This is an important role within the Construction division of our clients business, working with the soft landscaping team to bring design-led horticultural visions to life. The successful candidate will need to be dynamic, positive and highly motivated. They will also be a collaborative team worker, able to take direction, whilst ensuring the delivery of consistent quality work in line with project specifications and deadlines. The candidate will need to support the Soft Landscaping Foreman, as well as working cooperatively with hard landscaping colleagues, designers, sub-contractors and other stakeholders

Responsibilities include:
  • Actioning site design plans to ensure the horticultural elements are delivered as prescribed
  • Maintaining and managing all horticultural elements on site to ensure sustained good health
  • Turfing and its maintenance
  • Tree planting - working alongside specialists where required

Be responsible for stock control within your department including ordering, stocking up, receiving of products following the required procedure, quality control and clearance of slow-moving lines.

Ensure that product prices are in line with budgeted gross margin figures.

Essential requirements
  • Recognised horticultural qualification with the ability to demonstrate good plant knowledge – this is a strong preference, but not essential if experience is proven
  • Driving licence as sites may not be accessible via public transport
  • CSCS card
  • Competent in using the appropriate power tools where required
  • Certificates in spraying (PA1 PA6)
  • Good awareness of Health & Safety and implementing procedure

They need to have a proven record of accomplishment in delivering high-end soft landscaping projects in line with exacting specification.

They will also need to be a collaborative team worker, able to lead a soft landscaping team, whilst liaising effectively with other stakeholders such as landscape architects, garden designers, hard landscaping foremen, subcontractors, and clients. The candidate will need to organise horticultural resources alongside the overall Site Foreman and the company’s Plant Procurement Specialist to deliver an effective and timely service. Ensuring superb quality in terms of plant / tree health whilst on site is key to realising the garden vision.

Responsibilities include:
  • Reading and actioning site design plans to ensure the horticultural elements are delivered as prescribed
  • Managing landscaping staff on site
  • Reporting to the Contracts Manager and Contracts Director with proven ability to deliver on business objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Liaising and communicating with all external stakeholders whilst sensitively managing those relationships
  • Maintaining and managing all horticultural elements on site to ensure sustained good health
  • Turfing and its maintenance
  • Tree planting - working alongside specialists where required

Requirements for the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Recognised horticultural qualification – able to demonstrate excellent plant knowledge which will be tested on interview
  • Full clean UK driving licence
  • CSCS card
  • Competent in using the appropriate power tools where required
  • Certificates in spraying (PA1 PA6),and Ride-on Mowers would be an advantage but not essential
  • Excellent awareness of Health & Safety and implementing procedures.

Head Gardener

We seek suitable applications for the position of Head Gardener on a private gated residential development in Southwest London.

The 12-acre arts and crafts influenced gardens still has remnants dating back to the late 18th Century and forms one of the largest private gardens in London. There are extensive lawns and pathways, as well as many planted borders, shrubberies, yew hedges, woodland, cherry trees, a sunken garden surrounding a formal pond as well as a fruit orchard the gardens are regularly assessed in order to plan their future development and improvement.

As Head Gardener you will lead and manage a small team of up to 4 full time and 1 part time gardeners, in ensuring that the gardens are maintained to a high standard throughout the year, as well as helping to shape the future of the gardens as part of the long-term development plan.

Applicants must be qualified to a minimum of RHS Level 3/4 Horticulture or equivalent, with a good working knowledge of plants, combined with good all-round craft gardening skills and experience of working with a wide range of garden machinery. You should also hold PA1/6 sprayers certificates and have good IT skills. He/she will be a self-starter able to plan and prioritise daily workloads and come with previous experience of managing a small team. Excellent man management skills are essential in order to ensure that you develop an effective team able to produce top quality work. It is also important that you have a good understanding of relevant health and safety legislation, with the ability to carry out risk assessments. A current full driving licence is essential.

Accommodation is 1 bedroom with all bills paid. You will be expected to share emergency weekend duty with the estate manager i.e: every other weekend.

The Role

They currently have a vacancy for a Grounds Maintenance Team Leader. The successful candidate will be in charge of a small team of gardeners responsible for the maintenance of approximately 15 high end gardens for corporate and business clients. You and your team will normally visit 3 sites per day carrying out general garden maintenance duties which will include – mowing, strimming, pruning, weeding, bed preparation and maintenance, replanting as required, leaf clearance, mulching plus general site tidiness. You will be provided with a company van and full range of tools and equipment to carry out your work.

The Applicant

He/she must have previous experience of working within a similar role and have good practical skills in the full range of garden maintenance duties. This should be combined with reasonable plant knowledge, and good man management and communication skills able to organise and delegate the daily work duties efficiently within your team, as well as liaising with clients as required. You should be hard working, with a good eye for detail and be familiar with the safe operation and routine maintenance of most types of garden machinery.

You should have a current full driving licence. The normal working week will be 44hrs plus overtime, holiday entitlement will be 20 days plus 8 days bank holidays.
