Sole Gardener - Live In- EC3993 This position has been filled

A rare opportunity has arisen for a live-in Sole Gardener to undertake the management of a delightful large private garden on a 900-acre estate in North Aberdeenshire.  The position would suit a knowledgeable and qualified horticulturist with experience of managing private estate gardens autonomously.

The garden consists of a burn, planted with wetland plants, azaleas and rhododendrons with natural woodland ponds nearby.  An Indian garden patterned on ancient Persian pleasure parks provides a unique feature, and leads to a formal walled garden, with small farm outbuildings forming a backdrop. The 0.8-acre walled garden comprises lawn, a small area for growing produce, planted borders with an array of perennials, shrubs, roses, fruit trees, and a glasshouse containing peach, nectarine and figs.

Applicants for the role will need to have good plant knowledge and ideally a horticultural qualification at Level 2 or higher, experience of pruning fruit trees, shrubs, roses, taking cuttings/propagation and a wide range of other garden management skills.  Chainsaw certificates are not essential but spray certificates (PA1/PA6) will be required. Applicants must have excellent time management skills and be able to work autonomously and with good attention to detail at all times.

The owner notes that you will be working with a small and friendly estate team and must therefore be willing to work alongside the Gamekeeper/Handyman to assist with estate duties such as clearing fallen branches after storms, making bonfires etc. When required.

The property owner will look after the glasshouse when possible, but weekend duties will be required on occasion for this purpose as well as for watering in the summer months, if necessary.

Accommodation is provided by way of a 3-bedroom cottage with oil fired heating, back boiler, and its own garden within short walking distance of the main house.  Pets and children are welcome. The successful applicants will be provided with a holiday allowance of 25 days plus 3-days bank holiday.
