Our client, a well-established family-owned garden centre, is renowned for its high-quality plants, home and giftware, furniture, food hall, and butchery. They are seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Plant Area Manager to oversee the plant department and ensure exceptional retail standards. This role involves managing plant care, stock levels, customer engagement, and leading a small team to drive sales and maintain a high-quality shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Plant Care & Maintenance: Ensure the health and vitality of all plants through effective watering, feeding, and seasonal care routines.
- Stock Management: Oversee plant ordering, delivery coordination, and the upkeep of visually appealing displays. Maintain stock accuracy, including participation in stock-taking processes.
- Customer Engagement: Provide expert horticultural advice, assist customers in selecting plants, and promote seasonal offerings.
- Sales & Performance: Collaborate with the management team to set and achieve sales targets, analyse trends, and manage department expenses efficiently.
- Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and support staff, ensuring high standards of customer service and plant care are maintained.
- Health & Safety: Uphold a safe working environment for both staff and customers by conducting regular checks and hazard assessments.
- Key Holding Responsibilities: Open and close the store as required, ensuring all procedures are followed securely.
Required Experience:
- Previous experience in a garden centre retail environment with strong horticultural knowledge.
- A passion for plants, ideally backed by qualifications such as RHS Level 2/3 or equivalent.
- Expertise in visual merchandising, creating inspiring and engaging plant displays.
- Proven leadership experience, with an eye for detail and a commitment to high standards.
- Strong IT and organisational skills to effectively manage stock, sales, and daily operations.
The Offer
- A full-time, permanent position averaging 42.5 hours per week.
- A two-week rotating schedule, alternating between four weekdays and alternate weekends.
