As the Plantarea Manager, you will play a crucial role in overseeing and developing our thriving plant sales department. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and a small team of dedicated staff

Key Qualifications:

  • Strong horticultural knowledge and experience
  • Proven supervisory or managerial experience in a garden centre or similar retail environment

  • Excellent customer engagement skills
  • Good physical fitness for working on your feet and handling heavy lifting
  • Strong IT and numeracy skills
  • Full UK driving licence preferred but not essential

About the Role

This Plant Manager role will see you predominantly focussed on stock management and the principles around this. You will be capable of leading a team through effective motivation, learning and engagement. You will also look to continually improve the plant area. You will also meet with the local management team regularly to ensure the smooth running of the site.

The Ideal Candidate

This role would be suited to someone who has a strong plant background and a passion for retail and customers. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable.

A strong stock management background is preferred. Communication is a key aspect of the role, as you will be working closely with the team around.

A new opportunity has arisen for a knowledgeable Plantarea Manager with excellent customer service skills to take on a new role for a respected independent garden centre in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.  This position will suit experienced candidates with strong horticultural knowledge and purchasing experience.  This is a full-time permanent position and will require some weekend working on rotation.    

Established 20 years ago, the popular garden centre has built a reputation for high quality produce and their award-winning team.  The business has grown considerably over the years and has recently taken on a new site.  The company has achieved great success by offering an extensive range of plants throughout the year with many interesting lines, garden sundries and leisure goods, as well as a restaurant.

The centre is now seeking a Plantarea Manager to lead the running and development of the plant sales department for their site near Aberdeen.  Key responsibilities will involve managing the small team of staff, increasing plant sales and assisting with associated initiatives, face-to-face sales and management of customer enquiries, working closely with suppliers; purchasing and ensuring the department is well stocked in line with demand. High levels of presentation, merchandising and pricing strategy management will all form part of the successful applicant’s responsibilities

Customer service and the provision of friendly and informed advice by the skilled team has played a key part in the company’s success over the years and as such, it is of paramount importance that this aspect is maintained and developed to ensure continued customer satisfaction and company reputation. 

The successful candidate must have strong horticultural knowledge and be able to supervise and mentor the team to ensure continued personal development.  Applicants must have previous experience in a similar role and will either currently hold a Plantarea Manager position or have held a similar supervisory role in garden centre retail and feel ready to take the next career step.  Applicants must be positive and presentable, energetic and creative, and must enjoy engaging with the public.  Good physical fitness is required as the position will involve working on your feet for extended periods of time and may involve some heavy lifting.  Excellent spoken and written English are essential, as are strong IT and numeracy skills.
