An outstanding opportunity exists for a Plantarea Assistant Manager to join a large Garden Centre in the South West which are family owned. Their expert team are always ready to provide good advice in all areas of the garden centre with much passion and pride, which has resulted in an increase in business. You will find a vast range of quality stock from hardy nursery stock, bedding plants, herbaceous plants, trees and shrubs with a superb range of quality hanging baskets and containers throughout the year.  As Plantarea Manager you will play a vital role in delivering excellent visual merchandising standards and customer care in line with the business needs.

Job Brief

As a Plantarea Assistant Manager, you will deliver an exceptional service to customers and maximise plant sales. In this fast-moving role, you will focus on all areas of plant sales.  The successful candidate will need to be able to,

-Develop, motivate and lead your team and monitor their performance 

-Take ownership of the commercial aspects of your department 

-Advise customers on which plants will best meet their needs  

-Ensure that products are beautifully presented 

-Work with your team to make sure we continue to deliver an unrivalled plant offering 

Key Skills

As the Plantarea Assistant Manager, you’ll need have the following experience;

-Experience of working in a garden centre or garden department within a retail store 

-Experience of buying for a plant area 

-A passion for, and strong understanding of, horticulture  

-Experience of managing retail staff 

Due to our location of the centre, a driving licence and access to your own vehicle would be beneficial. A qualification in a horticultural subject would also be an advantage.  If you are willing to relocate, a relocation package is available. If you have experience in any of the following areas we would like to hear from you.

Our client is a leading Grounds Maintenance Company, which carries out work for commercial clients throughout the UK. They currently require a Contracts Manager to take responsibility of their grounds maintenance operation within the Bristol region.

Job Description:

You will be expected to generally operate from home, managing the day-to-day running of the service function within your district, supervising the work of 10 mobile and static site maintenance teams carrying out regular grounds maintenance on commercial sites throughout their region. Each team is equipped with their own van and equipment. The prime role is to ensure that service delivery to the client is to the highest standards and to ensure that financial targets are achieved through the proactive and safe management of staff and resources.

Your duties will include:

  • Regular site visits and meetings
  • Control, motivate, and discipline members of your team
  • Recruitment, training and development of team members
  • Ensuring work is completed to required KPI’s and quality standards
  • Full budgetary accountability for wages, consumables, hand tools and work wear etc
  • Planning work schedules
  • Responsible for the maintenance and safe use of company vehicles, equipment etc
  • Health and safety issues in line with Company H&S manual
  • Working with customer service department
  • Assessment of new sites
Must haves:

Applications are invited from existing Contract Managers who have worked within a similar environment and have good commercial and operational experience. It is important that you have excellent communication skills coupled with strong leadership qualities able to plan and delegate work effectively making the most economic use of resources. A horticultural qualification and formal Health and Safety training such as IOSH or SMSTS are highly desirable.
