Assistant Gardener required

A rare opportunity has become available for a passionate gardener to be involved with the continuing development of one of Irelands finest private estates.

The 1000-acre property has many interesting features and a unique microclimate. Features include many historic elements with the need to restore many of the naturalistic and formal parklands and gardens, including meadows, woodlands, rides, extensive walled gardens, perennial planting, arboretum, formal hedging and lawns. The owner is looking to restore and develop the gardens to a very high standard and fine attention to detail.

Ideally candidates will ideally have a formal horticultural qualification and at least three years’ experience working within a large estate. The owners are looking for someone who is keen to progress and develop within the existing team and support the Head Gardener in the planning, development and ongoing maintenance of the estate and its formal gardens. This is an exciting opportunity to be involved with the ongoing and future projects. Applications are particularly welcome from candidates with a background or interest in historic gardens and planting design.

The successful applicant will assist the Head Gardener implementing the seasonal operations throughout the gardens, alongside an existing small team, of 2 full time, and seasonal part time staff. Ideally candidates will be invested in the long term development and improvement of the landscape. The gardens team are encouraged to work closely with the household staff and provide seasonal produce and cut flowers on a regular basis.

Applicants should have experience with the maintenance and use of a wide range of horticultural machinery. PA1 & PA6 spraying qualifications and chainsaw tickets would also be beneficial for this role. Most importantly the employer is looking for someone keen to develop within the team, with progression opportunities available for the right person. Accommodation is provided with this role, including council tax paid by the employer and other bills payable by the occupants.
