Skilled Gardener

A rare opportunity has arisen for a Skilled Gardener to the work closely with the current Head Gardener upon a stunning, 40 acre Estate near Shipston-on-Stour. The owners are now seeking an experienced and knowledgeable individual to assist in the maintenance and development of the gardens throughout the ongoing period of enhancement in a full-time capacity.

Set within the large estate, the stunning house is surrounded by 4 acres of naturistic style gardens with some more formal elements within. The current owners purchased the property 8 years ago, with the gardens being relandscaped with the assistance of a landscape architect and are now mid-way through their development.  Currently, the gardens feature a modest vegetable garden, mixed borders, large lawns, parterre, formal yellow garden and a Ha-ha. Future development includes the implementation of a large orangery, topiary, greenhouse and the rejuvenation of a variety of planting, including the addition of a large selection of roses. In addition, planning is currently being sought to extend the gardens further in the near future.

Our client is now seeking an experienced and knowledgeable gardener to work alongside the small team of 3 Part Time gardeners, and under the guidance of the Head Gardener assist in the continued maintenance and development of the gardens, having a creative eye alongside attention to detail in order to get the very best out of the gardens. Alongside this maintenance, the role will also include planting, pruning, feeding, and training of a variety of planting including roses, perennials, shrubs and climbers. Knowledge of lawn maintenance to a high standard is necessary, such as the use of a variety of associated tools and machinery.

Applicants must have demonstratable experience in a similar private estate setting, while demonstrating a positive, hardworking attitude in order to fit in to the existing team seamlessly, who have a strong relationship with the owners. A relevant horticultural qualification is desirable but not essential, with tickets such as PA1/PA6 and chainsaw certificates would be advantageous, but again not essential. The successful candidate will be a conscious individual who takes pride in their work and is able to complete tasks to a high standard in a tidy and accurate manner.

Please note, the successful candidate will be subject to a DBS check.
