Our client is a well-established, family-run independent garden centre known for providing a high-quality retail and leisure experience. With a strong focus on horticulture, customer service, and community engagement, they are now seeking a Deputy Manager to work alongside the Centre Manager in overseeing daily operations and driving business success.
Job Description:
Retail Operations & Business Management
The Garden Centre Deputy Manager will support the Centre Manager in overseeing the retail environment, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations and maintaining an inviting and well-organised space for customers. They will help drive commercial performance by managing stock levels, merchandising, and maintaining store standards while ensuring compliance with company policies and health & safety regulations.
Team Leadership & Development
A key aspect of the role involves leading and motivating the team, ensuring a positive work environment that fosters collaboration and productivity. Responsibilities include staff training, performance management, and recruitment support, ensuring the team is equipped to deliver exceptional customer service and meet business objectives.
Customer Service & Experience
Delivering an outstanding customer experience is at the heart of the role. The Deputy Manager will be responsible for handling customer queries, resolving complaints efficiently, and continuously enhancing the customer journey to encourage repeat business. They will also assist in planning and executing promotional events, seasonal displays, and interactive customer experiences.
Financial Performance & Profit Management
The role involves monitoring key financial metrics such as sales trends, profit and loss, and cost control. The Deputy Manager will work with the Centre Manager to set and achieve sales targets, optimise margins, and ensure the centre remains commercially successful. Business Development & Community Engagement.
Key Skills & Qualifications
- Previous supervisory or management experience in a retail or garden centre environment is essential.
- Strong leadership and team management skills with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Experience in business planning, sales analysis, and financial performance tracking.
- Horticultural knowledge or qualifications are desirable.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask and solve problems effectively.
SALARY: Up to £40,000 DOE
