We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our multi award-winning client as a Soft Landscaper. This is an important role within the Construction division of our clients business, working with the soft landscaping team to bring design-led horticultural visions to life. The successful candidate will need to be dynamic, positive and highly motivated. They will also be a collaborative team worker, able to take direction, whilst ensuring the delivery of consistent quality work in line with project specifications and deadlines. The candidate will need to support the Soft Landscaping Foreman, as well as working cooperatively with hard landscaping colleagues, designers, sub-contractors and other stakeholders

Responsibilities include:
  • Actioning site design plans to ensure the horticultural elements are delivered as prescribed
  • Maintaining and managing all horticultural elements on site to ensure sustained good health
  • Turfing and its maintenance
  • Tree planting - working alongside specialists where required

Be responsible for stock control within your department including ordering, stocking up, receiving of products following the required procedure, quality control and clearance of slow-moving lines.

Ensure that product prices are in line with budgeted gross margin figures.

Essential requirements
  • Recognised horticultural qualification with the ability to demonstrate good plant knowledge – this is a strong preference, but not essential if experience is proven
  • Driving licence as sites may not be accessible via public transport
  • CSCS card
  • Competent in using the appropriate power tools where required
  • Certificates in spraying (PA1 PA6)

The candidate will need to organise horticultural resources alongside the overall Site Foreman and the company’s Plant Procurement Specialist to deliver an effective and timely service. Ensuring superb quality in terms of plant / tree health whilst on site is key to realising the garden vision.

Responsibilities include:
  • Reading and actioning site design plans to ensure the horticultural elements are delivered as prescribed
  • Managing landscaping staff on site
  • Reporting to the Contracts Manager and Contracts Director with proven ability to deliver on business objectives in a timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Liaising and communicating with all external stakeholders whilst sensitively managing those relationships
  • Maintaining and managing all horticultural elements on site to ensure sustained good health
  • Turfing and its maintenance
  • Tree planting - working alongside specialists where required

Requirements for the role include, but are not limited to:

  • Recognised horticultural qualification – able to demonstrate excellent plant knowledge which will be tested on interview
  • Full clean UK driving licence

Groundsperson

Our client is an 11-acre private estate, in central London, with historic buildings and beautiful grounds. They are looking for an energetic and enthusiastic Groundsperson with experience in greenkeeping to complement their small and close-knit gardening team.

The Groundsperson will mainly be responsible for maintaining the ornamental lawns to a high standard. He/she will also join the team in general gardening duties, when necessary, throughout the year. It is essential the candidate is highly motivated, with a ‘can-do’ attitude and skilled enough to be able to work unsupervised.

The following list of duties is indicative of the nature of the post. Priorities, timescales and standards will be set in agreement with management.

  • Maintenance of the grounds using pedestrian and ride on mowers.
  • Renovation of grass areas by applying fertilisers, scarifying, and aerating and other spring and autumn lawncare activities.
  • Control of lawn pests and diseases.
  • Irrigation of lawns using portable sprinklers and automated systems.
  • Edging and strimming.
  • Leaf clearance in the autumn/winter.
  • Weed spraying.
  • General gardening duties including hand weeding, pruning, digging, planting, and watering plants.
  • Helping receive deliveries, which involves manual handling of bags ranging from 20-25kg.

The successful applicant will have an NVQ2 or above in greenkeeping/ groundsmanship/ horticulture (or other recognised equivalent qualification) or qualified by relevant experience.  They will ideally have a 2 years’ minimum experience of greenkeeping or horticultural background and experience working in a high-profile public or private garden desirable. Previous experience of using a wide range of turf care equipment, for example, mower tractors, cylinder and rotary mowers, and a wide range of turf renovation equipment, as well as hedge cutters, strimmers and similar equipment is required. A spray certificate PA1/PA6 and a driving licence is essential for the role.

The Groundsperson will have good communication skills, enjoy working as part of a small team, as well as being able to use own initiative. Physical fitness and strength are required by all applicants as this role involves the ‘heavier’ side of garden maintenance, operating machinery, and heavy lifting and the willingness to work outside in all weathers. He / She will demonstrate a good understanding of the latest health and safety legislation, especially when using equipment and chemicals. Basic maths and literacy skills for calculating and recording chemicals used as well as demonstrate good planning and organisational skills with an ability to look ahead.  He / She will have a flexible approach, have good attention to detail and able to demonstrate honesty and integrity in everything you do.

Sole Gardener - Live Out - EC7821

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and knowledgeable gardener to develop and maintain two beautiful gardens. The company is looking for a Sole Gardener to take ownership and to continue the maintenance of a striking and very prominent riverside garden in central London and also of an extensive and well-established garden in Dulwich.

The riverside garden is formerly laid out and will require seasonal bedding designs to be produced and executed twice a year. The successful applicant will need good experience in planting schemes.

Good experience of maintaining these areas will be essential.  Liaising with the landlord/household in respect of seasonal produce is also a requirement for this role.

Horticultural qualifications are preferred however those with the ability to produce a solid body of evidence in the form of a visual portfolio will be considered.
