This is a unique and exciting opportunity for a confident and experienced Kitchen Gardener to work within a private Estate in the North Cotswolds.
This is a key position within a recently acquired private Cotswolds Estate that comprises of traditional parkland area, fields and paths, traditional walled garden, kitchen gardens, formal and informal lawns, ponds, orchard, woods, arboretum, bed and borders of large Grade II listed Hall and its various guest houses and cottages. The successful applicant will be predominantly responsible for the productive areas of the garden.
Ideally candidates will have an accredited horticultural qualification and / or proven experience in a similar role. Reporting to and working closely with the Head Gardener, the Kitchen Gardener will be involved in the planning and ongoing maintenance of the productive garden implementing organic principles where possible. The gardens team supply the house with fresh seasonal produce daily. As well as open ground, the kitchen garden has a number of polytunnels to provide a means of extending the growing season.
The vision for the estate over the next couple of years is to transition the current farming practices to more natural wildflower rich fields, meadows, hedgerows with new additional woodlands and wetlands with the objective of increasing flora and fauna diversity. The owners are keen to move towards self sufficiency and are keen to source produce from the kitchen garden, orchards and through foraging across the wider estate. Therefore, they are open to ideas moving forward to increase the productivity of the estate. Alongside the Head Gardener, the Kitchen Gardener will develop the Fruit and Vegetable gardens and the Estate Orchards in providing self-sufficient and sustainable Organic produce. Overall, the Gardening team will work with the Kitchen team to utilise the wider ingredients (e.g. Game meats) harvested within the Estate to produce healthy and nutritious meals.
The Estate values and rewards colleagues that are aspirational and passionate about their roles and will work harmoniously in delivering the exciting legacy that the Principals have in mind.. Working week: 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday (with some shared weekend flexibility during seasonal intensive periods). References and a current DBS will be required.

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced gardener to join a close estate team on a beautiful private property in Central Dorset, on a full-time basis. Applicants will ideally hold horticultural qualifications, preferably at Level 2 or above, similarly at least 3 years of demonstrable experience of working in an estate environment.
The rural property is situated in a beautiful location, approximately 20-miles from the Dorset coast. The historic main house is surrounded by formal gardens with parkland, mature trees and managed paddocks beyond. Within the estate a small team of staff ensure the smooth running of the grounds, of which the successful applicant will play an integral part. The 100-acre estate houses a variety of formal gardens including ornamental bedding, borders and lawns, a glasshouse, walled vegetable garden, a swimming pool, 2 lake’s, an orchard and mature trees throughout. This position will require applicants to have a good understanding of, and experience in kitchen gardening, as a wide variety of produce is grown for the house on an ongoing basis, along with a comprehensive plant knowledge and the maintenance of to provide the estate with fresh cut flowers.
The Skilled Gardener will play an important role in ensuring the formal gardens are maintained to high standards while working closely alongside the wider team, that include the Head Gardener, a full time Groundsman and a part time colleague. Suitable applicants for this role will have experience of working within a private estate environment from a hands-on perspective. Demonstrable experience in kitchen gardening and plant propagation/glasshouse work is essential, as is competency in the operation and basic maintenance of garden machinery. Spraying qualifications (PA1/PA6), an in-date First Aid certificate, and chainsaw certificate would be desirable, though training can be provided in the areas necessary for otherwise suitable candidates. This role sits within the Forest Research Technical Services Unit (TSU) which provides a capacity to conduct field work across Great Britain. Through a network of field stations and two nursery facilities which work in close co-operation, the TSU provides a wide range of specialist technical skills and knowledge to support the work of the science centres within Forest Research and on behalf of other customers, Forestry Commission, Forestry and Land Scotland, Natural Resources Wales and other external clients.

Job description
The Technical Services Unit at Alice Holt’s Research Station are looking to appoint a nursery manager on a three-year fixed term appointment. The purpose of the job is to take the lead in the management and development of high-quality FR nursery facilities at Alice Holt which consist of an intensive nursery facility at the Research Station and a nearby extensive outdoor facility at Headley. There may also be occasional opportunities to assist with TSU fieldwork. Liaising with FR project leaders, the nursery manager will deliver the nursery services required to underpin their research projects as well as identifying opportunities for development of future nursery work. The successful candidate’s key work areas will be:
Managing the nursery facilities:
- Manage agreed budgeted work programmes, occasional staff members and growth facilities to provide a high-quality horticultural service that meets the needs of our clients
- Oversee the maintenance of the site, identifying seasonal work required
- Achieve efficient use of nursery resources in all areas of work through planning and efficient management balancing quality and cost effectiveness
- Care for the plants in the nursery, carrying out watering, weeding and pest control as required
- Propagate or source plants required for research projects
- Ensure that work complies with FR’s health and safety, quality assurance (QA) and ISO14001 environmental management standards
Developing future nursery capacity:

Job Description:
A vacancy has become available for a grower overseeing seasonal bedding production with some additional perennial production. The grower will be responsible for overseeing the team of production staff which currently consists of 4, however this does fluctuate seasonally. The employer is looking for someone with previous experience working in a wholesale nursery with a strong understanding of nursery production and plant after care.
The nursery itself is set out over 8 acres and plants are grown under glass and within polytunnels. The grower will be responsible for all record keeping from delivery of young plant stock through to saleable product. The nursery currently has a 7 – 10 day spraying regime and therefore both PA1 & PA6 spraying qualifications will be required as well as an understanding of the current pesticides and organic controls available for the control of a wide of pest and disease.
Candidates will ideally have experience setting up and operating a range of production machinery including tray / pot fillers, transplanting machine and compost mixers, although training can be provided.

