The purpose of the role is to support the delivery of the Trusts plans to grow produce commercially and will require someone to work flexibly to achieve this.You will provide overall planning, direction, and control to the growing of produce across the Trust, which can be used in its own school kitchens.

Overall scope of the role: A hands on role, you'll need to: undertake all aspects of husbandry and production including preparation, growing, and harvesting. manage pest, disease and weed control programmes to ensure hygiene and health standards are met and provide guidance to site-based teams and volunteers.

Main Duties:

1.     To create a growing plan, clearly identifying which crops will be planted where and at what times throughout the year.

2.     Plan and run transparent lines in polytunnels as products change throughout the year.

3.     Day to day tasks; plant, water, weed, prune, feed, and spray plants.

4.     To keep informed of current legislation, statutory and other guidance relating to crop and pest management.

5.     Work in conjunction with the Trust to manage produce supply chain systems and supporting infrastructure for processing, storage, and transportation of produce.

6.     Support the Trust in analysing yields and operational costs.

7.     Undertake technical visits and demonstrations for pupils.

8.     Train, instruct and supervise others (dependent on role)

9.     Keep up to date with developments within the horticultural sector.

10.  To collate and provide regular, accurate and timely data on the success of the growing programme.

11.  To act in accordance with Trust policies at all times, ensuring a high standard of professionalism which demonstrates the expectations of the Enquire Learning trust.

12.  To contribute to the overall Trust strategy to ensure the best possible provision for pupils.

13.  To support the academies with the potential the tunnels provide to enrich the curriculum and aid the school staff and pupils with their growing projects.

14.  To develop links with local communities to promote growing food, healthy eating, and well-being and to access local knowledge, expertise and voluntary support.

Gardener

A self-motivated gardener is sought after to maintain the gardens of our client’s main residence as well as three other properties owned by the client within a 5-mile radius of each other near Richmond, Yorkshire.

The mature gardens of the 1-acre main property are made up of large herbaceous, perennial and some annual boarders, lawn, hedges and a pond with a water feature. The other properties have smaller gardeners (about 300 – 500 square feet) with lawns and mixed and herbaceous borders. There is also a green in the middle of a couple of the properties which would need the lawn cutting.

The gardener will be self-sufficient and excellent at managing their own time across the properties. Good communication skills is also important and is someone who interacts well with others. Other responsibilities include grounds work, small handyman jobs / household repairs and occasional driving. They should also be dog friendly as part of the role will consist of walking the owners two spaniel dogs every morning.

The owners are looking for a reliable and hardworking all rounded gardener with a good personality seeking their next long-term opportunity. A sense of humour and positive attitude is also important to the client. The successful candidate will have good horticultural knowledge for all areas mentioned above and ideally hold a horticultural qualification. Good lawn care is essential as is the ability to operate a range of garden machinery including a ride on motor, strimmer and the usual garden machinery. It would also be beneficial but not essential to hold a PA1 and PA6A pesticide and herbicide spraying licence. A UK driving licence and own vehicle is essential.
