Our Client has been established for over 20 years and have been involved in commercial soft landscaping right across the South East, spanning as far north as Peterborough and as far west as Bristol. They are currently looking for a motivated and skilled Landscape Foreman for a variety of soft landscape construction projects.

 Job Description:
Team supervision Ensure team are on site on time, breaks are monitored, uniform and PPE are worn correctly and site is left in a good state each day in a safe and secure location.
Reporting absence To lead on compliance with absence reporting procedure, ensuring team communicate and absence is recorded correctly.
Health and Safety Ensure all Health and Safety criteria onsite is met. Report any issues to the Contracts manager and ensure reporting mechanisms are used.
Supervision of deliveries Oversee onsite deliveries. Ensure any issues are communicated ahead of time. To oversee safe delivery and off load of all deliveries. All materials are to be checked upon delivery. No operatives or foreman are to enter the delivery vehicle. Check the quality of stock, any defective/damaged stock i.e. twisted/broken trees are to be rejected. Inform your contracts manager immediately before delivery leaves.
Site issues/queries Ensure all issues/queries are reported to your Contracts Manager and the office immediately so they can be dealt with, with quality management in mind.
Care of company property Ensure all company property is looked after. Carry out daily pre-start checks to each tool that has an engine. Ensure that ALL tools and equipment are cleaned twice per month thoroughly and after each use. Vehicles are to be left clean inside at all times and washed weekly. If medical kit is used, inform the office once supplies are running low. Ensure there is always enough eye wash for two people for both eyes at all times. All tools and equipment to be stored safely and returned to the van each day. Any maintenance required should be carried out as required.
Daily updates Keep lines of communication open with your Supervisor and Manager. Ensure reporting and emails are checked/completed daily. 
Works evidence Before and after images are to be taken each day of the works carried out by yourself and your operatives (no exceptions). To be sent to your office Contracts Administrator (email and contact number will be provided)
Training It will be your responsibility to ensure that you and your team are working to the required standard. These standards and training methods will be monitored by your Contracts Manager and senior management and will form part of your PDR review.
Site responsibilities You will be responsible for direct conversations with the site manager. Each morning you need to carry out a ten-minute daily risk assessment. Ensure all paperwork is logged/retained correctly.
Near miss & Accident reports You will be responsible for informing your Supervisor/Manager and the office if you or anyone within your team encounter a near miss.

Near miss/accident reports are to be completed in full and submitted to the office for record and to allow the safety manager to advise of any control measures required.

 

RAMS & Toolbox Talk signatures At the start of each job you will be required to carry out a toolbox talk (TBT) for each task on site you are likely to carry out (provided inside the RAMS folder) These are to be read to your operatives and signed by each member. Any new operative on site MUST carry out a TBT.

You will be required to ensure your operatives read, understand then sign the risk assessment and method statement pack given to you on the first day of a new site.

Quality Management Assist your contracts manager to monitor and record quality control measures during project completion from start to finish. Ensure you keep good communication with your manager. Issue resolution and improvements to be communicated and recorded.

 

Key Skills:
  • Previous experience as a Foreman or Team Leader within the landscape construction industry.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to plan and execute work efficiently.
  • Good leadership skills are also important as are good organisational skills and an eye for detail.

Rationale:

The Landscape Supervisor provides on the ground management and support to the team leaders within their region and gives direct management support to the Contracts Manager.

The role is a mix of on the ground hands on leadership and mobile site level management. The Supervisor must be competent in communicating both verbally and in writing with our client’s site management and our own in house administrative support. A strong knowledge of good landscape practice will be essential, preferably supported by a qualification or a willingness to obtain one.

As the “right hand man” to the areas Contracts Manager you will be expected to oversee the more complicated projects and/or a number of projects at a time including attending H&S and production meetings with the on site management, troubleshooting and assisting the manager with general tasks such as take-off’s, site measures and client liaison.

This Role will also require you to physically work on sites as requested and lead teams to achieve deadlines and quality standards. 

In short this an intermediate Management role between the Contracts Manager and the other team leaders within the region.

