We are looking for a Nursery Foreman who will be responsible for overseeing and improving the day-to-day operations on the Nursery on a full-time permanent basis.

Main Responsibilities include:
  • Opening the Nursery in the morning and closing at the end of the business day.
  • Coordinating and managing the Nursery worker team.
  • Monitor watering and weather conditions paying special attention to hot or cold temperatures.
  • Respond to customer requests and assist the Nursery staff.
  • Inspect facilities and equipment for signs of disrepair and safety, perform necessary maintenance work.
  • Explain and enforce safety regulations/policies and be responsible for a safe working environment.
  • Coordinate and be responsible for all clerical and record-keeping.
  • Undertake plant/tree husbandry and welfare eg: pruning, weeding, watering etc.
  • Assist in the picking and packing of orders for dispatch or collection.
  • Manage pest, disease and weed control programmes.
  • Help with general maintenance of Nursery structures and systems.
  • Monitor plant health and quality.
  • Potting up/potting on by hand or machine of plants/trees.
  • Carry out good housekeeping practices eg: cleaning, sweeping and general tidiness.
  • Undertake any duties as determined by the Director or Nursery Manager.

 

Qualifications

Ideally, the successful candidate will have a professional horticultural qualification and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.

Experience in growing potted plants and nursery stock.

Full driving license required and ideally, PA1 and PA6 certified.

Job Description:

Key responsibilities will include:

  • The supervision, selection, development and performance management of the Arboricultural team
  • To implement safe systems of work always in line with Health and Safety legislation, ensuring that Risk Assessments and Method Statements are undertaken, and safe working environments are in place prior to the commencement of each new contract/job
  • To ensure that all tools and equipment are used, maintained and stored securely in a safe and responsible manner and checked weekly in line with Health and Safety requirements, reporting any damage immediately to the Operations Manager, taking responsibility to ensure that the repair/damage is actioned
  • To ensure staff load vehicles and prepare equipment necessary for undertaking works daily in line contract requirements
  • To ensure staff take responsibility for personal climbing equipment ensuring that LOLER check forms are completed and sent to the Operations Manager on a monthly basis
  • To ensure staff undertake daily checks on PPE ensuring that it is safe and complies with Health and Safety legislation reporting any damage to the Line Manager immediately and that monthly PPE check forms are completed and provided to the Line Manager
  • To ensure staff undertake and complete daily checks on all powered equipment to include vehicles, chippers, and chainsaws ensuring that they are safe and comply with Health and Safety legislation and that they are maintained in safe working order and that paperwork is provided monthly to the Line Manager
  • To check the First Aid box and personal First Aid kits monthly, ensuring that 6 monthly checks are undertaken and recorded formally. Ensure that First Aid Kits are always present on work sites, replenishing any used items
  • To take responsibility for ensuring that accidents, incidents and near misses are reported immediately to the office with the necessary paperwork completed as soon as possible
  • To visits clients to support with quoting for new work that has been sourced by the Business Development Manager
Key Skills:
  • Minimum of 4 years Arboriculture contract management experience – Essential
  • Level 3 Arboriculture qualification or above - Essential
  • IT literate, able to use Microsoft office & portal-based web systems - Essential

Sole Gardener - EC3800

A superb new vacancy has arisen for a Sole Gardener / Handyman to manage a beautiful 19acre private estate near Stamford in Northamptonshire alongside an existing part-time assistant. The estate includes a 2 acre walled garden with terracing that contains topiary, amenity lawns, shrubbery and herbaceous borders. Other areas include a lake, swimming pool and tennis court, driveways, paddocks, orchard and a large number of mature trees and further lawns.

Applications are sought from suitably experienced and passionate gardeners who have comprehensive knowledge of plants, trees, shrubs, and their care. A horticultural qualification would be desirable as would spray and chainsaw certificates. This is a very hands on role for somebody to work with minimal supervision who is able to plan and prioritise work schedules throughout the year and advise the owners on the future development of the garden and grounds.  Other duties will include some handyman tasks and estate duties as required. 

The owners are looking to develop the garden further such as growing fresh produce, create a lawn care regime and continue planting up and developing areas of the grounds to a level where it could become a show garden.

The Sole Gardener will have assistance from a part-time assistant who will help in mowing the lawns and will help to look after the topiary. There will also be contractors for other works.

A full clean UK driving licence is required as the owners have a 4wd drive single cab Toyota Hilux the gardener will use as part of his work.
