Position Overview:

As the Grounds Facilities Manager, you will lead, motivate and develop the Grounds and Maintenance teams, to ensure that the park and gardens are maintained to a high standard all year round, with a genuine enthusiasm to help our families.

Strong leadership skills are required to achieve and deliver park objectives. The Grounds Facilities Manager, will ideally be from a landscape or horticultural background who will champion and promote exceptional customer service, within the teams they are managing.

Diary management and effective planning around required works are essential. Plus, providing support and guidance to your teams to achieve high volume output and productivity.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Ensure the Grounds team consistently promotes the highest standard of professional customer service
  • All customer queries and complaints handled in a timely and compassionate manner and tracked via the operating system
  • Seek out opportunities to improve the parks environmental credentials
  • Ensure a 5-star first impression is created for customers through ensuring the park always looks its best 365 days a year
  • Ensure the effective delivery of services to Group standards and values
  1. GROUNDS
  • Ensure the Grounds team maintain the grounds to a prestige, distinctive and contemporary standard.
  • Lead the team to effectively perform all funeral – related duties to our WOW standards as expected by our customers, such as digging and backfilling of graves, preparing ash interments, maintenance of the park, and project work.
  • Manage facilities and maintain vehicles and site equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and legislations ensuring that best practice is adopted.
  • Responsible for the development, coordination, and delivery of all ground’s projects in the park in conjunction with the Park Director.
  1. SALES AND MARKETING
  • Play a key role in delivering sales targets through effective delivery of all activities and landscaping projects.
  • Liaise with the Service Manager and Park Director to ensure that stock levels are maintained at an appropriate level.
  • Work closely with the Service Manager and Park Director to ensure all customer events are delivered successfully.
  • Deliver the community engagement strategy for long term growth.
  • Input into the continuous development of new products and services for the site.
  1. PEOPLE MANAGEMENT
  • Play a key role to lead on our One Team One Group values and behaviours.
  • Effective calendar management to plan grounds team resourcing and activity.
  • Lead, motivate and develop the grounds team to deliver on KPIs.
  • Develop the team through coaching, training, e-learning and providing external training as required.
  • Meet regularly with the team supervisors to provide, guidance, support and training as required.
  • Follow the annual appraisal process for all members of the grounds team and set SMART, aligned objectives for them.
  • Manage all grounds recruitment as required in conjunction with the Park Director and HR.
  • Ensure the retention of quality colleagues
  • Follow group policies and procedures as required for any Employee Relations cases.
  1. FINANCE AND ADMINISTRATION
  • Manage the grounds budget effectively including Purchase Order System and salary budget management.
  • Drive efficiencies within the operational areas to meet targets and manage costs.
  • Utilise available systems to create continuous efficiencies and ensure lean ways of working.
  • Adherence to all internal central and operational processes.
  • Lead on the effective use of operating system to map the site. Locate stock and allocate task.
  1. HEALTH, SAFETY AND SECURITY
  • Ensure colleagues are adhering to all Health and Safety procedures
  • Responsible for internal audit compliance
  • Ensure overall security of the site
  • If required and trained deliver first aid and follow the correct health and safety procedures to ensure own safety.
Essential Skills:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Must be able to demonstrate people led management.
  • Experience working either in landscaping or horticultural (ideally with a horticultural qualification).
  • A passion for supporting our families and community, always showing empathy and respect.
  • Computer literate/data entry – (training will be provided on our internal systems).
  • Driving License required.

Tasks will include day to day monitoring of the crop and environmental systems (PRIVA), crop work from planting to harvest and preparing the greenhouse for the next crop. Sole Gardener

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full time Sole Gardener to assist with the maintenance and future developments of the grounds and gardens for a stunning site based near Bromley.

The property is owned by a charitable organisation that has been providing residential care for over 300-years and is dedicated to maintaining beautiful gardens that contribute to their resident’s well-being and quality of life. The 5-acre site contains a wealth of diverse horticultural elements including a central quadrangle that features herbaceous borders, shrubs and bedding plants, putting lawn and fishpond. Other elements include formal lawns, box topiary, wildflowers, strip trees and raised beds.