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a head gardener to develop the gardens surrounding a stunning converted Barn in Bolton.

The converted barn is surrounded by 16 acres of land consisting of 6 acres of formal gardens, mature trees, a small paddock, stables, an outdoor swimming pool and a summer house. The Head Gardener will work closely with the architect engaged on site and landscaping firm to prepare the development plan to be implemented. The owners of the property are very passionate about their garden and have a keen interest in horticulture. The garden will host a wealth of plants and shrubs and the owners are looking for someone to really take ownership of the gardens and work closely with the architects and landscapers to achieve the vision. The owners are looking to invest significantly in their garden and following the implementation, the head gardener will lead a 5-year development plan.

Initially the Head Gardener will be a sole position with the view to building a team as the grounds are developed. The successful candidate will have excellent horticultural and plant knowledge as well as plant husbandry skills. A knowledge of pest and disease control is important for this role and as such, the successful candidate should hold a PA1/PA6 spray certificate and/or experience with organic control methods.

Applicants will ideally possess a level 3 horticultural qualification plus at least 5 years garden development experience on a private estate. He / She will have good communications skills and the ability to work alongside other staff and oversee contractors. A driving licence and the ability to operate (as well as basic maintenance of) a range of garden machinery would be an advantage.

Currently the market garden occupies 10 acres and it is likely that this would be expanded in the future. The garden comprises of apple, pear, plum and cherry orchards chosen for flavour not yield. A dozen varieties of strawberries and raspberries are grown mainly of rare heritage varieties. The glass houses are derelict and will require replacement.

The mission is to grow the very finest varieties of the very finest fruits, vegetables and herbs. These may be traditional or non-traditional. The estate is associated with an artisanal food business so that although this is not a commercial enterprise the produce would be supplied to the business as well as to the family. For this reason, knowledge of prevailing rules and regulations is vital.

The project will include the reinstatement of the glasshouses and a full landscaping program. It is envisaged that the landscaping element would be a joint project with the estate head gardener. The role will require a Market gardener of exceptional knowledge and experience in succession planting, cultivation of vegetables, fruit, herbs, edible flowers and micro herbs. He / she will be capable of building a team with the aim of creating a market garden of scale, productivity, diversity and beauty using the most effective sustainable methods. The position is autonomous but would require cooperation with the estate head gardener.

Applicants for this role must have extensive horticultural knowledge in terms of market/kitchen garden management and the continuous supply of high-quality produce.  Clear and regular communication with the owners will be required throughout the development of the garden and to supply the required fruit and vegetables. A good working knowledge of propagation, organic pest and disease management and good plant husbandry is essential. As well as good understanding of Health and safety legislation is also required.

Skilled Gardener - Live Out - EC7295 - This position has now been filled

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a skilled gardener to develop and maintain a stunning garden surrounding a grade one historic house near Maidstone.

The 4-acre garden has a range of areas from densely planted, through formal, to “natural” water garden and parkland. It consists of box and yew hedging, lavender, herbaceous and mixed beds, vegetable garden, a number of notable mature trees including a large Lebanese cedar, a large pond with aquatic plants, manicured lawns and a professional greenhouse used for propagation.

The skilled gardener will be expected to further develop the garden and provide input on the regular spring planting of trees, shrubs and bedding plants. He / She will manage the garden to a high horticultural standard and have a vision for maintaining and enhancing the garden as required. The skilled gardener will work closely with the owners on the development and alongside a specialist lawns and hedges gardener.  

In addition to the garden, the successful applicant will be responsibility for the swimming pool, the large greenhouse and the estate machinery. He / She will be trustworthy and their help with deliveries and giving contractors access to the house in the owner’s absence is also required.

Applicants will ideally hold a level 2 / 3 horticultural qualification, combined with good plant and tree knowledge, excellent technical skills and previous experience working on private estates. PA1/PA6 spray certificates would be an advantage and the ability to operate and maintain a range of garden machinery is required for the role.  Knowledge of maintaining ponds and water gardens would be an advantage.

A generous annual salary is provided for the successful applicant plus a performance related bonus worth one month’s salary at Christmas.
