Our client is a regional contractor providing a high-quality service to registered social landlords and local authorities. There are three divisions within the group: grounds maintenance and cleaning services and minor construction work.  

Job Description:

The Managing Director will be responsible for driving the business into a period of new growth and opportunity. Reporting to the CEO, the Managing Director will deliver against agreed KPI’s, targets and objectives for the company and will be responsible for continuing the growth of a high performing management team. Responsibilities include five direct reports (two contract managers, finance manager, a business support manager, and an accounts clerk) with a total of 40 staff members overall.

You will have strong leadership attributes coupled with demonstrable management and people skills that have been used extensively in senior management roles in a soft services multi-site environment. Previous experience at director level is highly desirable.

The Managing Director will be a relationship builder of the highest calibre, both with suppliers, customers and internal teams and will have proven negotiation, presentation and communication skills utilised to Board level.

Key responsibilities:
  • Provide effective leadership and direction for the management team and to oversee the day to day running of the business.
  • Enhance and upscale current customer relationship systems to provide a best in business offering.
  • Responsible for creating and maintaining an effective team culture, including through periods of change and to build and maintain a strong team ethos.
  • Identify and prioritise bid opportunities with the CEO.
  • Be able to contribute to effective bid writing, resulting in successful business.
  • Ensure the Company’s financial and service delivery goals are met through effective planning, organisation and use of key resources.
  • Accountable for all aspects of the business operational performance, service management, productivity and people related measures.
  • To deliver a programme of ongoing process efficiency and productivity.
  • To set and monitor objectives and performance targets for the team.
  • Manage P & L, budgets and report to the Board on a monthly basis.
  • Develop and monitor key business metrics to ensure targets are met.
  • Provide leadership and vision to the organisation by assisting the owners with the development of short and long term plans.
  • Recruitment of senior staff as required and identification of staff development training.
  • Annual appraisals for direct reports.
  • Review and update company policy documentation.

Couple

An incredible opportunity has arisen for a Gardener / Housekeeper Couple to join an important Grade 1 house near Salisbury in their respective fields. The Gardener will join on a full-time basis to rejuvenate and restore the prestigious listed garden around the house, with the objective to bring it back to its former glory. The housekeeper can join on a full-time basis or part time with the opportunity to increase hours in the future. The accommodation provided is a 3-bedroom flat in the coach house.

The property is a large Georgian country house surrounded by a 3-acre formal garden that is part of a wider estate including listed parkland, paddocks, woodland, swimming pool and tennis court. The 19th century formal garden to the West was terraced by William Butterfield and features yew topiary, stone urns and steps, fine specimen trees, water features, and extensive lawns. To the East is a large lawn and attractive pastureland framed by mature trees. To the North and South the property is bordered by woodland. 

The owners recently purchased the property and are looking to carry out a complete restoration of the house and garden. The ideal candidate for the gardening position will have an eye for detail and a strong interest in getting involved in a rejuvenating and renewal project. The Gardener will be hands on, and in the initial stages, there will clearing and restoring e.g., overgrown topiary and lawncare as well as assist on the wider estate. When the structural foundations are in place for the garden, the gardener will work on the design of the garden (potentially with a landscape designer) and be responsible for the care and maintenance of the grounds to a high horticultural standard. This would include maintaining the lawns, hedge cutting, pruning, transplanting, weeding, etc. with seasonal help as necessary.

Housekeeping duties will consist of the upkeep of the main house by way of cleaning, laundry, ironing, weekly shopping, and some preparation of food when the owners are in residence. 

This opportunity is also open to a live out senior gardener who is experienced, organised, has good attention for detail and can work on their own initiative. A competitive salary would be provided depending on experience.

My client is a large and very established plant nursery located in Norway, with 30,000m2 of modern greenhouse areas. The nursery produces large numbers of high-quality potted roses in spring and summer, but have unrealised potential for late summer, autumn and winter production. The company are looking to capitalise on these unused areas and it is the company’s desire to have the new Production Manager play a leading role.  Applications are sought from experienced Production Managers as well as General Nursery Managers, as the potential exists for the successful candidate to step up to the General Manager position in due course.

The experienced Production Manager will be required to develop production in the period from July to March and contribute to rose production in Spring and Summer, as well as to manage this side of the business on a full-time basis.  Responsibilities will include planning and execution of plant production, management and maintenance of technical facilities and the operation of greenhouse climate control systems.

Suitable candidates will hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or similar, and must have competency in greenhouse management, propagation and insect/disease control as well as being competency in mechanical maintenance.  Strong horticultural and floricultural knowledge is essential as is demonstrable knowledge of relevant plant pests and diseases.  Applicants must have held certification and official training in the use of plant pesticides, must be self-directed and able to work efficiently and effectively under limited supervision.  Applicants must have excellent English or Norwegian language skills, both spoken and written.

Applicants with staff management experience are encouraged to apply, though those without will also be considered on merit.  The company are offering a generous salary in line with the successful candidate’s experience, as well as the option for accommodation if needed.  The stated salary is negotiable for applicants with Nursery General Manager experience.

The company is a very well established and historic cremation authority.  The company’s principal activities are carrying out cremations and providing memorials at its crematoria.  The company owns and operates crematoria across London, Surrey, Oxfordshire and Kent.

Job Description:

The Regional Crematorium Manager will report to the Managing Director and will be responsible for crematorium site managers (currently 4-employees) as well as third-party contractors and suppliers.  Indirectly, all employees aside from the Head Office teams and Executive Management will report to the postholder, i.e. Gardeners, Cremators, Administrators, Maintenance etc.  The post will be based at the North West London Head Office and will require frequent travel (at least once a month) to all other sites.

The Regional Crematorium Manager will be a key figure in the organisation, responsible for shaping the future of the Company.  As Regional Crematorium Manager, you would be responsible for service delivery across the organisation, ensuring delivery of exceptional quality services to our customers.  The Regional Crematorium Manager has full management responsibility for overseeing all staff, budgets, health and safety practices and operations. 

Key Accountabilities and Outputs:
  • Work closely with each Site Manager to ensure every Crematorium is being led and managed effectively.
  • Improve productivity, quality and efficiencies across the business.
  • Ensure best practice is applied consistently across the Company.
