Plant Area Assistant Manager required

We're seeking a plant area assistant manager to flourish in our award-winning GCA garden centre. We're looking for someone with the ability to deliver excellent retail standards with a flexible hard-working approach.

Essential skills
  • Organisational and motivational skills – to maximise all staff resources
  • Proven retail experience including – Merchandising, ranging, buying, stock control, margin control and sales building.
  • To lead by example
  • Time management
  • Prioritising, communicating and delivering targets and agreed strategies, including EPOS requirements.
  • Excellent communication with written records as required
  • Feedback with managers / directors
  • Active part of weekly managers meetings
  • Daily team meetings
  • Excellent people skills, able to listen to customers and colleagues and communicate clearly.
  • Positive attitude and application
  • Ability to deliver excellent retail standards / requirements as listed above, flexible hard-working approach – to achieve 80%+ in all categories via the Garden Centre Association inspection process.
  • Respectful approach to all Pughs policies including - health and safety, and use of staff uniforms
  • An openness to develop new skills and be an active part of new projects and development
  • Able to work some weekends and bank holidays on a rota basis
  • Confident use of telephones.
  • Lifting and manual work will be required – sometimes in inclement weather
  • Some basic I.T. skills may be required at times.
Desired skills (these can be further developed as you work within the team)
  • Plant and gardening knowledge,
  • Plant retail experience, merchandising of plants and associated products
  • Plant maintenance skills
