledgeable and experienced, holding a recognised horticultural qualification with experience working within a similar environment, with a PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates and chainsaw licence. Demonstrable skill and experience in all aspects of garden care is essential, as is knowledge of garden management, good time management skills, self-start attitude and attention to detail. This is a private, family residence therefore applicants must be friendly, loyal, be trustworthy, self-motivated and interested in assisting with ongoing development of the garden through discussions with the owner (especially with the addition of topiary). Applicants must be physically fit and capable of carrying out a wide range of manual tasks in all weathers. The owners have pets on site; therefore, the successful applicant should be comfortable with cats and small dogs.

Occasionally the Skilled Gardener will be required to help on the wider estate, woodlands or other tasks requested by the owners, so flexibility within the role is necessary. Additional ad hoc tasks may occur and will include but are not limited to, helping set up for any events or functions at the property, pathway clearance, wood chopping, helping with woodland management (excluding tree felling), tree guard/pergola maintenance and other such tasks.

This is a permanent position based on 3 days per week, with working hours 8:00am – 5:00pm which can be flexible dependent on the season. The owners are flexible as to which days during the week the Skilled Gardener will be working, this can be discussed with the principles upon appointment. We are seeking a Junior Groundsperson to join our almost 300 acre estate which comprises of woodland, grazing field, gardens and lakes.

You would be working with the Groundsman in the extensive grounds at a Country Estate based near Salisbury.  The position will be varied, to include but not limited to -  logging, chipping, mowing, fencing, groundworks, building maintenance and repair.

You may have relevant qualifications and experience in a similar role with proficiency in operating power tools, hand tools and knowledge of basic repair techniques, however we welcome candidates who are looking to gain experience or someone looking for an opportunity to get into horticulture but we’re just as interested in those who are enthusiastic about working outside, have a keen eye for detail and take real pride in their work. You’ll be a really flexible and positive person and must have a driving licence.

40 hours per week (Mon-Fri) with a half hour lunch break daily. Exact times tbc but would probably be 7am-4pm.

A rare and attractive opportunity has arisen for an experienced Gardener to work on a three day a week basis in Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire.  A three-bedroom house is provided within the grounds for the successful applicant. Candidates should hold an academic horticultural qualification (ideally at level 3 or higher) and have extensive gardening experience on private estates.

This beautiful Georgian property in the Chilterns is surrounded by four acres of mature garden; one third of which includes a kitchen garden, although the majority of this area is now surplus to requirement. An additional one-acre paddock is located adjacent to the site and is mown regularly. A hot and cold greenhouse, cut flowers area, fruit trees, fruit cages and small vegetable plots provide small amounts of produce when in season, all of which would benefit from your expertise and assistance.  The garden also contains mature yew, beech and mixed hedging, extensive lawn areas, mature trees, herbaceous borders, wall-trained roses and a swimming pool. The client is a keen horticulturist and will be directly involved in terms of the overall estate plan, whilst also being strongly receptive to your advice and expertise.

Candidates must be willing to undertake additional duties such as the repairing of fruit cages, fences, filling potholes in the driveway and feeding and cleaning out the chickens once a month etc. where required.  The client is abroad for 13 weeks of the year (approximately 2 weeks at a time), during which they require the new employee to take care of their small friendly dog in the provided house as well as the property in general. Dog owners are more than welcome to apply, and applicants must be animal friendly; the owner has a small dog in addition to their chickens.  Your responsibility for site security when the client is away during the day/evenings and when abroad, is paramount.

Job Description

Purpose of Job:

  • To assist the Operations Manager with high-quality maintenance and care of Edgwarebury Cemetery.
  • To assist the Operations Manager in the delivery of graveside services including excavation and back-filling of graves with diplomacy, empathy and understanding during contact with the bereaved and with the public in general.
Organisation

Edgwarebury Jewish Cemetery opened in 1973 and the first burial took place in 1975. The Cemetery is managed by the Edgwarebury Joint Burial Board (EJBB) on behalf of the S&P Sephardi Community, West London Synagogue, Liberal Judaism, and Belsize Square Synagogue. The EJBB comprises of members from all four communities and is responsible for the general running and maintenance of the cemetery grounds.

Role Specific Responsibilities
  • To assist in, and complete the excavation of graves, including the preparation of the grave for burial and back-filling, using manual and mechanical excavation equipment as required.
  • To prepare graves for memorial consecrations.
  • To complete grounds maintenance operations including planting, pruning, weeding, spraying, grass cutting, hedge cutting, clearing litter and refuse, and landscaping.
  • To provide other grounds maintenance operations as required including memorial stone cleaning and renovations for which full training will be provided.
  • Drive a range of vehicles/plant as required and maintain in accordance with manufacturers schedules.
  • In addition to the usual range of tools and equipment, the use of powered tools, hedge cutters, generators, mechanical water pumps and light plant is required.
  • To maintain garage and container storage facilities in an orderly, satisfactory condition.
  • To undertake all mandatory training determined appropriate by the Operations Manager and Cemetery Director.
  • To give advice and direction to members of the public when appropriate, positively promoting the services delivered.
  • To provide a visible presence, preventing and reporting facility misuse.
  • To ensure that all work is performed in a safe and timely manner.
Flexibility
  • The post holder may be required to provide other duties to support the requirements of the Operations Manager. These will be consistent with the post and grade.
  • To carry out duties outdoors exposed to all weather conditions, including changes of temperature, wind, rain and snow etc. in accordance with EJBB guidelines.
  • Work hours will be required to be varied to attend to scheduled and unscheduled work demands.
Communication
  • The post holder is required to communicate effectively with staff, funeral directors, contractors, stone masons and site visitors. They are required to accurately receive, act upon and report information.
  • The post holder must also communicate effectively with colleagues and members of the public including the bereaved in an honest and sensitive manner.

Part Time Skilled Gardener

Other duties will include the use of a wide range of garden machinery. Applicants will ideally possess an academic horticultural qualification, such as RHS level 2 or equivalent, or be looking to engage in an academic programme to obtain the qualification to assist in furthering your knowledge.

The job is, of necessity outdoors, with the requirement to work in all weathers and is physically demanding. A self-motivated, enthusiastic individual with a strong work ethic, ability to work within a small and friendly team and willingness to work to consistently high standards are qualities which are essential for this role.