The ideal candidate will have good all-rounded horticultural knowledge either from years of experience or, shorter experience with relevant qualifications. They will have a ‘can do attitude’ and be friendly and clear in communication when dealing with others. It is not essential that applicants speak Italian however, it would be advantageous to help with settling in Florence.
The role will entail general maintenance of the garden to a high horticultural standard such as the border maintenance, pruning, weeding, kitchen gardening, mowing, strimming, and hedge cutting as well as continuing to enhance and develop the gardens by carrying out planting improvements. Our client is a school with a global reputation and inspiring facilities based in Shropshire. The Estates department is looking for a qualified, self-motivated, and efficient Senior Gardener to join their friendly and hardworking team. This is a full time, permanent and varied role which will involve assisting with the maintenance and development of the gardens and grounds.
The 110-acre grounds contain stunning architecture that compliments the natural beauty of ancient trees and open spaces that are meticulously maintained to a horticultural high standard by a dedicated Grounds and Gardens team. The grounds contain many elements including multiple sports pitches including football and rugby pitches, artificial hockey fields, grass squares and nets, artificial nets, cricket squares as well as multiple tennis and netball courts. The trees, plants and green spaces at the school contribute to biodiversity and enrich the lives of all students and staff, with wildflower meadows and over 750 trees within the 50-acres of amenity areas.
The Senior Gardener will report to the Grounds Manager and help guide the gardens team, working collaboratively with colleagues as part of a professional team. The role will involve being responsible for preparing grounds for the planting of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants as well as maintain borders, hedges, fences, walls, paths, roadways, and woodlands. He / She will carry out horticultural operations, such as planting, pruning and maintenance of trees, shrubs and herbaceous plants. Lawn maintenance is part of the role with the use of pedestrian and ride-on equipment to scarify, aerate, top-dress, over-seed, lift and lay turf, feed, irrigate and cut.
Specialist duties will include organising the daily work schedules and ensuring the continued delivery of high standards throughout the team, as well as working to agreed budgets and timescales. The Senior Gardener will also be required to design and organise specific gardening projects for the school and implement summer and winter bedding schemes.
The successful applicant will hold a relevant horticultural qualification and spraying certificates, PA1 & PA6 as well as have experience maintaining large or historic gardens. He / She work on own and as part of a team as well as use their own initiative and will be self-motivated, adaptable and be willing to undertake tasks to given time constraints. Experience maintaining and cleaning horticultural equipment including hand tools, strimmers, hedge-cutters, pedestrian and ride on mowers, scarifiers, aerators, tractors and any other machinery required to undertake allocated tasks is important to continue working in a tidy and safe manner. The Senior Gardener will be comfortable working outside in all weathers and the role may require heavy lifting occasionally. Please note candidates will need to hold a full clean drivers licence.
A competitive salary is provided as well as additional benefits such as free lunch during term-time, free car parking, free use of the school’s facilities when not in use by the pupils (library, swimming pool, gym, tennis courts, squash courts). 28 days paid holiday per calendar year including public holidays, pension, and life insurance scheme. The basic hours are 39 hours per week working during term-time and during school holidays. The successful applicant will join a small team overseeing one other team member and a part time gardener. They will be responsible for planning and prioritising the garden work schedule and ensure that they are compliant with Health and safety at all times.
Candidates will ideally hold a horticultural qualification and/or experience working in a diverse estate garden. Spray certificates PA1/PA6 and chainsaw would be desirable but not essential as training can be given. A driving licence is required due to the rural location of the property.
The accommodation provided is a semi-detached farmhouse with two bedrooms. Partners and children are welcome however, no pets. The rent and bills such as council tax, water, electricity and internet are paid by the employer.

Job Description:
The company is looking for an ambitious and enthusiastic person with a natural sales ability to join the designer sales & marketing team. You will be involved in the day-to-day processing of sales enquiries and estimates, their follow-up and successful conversion through to order. The ability to focus on delivering company targets and margins while maintaining the standards demanded by the client is key.
Reporting to the Head of Sales and Marketing, you will take responsibility for the account management of a selected range of clients, seeking out profitable new business and developing existing relationships within an agreed framework. As an ideal candidate you will have extensive sales and customer service experience and a good understanding of the landscape supply market. You will be self-motivated, efficient, and methodical with very good organisational, communication and IT skills.
As part of the designer sales and marketing team, the successful candidate will also play a significant role in how to create, shape and communicate the company’s marketing content.
Good plant knowledge and great attention to detail are essential. A clean driving licence would also be beneficial. Full induction training will be provided for the role. Normal working hours are 7.30am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday (Saturday morning working and working additional hours may be necessary during peak times).
Key role responsibilities include:
- Taking responsibility for a range of key accounts to nurture and develop mutually beneficial partnerships
- Taking enquiries from clients by phone or email, processing the enquiry or forwarding on where outside the brief of the team
- Issuing sales estimates and orders through our business management system SAP B1, maintaining responsibility for those transactions through the process
- Working within the business framework from enquiry to delivery, paying close attention to margins and profitability
- Gathering and sharing product and market information
- Attending trade events as required to represent the business
- Escorting visitors around the site to facilitate sales, as directed by the line manager
- Providing support to other team members in their absence to ensure that all customers consistently receive the best service possible
