Line management responsibility: assistant or part-time gardeners, contractors.Budget responsibility: day-to-day expenses, petty cash purchases and similar.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent, RHS Level 1, 2 or 3, HND, OND, City & Guilds.
  • At least three years relevant experience in horticulture together with 1 year’s proven supervisory experience, together with comprehensive plant knowledge.
  • Clear understanding of the relevant Health and Safety legislation, formal training in manual handling and risk assessment, a valid driving licence.

A sole gardener is sought for an exciting role on this newly developing project in Cheshire. The site consists of approximately four acres of gardens surrounding the main house, and includes parterres, pools, terraces, wisteria walks, greenhouse/kitchen gardens, and herbaceous borders. The wider grounds include mixed native and specimen woods, wildflower meadows and the historic ‘Ladies Walk’ with pools and waterfalls.

Duties will include care of the gardens; ensuring the gardens and grounds are presented to a high standard at all times. Working with the designer to continue developing the gardens and grounds. Propagation. Control of pests, diseases and plant health. Maintenance and mowing of lawns. Keeping pathways and driveways weed free. Care and basic maintenance of garden machinery and tools, As Sole Gardener, there will occasionally be a requirement for additional duties to be carried out, which will include ad hoc caretaking and house plant care.

Applicants should ideally have 3 years’ experience in horticulture, a minimum level 2 RHS qualification, PA1 and PA6 spraying certificates and a full driving license. Chainsaw certification would be advantageous but not essential. However, we are open to hearing from all levels of experience; and would welcome a candidate with less than 3 years’ experience, should you be willing to learn and grow with the role. The role requires a self-motivated individual happy to work alone. An enhanced DBS will be required. A 40-hour week is offered on a permanent basis, with a generous salary for the ideal candidate.

Most importantly, we are looking for someone of a cheerful and positive disposition, with a ‘can and will do’ attitude, to work with this young family. The role is ideally suited to someone who is looking for a permanent and long-term post.

Nursery Manager

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Your main role will be to manage the delivery of the day to day nursery work programme and co-ordinate the nursery worker team. The work follows a seasonal growing year with key periods of activity, which will require you to:

· Oversee and lead on the day to day management of the nursery.

· Co-ordinate and manage nursery worker team including daily work sheets, nursery worker tasks/jobs and project planning.

· Maintain and manage nursery stock levels at agreed levels including forward planning all replacement stock, ordering sundries and planning replacements

· Responsibility and delegated budget spend for most nursery business purchases.

· Lead on managing the website orders, trade accounts and contract grow orders with responsibility to manage all sales from internet, email and telephone.

· Responsibility for managing all delegated nursery resources.

· Liaise with all clients and customers when required

· Manage and maintain CWF website and internet stock items

· Lead with CWF publicity including website, undertaking shows, marketing and general awareness of the business.

· Assist with all nursery work including pricking out, pruning, seeding and other growing techniques and give advice where necessary

· Lead on the development of new growing techniques and undertaking new propagation methods

· Manage and organise the maintenance of nursery infrastructure including polytunnels, greenhouse, potting shed and pump house

· Financial reporting to the Director.

· Delegated budget spend responsibilities (including purchasing stock, supplies and sundries)

Implement all staff and nursery H&S procedures including review process

Qualifications

Ideally the successful candidate will have a professional horticultural qualification, and a minimum of 2 years relevant experience, however if no formal qualification they will need more than the minimum 2 years experience and be able to demonstrate experience of plant growing and management of different plant species)

PA1 and PA6 would be desirable

A Manor House located close to the picturesque village of Cartmel is looking for a dedicated and creative Gardener to help develop and manage their formal gardens. Situated in five acres of land, the Manor has recently been converted into a five-star hotel and extensive work has started on upgrading the existing gardens. A more formal garden is now being developed and as such the successful candidate will be experienced in looking after and improving a similar project.

You will be responsible for developing the grounds and gardens surrounding Cark Manor, in terms of introducing new planting schemes and ensuring that the grounds are always maintained to the highest standard.

Main Duties

-Work within agreed budgets and plans

-Develop and recreate the formal gardens in keeping with the style, period, and history of Cark Manor

-Put forward ideas in terms of planting options to add to and enhance projects

-Install and maintain seasonal plants

-Mow, trim and fertilise green spaces

-Mulch, edge and weed gardens

-Prune and trim trees and bushes

-Maintain all gardening equipment and machinery such as mowers, trimmers and leaf blowers

-Monitor and maintain the health of plants

-Deal with pest problems that could damage plants

-Keep gardens and green spaces clear of debris and litter

Occasional Duties

-Work additional hours to meet the needs of the business

-Travel to other sites, as needed

-Carry out any other duties as are within the scope and purpose of the job as requested by the GC, HM, or FM
