A new opportunity has arisen for an experienced soft landscape team leader with an established and successful company, based in West Berkshire.  Working alongside many of the national house builders, this company take on projects ranging from small exclusive developments to plot by plot for 500 units plus.  With their accreditations, extensive array of equipment and with the majority of employees having CSCS cards, the teams undertake a variety of contracts throughout the area and beyond.  This vacancy is for a Team Leader to work alongside and supervise two assistants within the soft landscaping division.

The role will involve implementing basic planting plans on new-build housing complexes and estates, in supervision of two assistants.  Time management and physical fitness are essential as the position can involve planting across multiple areas and some heavy lifting, e.g., tree planting.

Applicants will ideally have experience in commercial soft landscaping and possess good knowledge of plant species commonly used in commercial planting schemes.  The successful applicant should be able to work from planting plans and be able to constructively manage and develop the skills of assistant soft landscapers / maintenance gardeners.  Applicants must have experience in a comparable role, be competent with a range of garden machinery, and must possess a full driving licence.

Greens Team has worked closely with many directors and producers, filming all around the world, on many celebrated past and present blockbuster films and television dramas.

We have worked on numerous landscaping projects throughout the UK. However large or small, we take outdoor areas and turn them into glorious spaces for people to enjoy. This can involve simple designs, often smaller spaces or more complex design and construction requirements involving decorative water features, intricate drainage systems and high levels of planting.

We are currently recruiting for Greens Crew to work on film sets in and around Pinewood Studios and on location.   

-Landscaping & horticultural experience is preferred. (Set dressing, arborist, floristry experience also good)

-Machine tickets a bonus (iPaf, digger, telehandler, chainsaw etc)

The main thing required is a strong work ethic, professional approach,  being punctual and a can-do attitude (no egos).

We work outdoors in all weather building on some of the most amazing sets for some of the biggest films in cinema!

Skilled Gardener

A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a talented and enthusiastic Skilled Gardener on a private garden in Bedale, Yorkshire. This incredible Grade II listed property stands beautifully within approximately 57 acres of its own parkland with landscaped gardens and grounds overlooking lakes and open fields.  The main 5-acre garden comprises of a kitchen garden within the walled garden, ha-ha’s, formal ponds, extensive laws, mixed borders, and a variety of trees.

The owners have been living at the property for the past 6 years and have been redeveloping the gardens. They have completed 3 phases however the gardens are constantly evolving, and the owners are looking for a gardener with the drive and enthusiasm to continue to enhance the garden as required. The successful candidate will be responsible for the routine maintenance and ongoing development of the garden on a full-time permanent basis. Over the winter period, the gardener would be expected to cut wood and work around the lakes.

Candidates will ideally hold a recognised academic horticultural qualification, good horticultural knowledge, and practical gardening experience. The owners are open to candidates with the right attitude, energy and enthusiasm looking to further develop their career and they would gladly support further trainings and courses to do so. Applicants should have good physical fitness, and willingness to take ownership of the garden and its continuing development and implementation.

The owners have three very friendly dogs; two Dachshund and a flat coat retriever and would like a gardener who would be flexible to look after the dogs when the owners travel. The gardener would be compensated for this separately at £25 / day.

Accommodation on site is a potential option in the future as the client is currently in the process of gaining planning permission.  Should accommodation be required by the candidate, the owners are open to discussion. A full driving licence and your own transport are essential.

Head Gardener

An experienced and responsible Head Gardener is required to work in an incredible private garden and estate in the New Forest.  It is an exciting opportunity to join the new owners as they take on the management of the existing garden and landscape as well as being a part of the development of several new areas of garden. 

The site is 180 acres of varying landscape from historic parkland, woodland, ponds, wetlands, equestrian paddocks and mixed grasslands. About 5 acres are the formal garden areas which are a mixture of woodland garden, mixed shrub and herbaceous borders, orchard, food production, composting areas & formal lawns. There are several greenhouses and a walled garden which will be undergoing a comprehensive redesign as part of the new works. These works will be undertaken by external contractors and overseen by the Client’s Landscape Designer who will also project manage them.  At the heart of the redesign will be food production as well as cut flowers for the house so experience in kitchen gardening is key.  There is also a tennis court and equestrian facilities on site.

The successful candidate should have strong horticultural knowledge, as well as extensive experience in both administrative and practical management of gardens and landscapes throughout the year and proven supervisory experience. The position is full time, and the head gardener will be required to work with and manage other garden staff and coordinate with external contractors, as required, for specialist horticultural works. They will be expected to manage, programme and oversee any external maintenance and service contractors for items such as the irrigation, potential grazing and various energy elements. It will also be necessary for them to gain a working understanding of the relevant equipment for day-to-day management. They will be expected to keep up-to-date records and daily diaries accordingly.

The Head Gardener will be expected to maintain the grounds to the highest horticultural standards throughout the seasons and have a sound understanding of general garden machinery, their uses and maintenance They should be willing to undertake training as required and qualifications in spraying (PA1 and PA6), hedge-cutting and chainsaw use would be an advantage. They should be good at budget planning and have a comprehensive understanding of the relevant Health and Safety Regulations, environmental management, manual handling and risk assessment. References will be required.

Candidates must have excellent interpersonal skills, be self-motivated and capable of working as part of a team, have a valid driving license and be comfortable around animals.
