Our client is one of the leading suppliers of top-quality plants to the British landscaping Industry. From a 40-acre container site they produce and contact-grow a huge variety of plants, shrubs and trees. They are currently seeking a candidate to work within the Despatch team and ensure orders are picked and prepared in a timely manner to meet customer requirements and expectations.

Key points
  • Selecting plant stock from nursery locations to meet customer requirements
  • Maintenance of order-related paperwork to ensure accurate Inventory control
  • Assisting with loading and unloading of lorries as required
  • Assisting with maintaining stock and general husbandry duties
  • Working as part of a successful productive team of staff
Must haves
  • Good horticultural knowledge
  • Forklift license is preferable but not essential
  • Good reliability and flexibility
  • Able to take on a range of daily task with efficiency and accuracy

We are looking for an expert plantsperson to look after our 2 acre rose garden (plus a 2 acre private garden) and to manage the preparation of roses for Chelsea Flower Show and Hampton Court Flower Show.

You will take charge of two full time staff plus extra seasonal staff.  You will need to be very hands on and lead by example.  You will also be required to assist in estate management.

You must be capable of working to the highest standards to maintain and enhance our strong reputation as leaders in our field.  You will need to demonstrate experience working at the highest level.

Sole Gardener - EC3737

An experienced Sole Gardener is required to manage 2 acres of garden on a large privately owned Estate in North Shropshire that includes a working farm and partridge/pheasant shoots.  The Estate forms part of three family owned estates with the family dividing their time between Shropshire and the North and West of Scotland.

The garden was formed 10 years ago and contains formal lawns, large herbaceous borders, rose garden, productive walled kitchen garden, reflective pool, small woodland garden, and orchard and tennis court.

  Key responsibilities:

  • Maintain gardens and grounds to a consistently high standard all year round.
  • Produce vegetables, fruit and cut flowers for the household.
  • Propagate plants for border planting and pot displays
  • Maintain water features
  • Carry other reasonable duties and odd jobs as directed by the Principles
  • Supervise and coordinate contractors whilst working in the property grounds
  • Prepare, stock and stet fires in the family home and shooting lodge
  • Support estate activities

 Applications must possess the following skills:

  • Good plant knowledge and a high level of horticultural craft skills
  • Excellent time keeping, flexible in duties, attention to detail and take pride their work
  • Able to work well in  team and liaise with other estate staff
  • Capable of working unsupervised and on own initiative
  • Excellent health and level of fitness and positive disposition
  • Full clean driving licence
  • Experienced in using and maintain a wide range of garden machinery

Working hours are normally Monday to Friday 8-5pm. However applicants will be required to work evenings and weekends when required for harvesting of produce, watering duties, etc.
