An exciting new opportunity has arisen within a small country estate in the Cotswolds, for an experienced Head gardener in search of a rewarding role leading a small team. This role will suit a hands-on professional gardener with proven experience managing a team and taking responsibility for the maintenance and development of a very special garden to a high standard.
The formal gardens cover an area of approximately 9 acres and are set within a country estate of 100 acres. Garden features include extensive topiary, orchard, water garden, herbaceous borders, formal beds, tennis court and swimming pool. The gardens have recently been developed to accommodate a kitchen garden / potager with a large greenhouse providing an opportunity to develop a mixture of both productive and ornamental planting. As well as supplying fresh produce and cut flowers, the gardens also contain two greenhouses with a selection of houseplants providing seasonal displays within the main house. This is a private estate however the owners are keen to open the gardens to the public for NGS open days in the future.
The successful candidate will be required work alongside and manage an existing team of 3 other gardeners. The successful applicant must have relevant experience, expertise, and a strong work ethic. They must be self-motivated with the ability to work alone and manage a team. Pruning techniques, vegetable production, managing herbaceous borders and propagation skills are essential. Extensive use of garden machinery. PA1 & PA6 spraying certificates and CS30 chainsaw licence desirable.
This role would suit someone looking for a long-term position with a passion to create and maintain some very special private grounds. They will be generously supported throughout. The role comes with accomodation provided on site, with utilities and council tax included.
SALARY: Up to £30,000 DOE
