Established over 48 years ago, our client is a leading domestic landscape business based in the West Midlands. As part of the company’s ambitious growth and diversification plans, they have expanded their Wholesale Cash & Carry operations at the 4-acre Nursery site. The company plans to expand further its trading activity into the landscape market as well as enhancing the offering by establishing an online platform to enable clients to order directly from their website.

This has created an exciting opportunity for a self-motivated person with a can-do attitude to join their friendly, people focused team.

Purpose of the Role: -

To ensure that all customers received their orders in good condition and within a reasonable time frame that is acceptable and cost effective for both the company and the customer.

The role involves working closely with Procurement, sales and production to ensure that as a team, they can deliver great service to clients.

Key Skills: -

This is a hands-on role, the position would suit a person with previous experience working within a despatch team in a horticultural business, some horticultural experience is essential.

The candidate must be well organised, good with detail, methodical with a friendly personality. Strong communication skills and the ability to plan and organise work effectively are key to this role.

Forklift licence or Forklift experience is required.

Key responsibilities: -

-Plan and execute the picking and packing of stock for orders to be despatched or for collection.

-Loading & Unloading lorries.

-Manage incoming goods and organise appropriate actions for inward stock and ensure after care is arrangewith appropriate team members.

-Liaise with other members of the team to ensure the correct resources are available for you to complete required tasks.

-Ensure effective and safe supervision of team members under your supervision.

-Ensuring company Quality standards are adhered to.

-Organise and coordinate transportation activities

-Report to your line manager on progress against targets and any issues arising and possible solutions.

-Understanding and implementing Health & Safety, Environmental and other Regulatory procedures when necessary.

-Work with other team members to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the company.

Job Description:

Purpose of the Role: -
  • To ensure that all customers received their orders in good condition and within a reasonable time frame that is acceptable and cost effective for both the company and the customer.
  • The role involves working closely with procurement, sales and production to ensure that as a team we can deliver great service to the clients.
  • This role also requires good communication and relationship building with the preferred third-party transport partners to ensure they provide the service that is required.
Key Skills: -

This is a hands-on role, the position would ideally suit a person with previous despatch or logistics experience, some previous experience working with plants in the horticultural industry would be preferred but is not essential.

The candidate must be well organised, good with detail, methodical with a friendly personality.

Strong communication skills and the ability to plan and organise work effectively are key to this role.

Key responsibilities: -
  • Plan and execute the picking and packing of stock for orders to be despatched or for collection.
  • Estimate space required on vehicle’s and book the appropriate transport, grouping together and creating the most cost-effective solution that meets all stakeholders needs.
  • Loading & Unloading lorries.
  • Manage incoming goods and organise appropriate actions for inward stock and ensure after care is arranged with appropriate team members.
  • Liaise with other members of the team to ensure the correct resources are available to you to complete required tasks.
  • Ensure effective and safe supervision of team members under your supervision.
  • Ensuring company Quality standards are adhered to.
  • Organise and coordinate transportation activities
  • Report to the management team on progress against targets and any issues arising and possible solutions.
  • Understanding and implementing Health & Safety, Environmental and other Regulatory procedures when necessary.
  • Review freight rates and other transportation costs to keep working costs within budgets.
  • From time to time make deliveries as required.
  • Work with other team members to ensure the smooth and efficient running of the company.

Sole Gardener

A rare opportunity has arisen for a multi-skilled and experienced sole gardener to join a beautiful 26- acre family estate near Burton on Trent, Staffordshire.  This is a full-time permanent position, that would suit candidates with drive and creativity to develop and manage the gardens to a high horticultural standard.

The property is set in 26 acres and is made up of 20 acres of paddocks and grazing land plus 6 acres of formal gardens. Also, as part of the estate there is a 100 -acre woodland area. The formal gardens have recently been re-landscaped, and the owners are looking to invest in their garden. They require an experience gardener with a passion for development to redevelop the garden.

The garden currently consists of a kitchen garden with ornamental trees and box hedges, an orchard with apple trees, extensive lawns, a variety of mature trees and a small patch of roses that the owners would like to develop further. An area of focus for the role will be creating and planting flower beds and borders to bring colour to the garden.

The successful applicant will have demonstrable experience in all areas of private estate gardening/horticulture and estate maintenance.  Although the more technical aspects of this role will be horticulturally focussed, the position will involve additional hands-on duties such as assisting with general estate DIY, patio washing, etc.

Applicants must have excellent plant knowledge, ideally hold a level 2 or above horticultural qualification, excellent attention to detail and a methodological approach to their work.  Demonstrable experience in the above areas is essential, as is competency in the operation and basic farm and garden machinery; ride-on and pedestrian mowers, hedge cutters, strimmers, blowers, chainsaws etc.  Spraying qualifications (PA1/PA6) and chainsaw certification would be an advantage and a full UK driving licence is essential.  

Good physical fitness is important, and applicants must be tidy in their work, presentable, positive in attitude and a good team player. This is an excellent opportunity for a self-motivated gardener with the experience, knowledge and enjoys developing a garden to a high standard.

SALARY:       £28,000 - £32,000 depending on experience
