An excellent opportunity has arisen for a Maintenance Gardener to join a well-respected award-winning company in London. The company has been responsible for numerous very high-profile projects throughout the city for many years and are currently expanding their maintenance arm, leading to an increasing number of high-profile contracts. The company has recently secured a new, long-term, large maintenance contract in southeast London. They are seeking an experienced Gardener, working as part of the existing site team. In addition to a competitive salary, the client will generously pay for the travel expenses of the successful candidate.
Main Responsibilities:
The client is seeking a dedicated and experienced Maintenance Gardener to join the team at their site near Elephant and Castle. The successful candidate will be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the landscaped areas, ensuring the site remains a beautiful, safe and welcoming environment for visitors. Our client is seeking an individual who is hard-working, knowledgeable, willing to learn and have good time keeping. Candidates will have the ability to work as part of a team or individually under their own initiative.
Duties will include but are not limited to the following:
- Carry out regular maintenance tasks such as mowing, weeding, pruning, and trimming to ensure all landscaped areas are kept in optimal condition.
- Water, fertilise, and provide care to plants, shrubs, trees, and lawns, ensuring their health and vitality.
- Assist in planting seasonal flowers, shrubs, and trees in accordance with the site’s landscape design plan.
- Identify and manage pests and diseases, using appropriate methods to maintain plant health.
- Ensure the site is kept clean by removing litter and managing garden waste appropriately.
- Perform basic repairs and maintenance to hard landscaping features such as pathways, edging, and garden furniture.
- Monitor and maintain irrigation systems to ensure efficient water use and plant health.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself, team members and the public.
- Regularly report to the Head Gardener on the status of the site, including any issues or improvements needed.
Key Skills:
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, having the ability to work under their own initiative while taking pride in their work and completing tasks to a high standard throughout all tasks on the large site. An understanding of Health and Safety regulations is essential. A PA1/PA6 spraying certificate would be desirable, however not essential.
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of experience in landscape/garden maintenance or a similar role.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of plants, horticultural practices, and landscape maintenance techniques.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform physical tasks in various weather conditions.
- Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to maintain high standards of garden aesthetics.
- Communication: Good communication skills to work effectively with the team and report to the supervisor.
- Certification: Relevant horticultural qualifications (e.g., RHS Level 2) are desirable but not essential.

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Gardener to join the Botany Manager whose role is to renovate and maintain the school’s historic Botany Garden, woodlands, and ponds.
Working in collaboration with the Grounds team you will demonstrate the motivation, organisation and commitment required to maintain and improve the beautiful botany gardens and ponds.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for garden maintenance as directed by the Botany Manager.
- Support the Botany Manager with renovating the ponds and botany beds.
- Weeding, watering, feeding and plant care
- Pruning roses, fruit and climbers
- Training and staking of plants
- Planting
- Sowing seeds and taking cuttings
- Composting as much garden waste as possible
- Hedge maintenance
- Any other general garden maintenance
- Helping others with their areas where needed
- Produce cut flowers for displays at various school events.
- Assistant with the kitchen waste composting strategy
- Supporting the Botany Gardens Manager to prepare for practical teaching sessions in the gardens
- Increase the biodiversity of the school site and encourage wildlife through planting and landscaping of the botany gardens.
- Identification and control of pests and diseases within an integrated pest management plan.
- Clearance of Leaves and general garden keeping.
- Developing and maintaining positive working relationships across the school.
- Commitment to developing yourself within your role – undergoing training where necessary.
- Ensuring you comply with all relevant Health and Safety and Environment (HSE) practices and procedures, as outlined in the Health and Safety Policy.
- Ensuring you and others around team abide by all schools policies and procedures – reporting incidents when necessary.
- Proactively promoting and maintaining high standards across the school – taking initiative to resolve and/or draw attention to areas that don’t meet required standards or any issues that arise.

Our client is an established company of landscape professionals who specialise in the field of garden design, landscape construction and garden care/maintenance for both residential and commercial clients. They are BALI registered and ISO 9001 certified. Due to continued expansion, the company are in search of knowledgeable gardeners at all levels; from assistant to skilled/senior, on a full-time permanent and fully employed basis. A generous salary will be offered in line with experience.
Applicants should have comprehensive hands-on experience in garden care and maintenance and an ability to carry out the finer aspects of horticulture, such as species-specific pruning, as well as the more physically demanding tasks. Applicants will be willing to work on their own initiative as well as under direction where necessary. Senior gardeners will be responsible for a team of three assistants, and assistant gardeners will work within a small team under the direction of a senior gardener. Successful applicants will be based primarily on a single large estate, with other sites include high-end new build properties throughout South East London.
Candidates for this position will ideally hold an academic horticultural qualification, with PA1/PA6 spray certificates being required of senior gardeners. Good plant knowledge is required, as is an ability to ensure safe and efficient use of a range of gardening machinery. Senior Gardeners are required to hold a full driving licence.

Duties:
Your principle responsibility will be to visit the main site daily basis from Monday to Friday working in a small team of 3 maintaining the newly developed gardens/grounds to a high standard. Duties will include -

Essential Qualities:
- Horticultural knowledge

- Prepared to work flexible hours
- Be motivated and capable of undertaking all aspects of gardens and grounds work with its physical challenges.
