Established in the 1960s, Boningale Nurseries has grown to become one of the leading suppliers to the British landscaping industry. From our 40-acre container site in Shropshire, we produce and contract-grow a huge variety of Shrubs, Specimens and Trees, which is supplemented with specialised stock from our trusted network of UK and European-based suppliers.

Boningale Nurseries propagate 80% of the in-house production, producing 1 million plugs per year, predominantly cuttings and seed production.

Due to the exciting expansion and new development of our Propagation unit we have a vacancy for a Propagation Supervisor to join our small and friendly team based in Codsall Wood, South Staffordshire.

You will provide support to the Propagation Manager in the day to day running of the propagation department.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to develop a career within the field of Propagation.

Job Responsibilities:

-To take responsibility for the daily care of the propagation mist unit.

-To work from production plans to meet the production requirements of the business.

-To supervise a team of propagators.

-Continually improving the efficiency of the propagation processes and labour efficiency.

-To collect plant material for the propagating team in a timely manner from young stock and planted out mother stocks.

-To have good understanding of the principles and practices of Horticulture, regarding irrigation requirements, pest and disease identification, plant husbandry and the cultural care of plants within the propagation department.

-Follow plant protection programme set up the Propagation manager and apply pesticides and biological control and herbicides within the department.

-Prepare plugs for the despatch to other company sites.

-To support the Propagation manager in stock control inventory and inputting production numbers on to database.

Attributes Required:

-Good organisational skills and attention to detail.

-The ability to work with a team, supervise and motivate the team.

-Ideally to have good propagation knowledge and techniques working at commercially acceptable rates, full training will be given.

-Good administration and IT skills, including experience with Microsoft Office.

-Excellent communication skills and self-motivated.

-Willing to learn new processes – running a seeding machine.

-Driving license is essential due to the requirement to travel between sites.

-Reliable, trustworthy, and positive attitude.

-Enthusiastic, practical, and driven with an eye for detail.

-A knowledge of P&D identification and the ability and certification to PA1 & PA6, training will be given to the right candidate.

Working Hours:39 hours per week, 8.00 am – 5.00 pm Monday to Thursday 8.00am – 4.00pm Friday. Rota for weekend site checks will be required.

Job Description:

The Nursery Manager will lead the nursery and production operations across multiple growing sites.

Main Duties:

-Producing production plans to meet the needs of the business

-Responsibility for plant health, production, and stock rotation

-Implement and maintain systems and process to assist in the efficiencies and compliance of the department

-Manage budget and produce plants in line with company targets

-Attend and contribute to monthly management meetings

-Responsible for upkeep of irrigation system and growing structures.

-Managing the stocks cultural requirements, ie weeding, feeding, pruning, spraying tying etc.

-Ensure commercially viable hands on effective and safe supervision of team members under your supervision.

-Maintain quality and appearance of stock on cash & carry site

-Ensuring company Quality standards are adhered to.

-Make sure that the nursery is always tidy and looks appealing to visiting customers.

-Report to the management team on progress against targets (KPIs) and any issues arising and possible solutions.

-Understanding and implementing Health & Safety, Environmental and other Regulatory procedures when necessary.

-Identify and ensure delivery of appropriate training requirements.

-Ensure all equipment is maintained and stored safely.

The funeral ceremony hall sits in 12 acres of grass and woodlands which is home to a wide variety of animal species. Most of the land has been kept unspoilt and we aim to encourage more wildlife through careful habitat management.

Within this space sits The Fair Lady Memorial Gardens, offering a beautiful setting for families to relax after a funeral service or to visit in the days after the service with attractive walks and spaces for quiet contemplation and remembering.

We are looking for a 5th member of our successful team to help us present our memorial gardens and other outside space at the crematorium in a way which reflects the excellent standards of care we offer bereaved families. The space must offer a sense of tranquillity for families looking to spend time here reflecting and remembering.

We know that for many families choosing a lasting memorial tribute to someone special is an important part of the grieving process. Working closely with the Management team you will develop creative, sensitive memorial areas for families.

You will also play a key role in our environmental policy developing wildlife habitats to encourage birds, mammals and insects to visit the ‘natural’ areas of the site.

The successful candidate will be happy to undertake the training required to obtain a cremator technician licence allowing them to cover the cremation process during holidays and busy periods.

We are a small team and we need every member to be ready to cover every role within the business.

The formal gardens have recently been re-landscaped, and the owners are looking to invest in their garden. They require an experience gardener with a passion for development to redevelop the garden.

The garden currently consists of a kitchen garden with ornamental trees and box hedges, an orchard with apple trees, extensive lawns, a variety of mature trees and a small patch of roses that the owners would like to develop further. An area of focus for the role will be creating and planting flower beds and borders to bring colour to the garden.

The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience in all areas of private estate gardening/horticulture and estate maintenance.  Although the more technical aspects of this role will be horticulturally focussed, the position will involve additional hands-on duties such as assisting with general estate DIY, patio washing, etc.

Applicants must have excellent plant knowledge, ideally hold a level 2 or above horticultural qualification, excellent attention to detail and a methodological approach to their work.  Demonstrable experience in the above areas is essential, as is competency in the operation and basic farm and garden machinery; ride-on and pedestrian mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers, blowers, chainsaws etc.  Spraying qualifications (PA1/PA6) and chainsaw certification would be an advantage and a full UK driving licence is essential.  

Good physical fitness is important, and applicants must be tidy in their work, presentable, positive in attitude and a good team player. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated gardener with the experience, knowledge and enjoys developing a garden to a high standard.

SALARY:       £28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience
