Our client is a well-established British company with a loyal and growing international customer base principally in the UK, Europe and North America particularly USA. The business has an innovative and expanding range of bio-degradable seed related products currently focused principally on the home garden horticulture sector.

The Company is now looking for an exceptional and experienced International Sales director/Managing Director designate with a proven track record of delivering success through an effective and ambitious business strategy that optimizes the Company’s on-going growth and profitability.

In addition, the ideal candidate will, working in association with the senior management team, assume responsibility for the identification and development of new markets, the continuous research and development of new products and the on-going investment by the Company in innovative and efficient new technologies, processes and machinery.

The International Sales Director/MD designate will have full responsibility for the development and oversight of team initiatives, and help make robust and informed, corporate decisions that elevate the company’s financial and operational performance. As a senior leader within the business, the International Sales Director/MD designate will foster a positive, inspiring, and collaborative work environment that empowers employees to actively work toward clearly defined companywide strategic goals.

Objectives of this role:
  • Develop profitable international sales in existing and new markets.
  • Be the key representative of the Board and Company in communicating seeding important decisions to shareholders, other business stakeholders, customers and suppliers.
  • Manage the company’s overall development and ensure that general operations run seamlessly as employees accomplish clearly defined goals.
  • Make strategic and financial decisions that determine and deliver the Company’s approved long term strategic goals.
  • Create and monitor budgets, resources, and procedures by working with the Company’s cross-functional senior management team.
  • Create a positive company culture through strong, inspirational leadership.
  • Deliver and engender delivering excellent customer service throughout the Company’s operations.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop, execute, and assess critical business strategies that will drive the Company’s growth and profitability.
  • Collaborate with other executives, managers, and employees to identify meaningful solutions across all aspects of the business.
  • Principal responsibility to drive the sales and marketing function across the key markets of UK, Europe and North America.
  • Undertake regular travel principally to Europe and North America for customer visits (circa 10 trips to Europe/2 trips North America annually).
  • Serve as a main resource for managers in finance, production, Health & Safety, and HR operations.
  • Constantly review and adapt all important company procedures and policies by collaborating with all relevant staff and assessing current external best practice and industry trends.
Required skills and qualifications:
  • Excellent communication skills and effective decision-maker.
  • Possess a strong customer focus ethos.
  • Demonstrable track record of success within a manufacturing business of driving Sales & Marketing functions including social media.
  • Proven success as a senior executive managing departmental teams.
  • Expert understanding of corporate finance, imports/exports and business management.
  • Strong knowledge of financial, technical, and economic concepts.
Preferred skills and qualifications:
  • Relevant certification in business, sales and marketing or equivalent experience in senior corporate management.
  • Collaborative skills for establishing and fostering positive working relationships at all levels.
  • Familiarity with the manufacturing sector and the Seed Industry together with its regulatory environment.
  • Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines and accomplish business objectives.
  • Project management skills for the identification and delivery of bespoke capital investment.
  • Language skills – ideally French, German and/or Italian.