The successful candidate will initially be based at the charity’s headquarters located only 7 miles away, so they can meet and get to know the wider horticultural team, before moving over to the other site. The substantial gardens make up much of the 11-acres at headquarters, wrapping around the various and historic buildings, instilling a relaxed and homely feel for the beneficiaries, staff and visitors alike. The award-winning gardens feature sweeping lawns, box topiary, lily pond and box parterre. Also on site is a rose garden, memorial garden, woodland walk and allotment areas which allow the residents to grow fruit and vegetables and produce honey from on-site beehives.  

Reporting to the Gardens Manager, the Sole Gardener will be responsible for all aspects of garden care and ornamental horticulture as well as lawn maintenance, operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery and any other horticultural duties that may arise. There is considerable scope for development of the grounds and gardens and the Gardens Manager is open to new ideas with regards to developing new areas, getting the residents involved with the gardening, operating tours and workshops etc.

The successful candidate will have excellent horticultural knowledge with a recognised horticultural qualification being highly desirable. A minimum of 3 years’ professional experience in the horticultural sector with plenty of hands-on experience, as well as a good understanding of a wide variety of landscape strategies combined with a strong knowledge of plants. A demonstratable ability to establish and sustain a good working relationship with the clients residents and horticultural team, as well as holding the initiative to work alone with excellent communication and customer service skills.

Job Description

  • Assist ad train staff in developing their product knowledge with regards to specialist product areas.
  • Aid with the day-to-day running of the whole centre when asked by the Assistant Manager or Centre Manager including key holding, security and cash handling duties reporting any discrepancies.

Where you’ll work: This role is based at Hadlow College.

Your hours: 29.6 hours per week, 52 weeks per annum (FTE 0.8).

Your pay: Spine Points 32C (£28,000 full time equivalent) to 37 (£35,104 full time equivalent), rising to a ceiling of Spine Point 39 (£37,251 full time equivalent) with a full teaching qualification.

Working within North Kent College’s Horticulture curriculum area, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a suitability qualified, experienced and passionate individual to join the team as a Lecturer in Horticulture .

The horticulture department at Hadlow has invested heavily in new facilities to support the faculty including a new Venlo glasshouse, hydroponic facilities, vertical growing unit, innovative orchard and vineyard and specialist machinery to support including harvesters, robotic sprayers and drone technology.

You’ll be required to prepare, teach and assess at a variety of qualification levels, providing support and guidance to your learners as they progress through their studies.

Specialist knowledge in a field of horticulture would be advantageous, which may be enhanced by any relevant industry / professional experience, as well as a formal qualification that underpins this knowledge .

We need you to be a team player and an excellent communicator, able to maintain a proactive approach and an eye for detail whilst working to challenging deadlines.

Teaching experience, particularly within Further Education, would be advantageous but isn’t essential. Likewise, although a full teaching qualification (at Level 5 or above) isn’t required at this stage, you would need to secure this within 3 years of appointment.

In return, we’ll give you 42 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays (pro rata for part time contracts), and you’ll be enrolled onto the Teachers’ Pension Scheme which also includes life assurance. Our client has a well -established Garden Centre with a core focus on plants. 80% of the plants on sale are grown within their own nurseries and this allows them to keep their prices competitive. Customer satisfaction is a priority, and they pride themselves on the great team they have built offering fantastic customer service and plant advice.  They are currently looking for a knowledgeable and passionate plantsperson to manage the outside sales area, supporting and leading the existing team of knowledgeable staff.

Job Description:

Duties and responsibilities would include the following:

  • Supervision of staff
  • Good communication with Nursery Managers to keep up to date with product availability and planning the season to ensure plants are available for sale when most saleable.
  • Stock control and maximizing sales opportunities through themed displays.
  • Over see and assist with the general housekeeping ensuring the sales area is well presented.
  • Engaging with customers, offering plant advice and help to create a good customer experience.
  • Duty management responsibilities of the garden centre as required
Key Skills:

Candidates will ideally have the following:

  • Great communication skills
  • Leadership and supervisory experience
  • Good plant knowledge and passion for plants and horticulture
  • Ability to be creative and create eye catching displays
  • Good organisation skills

Ideally candidates will have management experience within the garden centre retail sector. However, above all else, the candidate needs to have good customer service skills, supplemented with a good and varied plant knowledge. Therefore, candidates will be considered with applicable experience from other horticultural backgrounds.
