An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced gardener to join the garden care department of an established and popular garden centre.  The role will involve garden care and maintenance of domestic properties in West London, on a full-time permanent basis.

The award-winning independent garden centre in West London has a successful gardening department, comprising a small and friendly team.  A vacancy has arisen for an experienced gardener with the ability to supervise one other gardener and to lead by example, i.e., to carry out hands-on garden care with high attention to detail and to provide excellent customer service.

The ideal candidate will have experience in garden maintenance, with good plant knowledge, species-specific pruning skills and an ability to work safely and efficiently with a range of garden machinery.  A full driving licence is required for this role, with spray certificates (PA1/PA6) being beneficial.  Applicants must be friendly, positive, and be able to diplomatically lead and work alongside a team member.

Suitable applicants will have at least 3 years’ experience working in private gardens or for a recognised gardening company, good plant knowledge, a drivers’ licence, good time management and good people skills.

The Job:

Candidates will be expected to deal with paperwork, ensure that the staff adhere to the highest of standards; organise yours and the teams work schedules; arrange deliveries; and be capable of estimating and liaising with clients.  Candidates must have excellent practical skills in all areas of garden maintenance as well as landscaping, with a good eye for detail and strong leadership skills. Be able to demonstrate a successful track record of delivering high quality workmanship which is completed on time and within agreed budgets.

-Excellent horticultural knowledge, from plant identification to pest identification and pruning techniques

-Exceptional attention to detail, be creative and have the highest standards of horticultural practice

-Be punctual, tidy in appearance and have good “common sense”.

-Be able to communicate clearly with clients, staff and be able to keep records (fluent in written English)

-You will take a plant identification test during the interview, training on plant knowledge if required.

It is important that you have good communication skills, combined with a pro-active and flexible approach to your duties.

Candidates will be required to hold a formal horticultural qualification.

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Hard Landscape Foreman with previous experience in supervising a small team, as well as working alone on a variety of landscaping projects.

The successful candidate will have a demonstrable history of hard landscaping on a range of project sizes and must be fully qualified and experienced in paving, fencing, brick/blockwork, timber decking, composite decking, and irrigation systems.  The successful applicant will provide supervision to a team of 3-4 staff and carry out projects alone where required. Responsibilities include liaising directly with the client from a customer service and design/implementation perspective, reading and setting out scale drawings and working to specifications.  A full driving licence is required for the role.

This role is a full-time permanent and fully employed position.  A work vehicle will be provided for travel to and from work and for work activities following successful completion of a probationary period.  Benefits include training support, 28 days holiday and a company pension scheme.

Key Skills:

The appointed person will have general plant knowledge, be a passionate gardener. You should have proven track record of quality workmanship, a good eye for detail, organised in your approach to work and have a ‘can do attitude’ to take on whatever challenges arise in a day. You will need excellent communication skills and have a flexible approach to duties as you may be required in the winter period to support in landscaping. A horticultural qualification would be an advantage but a can-do attitude and hands on experience are more important. A full driving licence is essential for the role.

This position would suit a presentable gardener with demonstrable experience of working on private gardens.
