Sole Gardener - Live Out - EC4055

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Sole Gardener to take ownership of a beautiful private estate garden near Littlehampton, West Sussex.  This position would suit a skilled, qualified gardener with a good work ethic, good physical fitness and the ability to plan their own time.

The three acre private garden is located a short walk from the south coast and adjacent to a large golf course to which it is associated.  The garden has expansive views across the countryside to the north and is partitioned into areas corresponding to the orientation of the house.  Open formal lawns, summer bedding plants, mixed shrubs, beds and borders, paved areas and mature trees make up the character of the space, with the neighbouring golf course providing an attractive and peaceful backdrop.  A tennis court and outdoor swimming pool are also located within the garden, though minimal management of these is required.

The management of raised beds will be necessary as seedlings are bought in to be grown by the gardener on site.  This is not a large kitchen garden but rather a small area designed to encourage children to become interested in the growing of produce.  Basic kitchen gardening skills and knowledge will therefore be required of the new Sole Gardener.  As the private garden is located adjacent to, and is associated with the golf course, some maintenance of the commercial area will be required as part of the role.  Assistance in this area will be provided by the golf course staff where necessary.

Applicants should hold an academic horticultural qualification, demonstrable experience of gardening autonomously, and must be able to plan their own work effectively at all times.  Good horticultural knowledge and physical fitness is required, as is a positive general outlook and the desire to realise the pride in managing a private estate garden.  A 40 hour week is offered on a permanent basis, with a generous salary for the ideal candidate.

SALARY:  £25,000

LOCATION:  Littlehampton, West Sussex

JOB No:  EC4055
