We are pleased to announce an exciting opportunity to join a long-established, family-run horticultural business as a Nursery Manager. This is a full-time, hands-on role based on a 5-hectare glasshouse nursery, specialising in supplying high-quality bedding plants to garden centres. The position offers the chance to work closely with the partners in driving the success of the nursery.

Job Description:

As the Nursery Manager you will take charge of the daily organisation and management of up to 30 staff members, ensuring smooth operations and a collaborative team environment. Your responsibilities will include supervising the production process, overseeing the dispatch of orders to maintain efficiency, and coordinating incoming deliveries. Additionally, you will handle the general maintenance of the nursery to ensure its facilities are kept to a high standard. Given the seasonal nature of the business, a willingness to work overtime and weekends when required will be essential.

Required Skills:

The ideal candidate will bring experience in nursery operations and staff management, with the skills needed to lead a team effectively and maintain the smooth operation of a large-scale horticultural business. Strong organisational and communication abilities are essential, ensuring the coordination of various aspects of production runs efficiently.

Responsibilities will include managing stock control to maintain accurate inventory levels and minimise waste, as well as organising maintenance across the nursery site to ensure all equipment and facilities remain in excellent condition. The role also involves implementing pest and disease management strategies to safeguard plant health and quality, alongside managing irrigation systems to meet the specific needs of different plant varieties.

This is a diverse and rewarding role that requires a hands-on, proactive individual who can solve problems effectively and uphold the high standards of a respected and established nursery.

  • Relevant experience in nursery operations and staff management.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates.
  • Forklift license.
  • 5t vehicle license.
  • Ability to contribute effectively to the diverse tasks required on-site.

This position offers a competitive salary of up to £38,000, depending on experience. Additionally, the role includes on-site accommodation in a spacious 5-bedroom farmhouse (Utilities to be covered by the candidate).
