Housekeeper and Gardener/Handyman Couple (Live In) - EC4563

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a live-in couple to join a historic private estate in Devizes, Wiltshire.  This Housekeeper and Gardener/Handyman opening would suit a couple with demonstrable experience in private estate maintenance and housekeeping respectively.  A generous salary of £21,000 each is offered to candidates in addition to a two bedroom cottage on site.

The impressive eight bedroom main house is framed by an NGS registered, former RHS garden of six acres.  The 300 year old garden is currently managed by a full-time Skilled Gardener who will require assistance from time to time with basic gardening tasks such as mowing and hedge cutting.  The remainder of the estate maintenance duties will consist of non-horticultural tasks, i.e. DIY/handyman jobs on and inside the property buildings, occasional chauffeuring etc. The full-time gardener welcomes enthusiasm and the desire to learn, so keen gardeners with well-rounded practical estate management skills are invited to apply.

Housekeeping duties will consist of the upkeep of the main house by way of cleaning, laundry, weekly shopping, and some preparation of food for one child of 8 years old.  Three dogs reside on site and will require care when the property owners are away.  This will be limited to feeding and opening the door to enable them to entertain themselves in the large garden.  The position will be a Monday to Friday role with free weekends except on very rare occasions, as unforeseen circumstances inevitably arise.

A two bedroom cottage is provided, with rent, Council tax, water, electricity etc. covered by the employer.  Bills such as phone and internet will be covered by the successful candidates.  Couples with demonstrable experience in each of the above areas are encouraged to apply.  Candidates with experience and training in trades, with good all-round DIY skills are particularly sought after.  Likewise, housekeepers with experience on private estates and autonomous working will be most welcome.  Applicants must have an excellent command of spoken and written English, a natural ability to get on well with other staff and visitors, and must be capable of working unsupervised and managing their own time.

A welcoming environment and stunning property, located in a very desirable part of rural Wiltshire, awaits the successful candidates.  The estate owners are genuinely passionate about their property and staff, and look for equally committed employees to share the result of their combined efforts.  A generous combined salary is offered, as stated below, with a cottage on site with its own separate entrance and driveway, courtyard garden and storage space.

Sole Gardener Housekeeper Couple (Live in) - EC4445

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a live-in couple to join a historic private estate near Chippenham, North Wiltshire. This opening would suit a skilled gardener and experienced housekeeper couple with experience in a similar role on private estates. The gardener role is full time, with the housekeeper position offered on a 30 hours per week basis (approximately).

The Grade II listed mid-seventeenth century manor house is surrounded by gardens that, until recently, have been part of the National Garden Scheme. The owners now wish to reduce the overall maintenance demands of the gardens via modification and improvement, though they want it to remain a very special and beautiful place to live. The established gardens comprise surrounding areas of woodland, a kitchen garden, orchard, a rose garden, herbaceous and mixed borders, a greenhouse, lawns and yew hedging, as well as a tennis court and swimming pool.

Applicants for the Sole Gardener position should be skilled and qualified, with demonstrable experience of managing private estate gardens to a high standard. Applicants must have good plant identification skills, a good working knowledge of plant propagation and glasshouse work, and be physically fit and strong with a genuine passion for developing gardens to their full potential. The client is looking for a fresh, fun and interesting approach to the modification of their garden so applicants need not be entirely traditional in their approach, however quality and attention to detail are of paramount importance.  As this is a Sole Gardener role, applicants must possess a friendly, positive and flexible attitude towards the estate and their work, such that they are willing to assist with general estate duties as they arise, including some driving and occasional DIY.  The Sole Gardener will also be required to sometimes look after the owner’s spaniel.

In addition to the Sole Gardener position, there is a requirement for a housekeeper to assist in the management of the 8 bedroom manor house on a basis of approximately 30 hours per week. This post will involve housekeeping duties such as cleaning, laundry, food shopping and some weekend cooking, and preparation for the arrival of visitors.  There are some full weekends (visiting children and grandchildren) and a pattern of informal weekend entertaining, though this occurs very occasionally.  .  The successful candidates will have the use of a car and will be offered accommodation by way of a three bedroom cottage with its own garden.  The tenants of the adjoining cottage help with cover for holidays and are good neighbours in every respect. The local farm partner and farm building tenants are also part of the supportive community. The owners are usually away midweek.

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a friendly and genuine community on a beautiful estate in rural Wiltshire, located within easy reach of Chippenham, Bath and Bristol.  The opportunity is offered to couples that fulfil the Sole Gardener and Housekeeper requirements, with a negotiable starting company salary of £25,000 and £15,000 respectively.

Head Gardener - Live Out - EC4216

A superb opportunity has arisen for an experienced Head Gardener who has excellent plant knowledge and wide-ranging horticultural skills to supervise a team of 2/3 gardeners in managing the garden and grounds of a Grade 2 listed country estate in South Warwickshire.
